Medicare Supplement Plan F | What Happened in 2020?
Hello my name is Mary and I wanted to know if I should also sign up for champ VA with my Medicare as a Wife of a 100% disabled Veteran?
How do you submit the proof of credible coverage?
With an advantage plan, don't you also have either copays or coinsurance?
Not when It is paired with Tricare. Tricare sits in the background and acts as a secondary to the advantage plan.
If you are derated from 100 percent total and permanent disability because of a miraculous cure, what happens to champva?
I have Medicare A&B with Tri Care for Life. My question is do I need to buy a Health Insurance policy also?
You can stay the way you have it now. That is the traditional way to be insured. However, there are plans that would take the place of A&B and give you money back in your social security to reduce the Medicare Part B premium of $174/ month.
Home care option plan Amount $50+ per month Good health=qualifications.
The best explanation I have scene
@20Schmidt How long does the SSA retirement benefits application process normally take? (application submission confirmation to receiving award letter). Has been a 6-month wait for myself (application received confirmation on March 20, 2024) so far. My application has been reviewed and they said I have the 40+ work credits to receive benefits. Waiting for the award letter. Have read it usually takes 3-5 months. Can anyone who's been through the process tell me how long it took? Getting concerned (thought i'd have received my letter in August...realistic timeframe). Thank You for any input.
This typically takes 3 months for most folks. I recommend calling SSA and inquiring again and mentioning that its been this long for an approval.
@@medicarejoe Really appreciate you taking the time to reply...giving me a usual timeframe. Was trying to avoid it (long waits on phone/long lines at office in person), but it's beyond time to check on things. Thanks again
You are awesome its knowledgeable
Thank you!
Thankyou for your help in explaining it to me. I had already decided on just going with medicare and my wifes champ va. This decision was made when my wifes physical therapist company is owned by Humana but if my wife had Humana instead of champ va the company would not have treated my wife. Thats pretty bad when the therapist not reccommend their own company Humana. So if my wife went with some plan just for the dental and vision then she might be giving up her choice in doctors for her care.
Thanks for the reply... Humana is only 1 carrier... there are several with different networks. I recommend checking because there could be one that is better. The idea of dental and vision is great, but the true value is the part B giveback they can provide to folks. Completely understand the logic for your decision.
What if I have FEHB and Tricare and I am currently 64. What is the best strategy for when I am eligible for Medicare?
We are seeing more and more people test out the Advantage plans with a giveback. Then if for some reason you don't like it you can go back to Original Medicare. You can set up a call here: www.medicarejoe.org/bookyourcall
For more information or to schedule a call : medicarejoe.org ✅Verified
Upon receiving Champva, can we cancel our secondary insurance “Aetna” ?
You might want to consult with an insurance agent first
Is Part D through Medicare? I have to sign up for Part A and B now that I’ve turned 65 even though I have health insurance from my domestic partner’s company because SSA doesn’t recognize domestic partnership. For Part D purposes would my partner’s health policy which I am covered under be considered “credible coverage “ so that I wouldn’t have to sign up for Part D with no penalty imposed since I have drug coverage from my partner’s health plan?
This would be better to discuss over a phone call. If the employer based plan is creditable you may be able to delay A and B as well.
9:00, although on the screen it mentions "Over-the-Counter Monthly Credit" but you made absolutely no mention or expanded the explanation on what this is about in the video. Please elaborate.
This is a fine overview which shows why it is worth the while of some veterans with Tricare for Life to enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan. Please correct me if I'm wrong. You state several times that if a Tricare for Life beneficiary opts for a Medicare Advantage Plan that he has to make sure that his doc participates in that Medicare Advantage Plans. I've been doing my research as I am planning to enroll in a MA plan during open enrollment in October. I am led to believe that even though there may be greater "out of pocket expenses UP FRONT when you choose a doctor outside of the plan, that all one needs to do is file a claim with Tricare (online or through regular mail), and they will reimburse you completely, so long as it's a covered service for Medicare. So in essence, their "out of pocket maximums" for both in-network and out of network are truly irrelevant. Am I missing something here? Thanks, in advance. (For full disclosure, I got to about 5 or 6 different doctors over the course of the year. Of all my my physicians, only one is not in the Aetna Network). So my paperwork to submit claims to Tricare for Life should be minimal and I should be 100% reimbursed which is pretty much what I have with regular Medicare (parts A and B) and Tricare for Life. The major reason for me to enroll in Medicare Advantage (along with my wife) is for all the extra "perks" - like gym memberships, lowered Medicare Part B costs, Dental, hearing, OTC Meds, Vision, and even reimbursements for golf, massage or exercise equipment! I honestly don't see the downside even if one of my docs, who I see quarterly, does not participate in my Medicare Advantage plan. I estimate that the out of pocket savings for things that I would normally need, like gym membership, OTC items, dental, hearing and more will save the two of us at least $5,000-$6,000 annually - nothing to sneeze at! Any thoughts?
$164.90 plus taxes taken out, doesn't leave you with much.
This is why many folks go with the Part B Giveback options available to ChampVA and Tricare recipients.
Thank you
You're welcome
Does Tricare for Life provide dental coverage?
Typically the Medicare Advantage plans would offer the dental benefit that goes with Tricare for Life.
I am penalize for being late. When President Trump comes back I will write to him on this ridiculous charges. I have to pay $25 a month.
Great video! Question: can someone get medicare and 51 years old with champva ...?
Medicare is available to folks that are 65 or under 65 but on disability through social security for 2+ years
@@medicarejoe What if no disability through social security... ? can under age 65 get medicare ?
Joe ! I am an 86 year old veteran . App 10 years ago with the advent of the Choice Program and currently Community Care program I opted out of Medicare part b and currently saving me 2100 in annual premiums . During the past 10 years 100 percent of my medical is covered by the Va . In the past 6 years all my medical care albeit hospitals ,clinics , physicians and testing has been handled by non VA hospitals or physicians et al . The VA has always approved of said treatment and as a result no cost to me . Additionally all my scripts, vision and hearing tests and needs are paid by the VA . The only area not covered is preventive dental and about 5-10 percent of my scripts ! I have never had a problem regardless of the states involved . My dental out of pocket is about 500 annually and my scripts total app 300 annually . Check it out as any Veteran who is eligible for Community Care ( more than 40 or 60 miles from a VA facility) should be eligible . Tom

Raised 3 kids on champva, over a 20 year span, in 4 different states only 1 doctor accepted champva. It is completely useless.
The special plans that offer the Part B premium reduction are becoming more popular every year.
Law requires any coaching Medicare assignment original part an and b must take Champva.
lol if your dr accepts Medicare they accept champs by law. You are so miss informed
Why can’t you respond to the comments any provider accepting Medicare Original parts an and b must accept ChampVA too? RU lying?
@@2023Red that’s federal law , you obviously don’t have champ va
Should I drop supplemental plan f since I have champ Va? I see no reason for both. Am I missing something something? Thank you!
They are ultimately acting in the same capacity as your secondary insurance. There is a special plan for folks like yourself that can help lower the Medicare Part B premium. It never hurts to test It out because you can always switch back at anytime. Give us a call 888-676-3633 and we can see if we can help you out!
Okay so my situation is that my wife was on champva but when she turned 65 champva dropped her because social security office said she wasn’t eligible for Medicare or social security benefits so she applied under my social security benefits and was denied because the social security office told her they didn’t have our marriage certificate on file so I am wanting to know that once she gets the social security benefits and Medicare benefits will she be able to get back into the champva
The champva eligibility is a better question for them. They handle you can qualify for that program and who cannot. If she had It before I don’t see any reason why she can’t while she turns 65 though.
Yes but only with Medicare original parts an and b.
I believe you have to have Part B for Tricare for Life to pay as a Secondary
Yes you have to enroll in Part B, but as I explain in the video there are special plans that get you that Part B money back.
Awesome job, MC Joe! 🇺🇲 💯 🇺🇲
Thank you!
Should I drop Blue Cross and Blue shield, since I have VA , Tricare?
All depends on what’s being covered by which, but It sounds like you may have too much overlapping coverages. Give us a call and we can take a look- 888-676-3633
I just applied CHAMPVA for my dependent wife who is retiring this month. I was told the application for champva could take 6 to 9 months. what Medicare insurance should she get to cover all her Health Care needs for the mean time? where is she going to get her Medicine? if she's not allowed to sign up for part D? Anybody out there who can enlighten me?
Yes there are ways to cover her now and for when she gets onto Champva. Ultimately I cannot make a recommendation without understanding more about health, etc. If you give us a call our agents can give you an unbiased opinion at no cost to you! 888-676-3633
Champva took us 3 months to get the card. Medicare original parts an and b required. Drugs can be authorized after getting the card for Champva. Mail order only.

I have Champva, but my husband is a disabled vet and gets care thru TriWest for out of area care. How does that work with Medicare?
What would help is number examples, like : individual goes to er via ambulance, gets admitted, has 6 day stay with surgery, then outpatient services etc…. What are the costs per each. I don’t actually have an example but these kinds of examples from other channels help me understand OM, Sup G, & Adv. but what about TFL?
There aren't many numbers to give you. Someone who has Medicare/ MAPD with Tricare typically will not have any out of pocket costs so long as it is approved by Medicare or the Medicare Advantage plan & Tricare.
In what scenario would you ever advise a veteran with original medicare + tricare for life to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan?
As discussed in the video, there are pros and cons to each option. The scenario where it makes sense is if someone is looking to reduce the Part B Premium payment every month with the giveback option that some plans have. Its not a 1 size fits all option, that's why it is important to understand the pros and cons of both ways it can work.
Champ va is for ones family...not the vetran. So what are you talking about
This is a generic video for ChampVA, VA and Tricare for Life. The examples in the video apply to all 3 qualifications when determining Medicare Benefits.
Excellent explanation that I couldn't get answered elsewhere. But I have one additional question----what if my generic drugs are zero copay and the plan pays zero. That amount will go toward donut hole----I feel there is an unknown cost that i can't determine.
Thank you for a great presentation.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the excellent video. I'm retired Air Force on Tricare and will be turning 65 next year--2025. I'm still working and making a good income. I thought the Medicare Part B cost was based on your income? Is that correct, or is the $170 or so a flat rate for everyone regardless of income? Thanks.
Yes, Part B is based on your income. Here is the video on that- ruclips.net/video/ob_Ngd9LKTg/видео.html. However, if you want your Tricare to turn into Tricare for Life you need to start A & B at 65. The other option you may have is to get insurance through your work and delay Medicare until you retire.
The income adjustment is in addition to the base rate for Part B and is based on your Tax return's AGI from two years prior. For example, if your AGI was about $200,000, they would add approx $70 per month.
I am 100% disabled veteran and I use the VA for all my medical needs. I have tricare too so that my wife is covered. Do I need part B or should we wait til my wife is 65 and get part B from her SS?
Great Question! So it would depend on if you ever wanted to use medical services outside the VA. If yes, then you're going to want to start your Part B at 65 or you will be penalized for life if not. Your situation sounds a little more unique, feel free to give us a call at 888-676-3633.
Thank you for posting this on RUclips. Via projector I can see the slides in a much larger format.
Glad it was helpful!
I would never use Medicare Advantage because you will have to pay all deductibles and co-pays yourself and then submit the bill to Tricare for reimbursement which would be a royal pain in the neck. Also your choice of Doctors is limited to those in the Medicare Advantage plan. Personally I would NEVER recommend using Medicare Advantage with Tricare For Life.
There are pros and cons to each side. However, if you prefer the convenience of not submitting for reimbursement from time to time over the savings on the Part B premium, then Original Medicare could be a great option. The purpose of this video is to outline the Pros and Cons of each so folks can see what might be best for their situation.
If you need a person, you can trust and give you the best information and guidance for medicare assensce, Joe Pate is your person.
Thank you for the review!
Well laid out presentation. Invaluable, frankly. I'll be calling.
Great! Happy you enjoyed It. Let us know if you have any questions.
Good info. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
One thing you have to consider with an advantage plan is that most, if not all, will only cover you in the state for which you live in. I live in one state close to the border of another state where medical facilities are located. The area where I live is rural, and medical facilities are very limited unless I want to drive long distances to reach them. That is why i kept my traditional Medicare plan along with TFL. Also, when I was learning about Medicare and Tricare for Life, I was told in no uncertain terms that if I chose to not get Medicare part B, I would not be eligible for TFL, and I would not be able to get it later, even if I signed up for part B later. Has that changed?
In order for Tricare to turn into Tricare for Life you have to start A and B. From there, you can either stay on Original Medicare or shift to Medicare Advantage. In your case, you would want to utilized a Medicare Advantage PPO plan so you can have coverage outside of your service area. Let us know if you have any additional questions!
