      You can stay the way you have it now. That is the traditional way to be insured. However, there are plans that would take the place of A&B and give you money back in your social security to reduce the Medicare Part B premium of $174/ month.

    @20Schmidt How long does the SSA retirement benefits application process normally take? (application submission confirmation to receiving award letter). Has been a 6-month wait for myself (application received confirmation on March 20, 2024) so far. My application has been reviewed and they said I have the 40+ work credits to receive benefits. Waiting for the award letter. Have read it usually takes 3-5 months. Can anyone who's been through the process tell me how long it took? Getting concerned (thought i'd have received my letter in August...realistic timeframe). Thank You for any input.

    Thankyou for your help in explaining it to me. I had already decided on just going with medicare and my wifes champ va. This decision was made when my wifes physical therapist company is owned by Humana but if my wife had Humana instead of champ va the company would not have treated my wife. Thats pretty bad when the therapist not reccommend their own company Humana. So if my wife went with some plan just for the dental and vision then she might be giving up her choice in doctors for her care.

    • @medicarejoe
      @medicarejoe 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the reply... Humana is only 1 carrier... there are several with different networks. I recommend checking because there could be one that is better. Is Part D through Medicare? I have to sign up for Part A and B now that I’ve turned 65 even though I have health insurance from my domestic partner’s company because SSA doesn’t recognize domestic partnership. For Part D purposes would my partner’s health policy which I am covered under be considered “credible coverage “ so that I wouldn’t have to sign up for Part D with no penalty imposed since I have drug coverage from my partner’s health plan?

    This is a fine overview which shows why it is worth the while of some veterans with Tricare for Life to enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan. Please correct me if I'm wrong. You state several times that if a Tricare for Life beneficiary opts for a Medicare Advantage Plan that he has to make sure that his doc participates in that Medicare Advantage Plans. I've been doing my research as I am planning to enroll in a MA plan during open enrollment in October. I am led to believe that even though there may be greater "out of pocket expenses UP FRONT when you choose a doctor outside of the plan, that all one needs to do is file a claim with Tricare (online or through regular mail), and they will reimburse you completely, so long as it's a covered service for Medicare. So in essence, their "out of pocket maximums" for both in-network and out of network are truly irrelevant. Am I missing something here? Thanks, in advance. (For full disclosure, I got to about 5 or 6 different doctors over the course of the year. Of all my my physicians, only one is not in the Aetna Network). So my paperwork to submit claims to Tricare for Life should be minimal and I should be 100% reimbursed which is pretty much what I have with regular Medicare (parts A and B) and Tricare for Life. The major reason for me to enroll in Medicare Advantage (along with my wife) is for all the extra "perks" - like gym memberships, lowered Medicare Part B costs, Dental, hearing, OTC Meds, Vision, and even reimbursements for golf, massage or exercise equipment! I honestly don't see the downside even if one of my docs, who I see quarterly, does not participate in my Medicare Advantage plan. I estimate that the out of pocket savings for things that I would normally need, like gym membership, OTC items, dental, hearing and more will save the two of us at least $5,000-$6,000 annually - nothing to sneeze at! Any thoughts?

    Joe ! I am an 86 year old veteran . App 10 years ago with the advent of the Choice Program and currently Community Care program I opted out of Medicare part b and currently saving me 2100 in annual premiums . During the past 10 years 100 percent of my medical is covered by the Va . In the past 6 years all my medical care albeit hospitals ,clinics , physicians and testing has been handled by non VA hospitals or physicians et al . The VA has always approved of said treatment and as a result no cost to me . Additionally all my scripts, vision and hearing tests and needs are paid by the VA . The only area not covered is preventive dental and about 5-10 percent of my scripts ! I have never had a problem regardless of the states involved . My dental out of pocket is about 500 annually and my scripts total app 300 annually . Check it out as any Veteran who is eligible for Community Care ( more than 40 or 60 miles from a VA facility) should be eligible . Tom

    Thanks for the excellent video. I'm retired Air Force on Tricare and will be turning 65 next year--2025. I'm still working and making a good income. I thought the Medicare Part B cost was based on your income? Is that correct, or is the $170 or so a flat rate for everyone regardless of income? Thanks.

    • @medicarejoe
      @medicarejoe 10 месяцев назад

      Yes, Part B is based on your income. Here is the video on that- ruclips.net/video/ob_Ngd9LKTg/видео.html. However, if you want your Tricare to turn into Tricare for Life you need to start A & B at 65. The other option you may have is to get insurance through your work and delay Medicare until you retire.

    • @jonfortner3167
      @jonfortner3167 14 дней назад

      The income adjustment is in addition to the base rate for Part B and is based on your Tax return's AGI from two years prior. For example, if your AGI was about $200,000, they would add approx $70 per month.

    I would never use Medicare Advantage because you will have to pay all deductibles and co-pays yourself and then submit the bill to Tricare for reimbursement which would be a royal pain in the neck. Also your choice of Doctors is limited to those in the Medicare Advantage plan. Personally I would NEVER recommend using Medicare Advantage with Tricare For Life.

      There are pros and cons to each side. However, if you prefer the convenience of not submitting for reimbursement from time to time over the savings on the Part B premium, then Original Medicare could be a great option. The purpose of this video is to outline the Pros and Cons of each so folks can see what might be best for their situation.

    One thing you have to consider with an advantage plan is that most, if not all, will only cover you in the state for which you live in. I live in one state close to the border of another state where medical facilities are located. The area where I live is rural, and medical facilities are very limited unless I want to drive long distances to reach them. That is why i kept my traditional Medicare plan along with TFL. Also, when I was learning about Medicare and Tricare for Life, I was told in no uncertain terms that if I chose to not get Medicare part B, I would not be eligible for TFL, and I would not be able to get it later, even if I signed up for part B later. Has that changed?

      In order for Tricare to turn into Tricare for Life you have to start A and B. From there, you can either stay on Original Medicare or shift to Medicare Advantage. In your case, you would want to utilized a Medicare Advantage PPO plan so you can have coverage outside of your service area. Let us know if you have any additional questions!
