- Hawaiian Trip Report flying from San Francisco to Honolulu onboard one of the Hawaiian Airbus A330 on a lovely winter morning.
A comfortable flight from San Francisco to Honolulu (Hawaii) onboard the Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A330-200. This was my first time flying with Hawaiian Airlines and I must say that, in many aspects, they are well ahead of the main US airlines.
We arrived quite early at San Francisco airport. Hawaiian Airlines operates from the International Terminal. At this time of the day, there are absolutely no flights from this terminal. That's the reason why all the check-in and security control was so comfortable. The terminal was completely empty and, of course, there were no queues at all anywhere.
We took off from San Francisco towards the north. After an initial climb over the San Francisco bay, we made a left turn over the city and that allowed us to have some perfect views of the most iconic landmark of San Francisco: the Golden Gate bridge. It was amazing to see it for the first time from the sky. We then continued flying towards the west, to start flying over the Pacific Ocean for the next 5 hours.
After many clouds and a lot of sea water views, we finally spotted Hawaii. We made the approach to the south of the island, so we had some very nice views of the island and the city of Honolulu. The approach over the light blue water was really amazing. We touched down in Honolulu on time.
Let's talk about the onboard service. This is one of the aspects in which Hawaiian is clearly above the main US airlines. The crew first passed with a snack for-purchase service, from which I took a small cheese tray. Then they passed with a complementary warm sandwich and drinks service. It was some kind of Turkey burger with cheese and eggs. It was quite good, to be honest. I really appreciate any warm food on a flight.
All in all, a very nice first experience with Hawaiian Airlines. I wish the other airlines in the US would have the same onboard service and the same motivated crew as Hawaiian. And that's another point that I would like to highlight: the crew was really amazing, engaging with the passengers all time. They really looked like they were enjoying what they were doing. Well done Hawaiian! Looking forward to flying again in one of your planes!
Now it's your turn!
Have you ever flown with Hawaiian? How was the experience? Which model did you fly? Have you ever flown on the Airbus A330? Have you ever been in San Francisco? Maybe in Honolulu? What do you think about the service on a 5h+ flight?
Lots of things to talk about! Read you all in the comments!

The next flight will be a Hawaiian inter-islands flight?
I like videos which include cabin noise, it makes for more authentic experience.

🇺🇲❤️🤗😁😀👍🛬🛫✈️🌏🌎🌍🌐🗺️🧑✈️💺🧳 love Hawaiian airlines that's very nice lovely Aloha. I like Hawaiian Punch beverage. Nice airplane A330-200 13 years.
It's the only airline I fly to Maui on!. Live the service and yhe bigger plane. Makes for such a more comfortable flight than a cramped 737
Galleta de avena y pasas !! Lindo vídeo desde California usa 🇺🇸
Nice trip report for a 13 years old airplane A330-200 I like the Hawaiian livery it's lovely.
Great trip report! I lived in Captain Cook on the Big Island from 1972-1978.
CHEEEHOOOO! can't wait!!! looking forward to my birthday weekend
The bluest ocean ever filmed by a vlogger... ❤️
Very nice indeed!
Thanks for the lovely video, Hawaiian is a beautiful airline, but here in Africa for such a distance you will get a descent hot meal tray, I learnt airlines in the states don't spoil their customers like that
The US's domestic market is very large, and very, very competitive. Americans tend to run to the lowest fare rather than the best service. Our airlines have tried giving more and better service as the norm and part of the general package of the flying experience, and the public aren't willing to pay for them. So....that's why our domestic flying is the way it is. It's significantly better on international flights.
I flew Hawaiian about 15 years ago from Sydney to Honolulu I remember enjoying the food but also the most turbulent flight of my life. But there were 4 of us lads in a row and I remember the unlimited beer they gave us. So fun. Oh the good old days!!
Welcome back Sir .. MashaAllah absolutely loved the beautiful scenery take off and the filming captured looks spectacular gorgeous and you nailed it again, appreciate your hard work and effort for sharing such an amazing trip report, enjoy your trip and looking forward for more adventures from your vloggs, take care safe trip and have a wonderful blessing weekend to you Sir .. ✈️❤️
Nicely done 👍
That was one of the softest landing I have seen
The best aviation channel! I just love ❤
Hello there. Another excellent trip report. Thanks for the information regarding the A330-200 as my spouse and I will be flying an Air Transat A330-200 in Club Class to Zagreb, Croatia from Pearson Toronto this fall. Will ensure that all my electronics are fully charged before boarding. The Hawaiian Airlines livery looks nice (all that is missing is the picture of the Lei). Surprised how quiet and empty the terminal building was. That is the best as it makes it easier to navigate around. I guess the small snack was good enough considering the $200 USD fare from SFO to Honolulu. Keep up the excellent work!
As always yet another awesome 10/10 flight report there dude👍
super super job 👏
Congratulations for your most western trip ever ! The channel has evolved a long way ! Enhorabuenas
This airport looks amazing 😻 Great video 🤝❤️
Amazing trip report! Hawaii is my favourite place out there, my first flight to Hawaii was on one of Hawaiian’s old 767s, they have unfortunately been retired now.
as always, a wonderful video! it has been almost 20 years since I have flown on Hawaiian...also to Honolulu... service was similar...lol Thank you!
Great video. I love Hawaiian Airlines.
Los felicito, Buen vuelo
really enjoy your videos like everyone else. having been to both Hawaii and Tenerife. Amanda and i chose Tenerife every year. even though it would be easier to get to and from Hawaii there something about Tenerife that makes it better.
Molto bello!
Butter landing
a nice one :D
Beautiful video ❤
You know when you step onboard a Hawaiian airlines flight you’re going to paradise unless you’re on you’re way home ha
Wow hawaian que guay ! 😍
Fue genial ir or 1a vez a Hawaii ✈️
Qué pena no haber pillado Alcatraz jiji. Feliz viaje 😀
I call that the happy flight. When you have to leave Hawaii and fly back to the mainland, I call that the sad flight. Hawaiian has a pretty good reputation, but they are going to have to really perform well because Southwest is bringing some low fares from the mainland to Hawaii and is going to take some of Hawaiian's market. But I think the competition in the end will be a good thing for passengers.
Competition is always a good thing. Many of us who live in Hawaii appreciate that the competition allows for lower fares. HA has been charging us crazy high fares for interisland flights for years, so WN's entrance into the interisland market, is a huge breath of fresh air!
And it's all perception, because for me the opposite is true...going to the mainland is the "happy flight", although coming back home is always nice too.
Southwest may be the perfect airline for those inter Island hops. They are built for short, quick flights at a low fare.
Helpful video! I’m going in 13 days SFO to OAHU/HONOLULU. Thanks! ❤
Enjoy your trip! It will be amazing :)
beautiful views of SF !! 🙂
Thanks :)
Thanks :)
Lovely
Thanks :)
Thanks :)
Hawaiian seem like a great airline. Thanks for a wonderful trip report. Have you tried their international routes?
i flew on their DC-10 back in the day
Saludos!!
Congratulations. When I subscribed, you were mainly around Europe. Certainly have spread your wings( excuse the pun). After watching all your videos I feel I know you but unfortunately not your name. Stay safe my friend. Mick.🇬🇧

The next flight will be a Hawaiian inter-islands flight?
I have flown Hawaiian from PHX-HNL-PHX on a 767-300ER.
You are part of history. Probably no 767 aircraft left but they just took delivery of their first 787. More on order. And, with their pending merger with Alaska Airlines, who knows what the future will bring. Alaska and Hawaiian will, apparently, remain as independent operators under the overall Alaska management umbrella. For Airbus faciers such as yourself, they are also bringing in some A321s.
Will you be getting onboard a Tui 767 this year before they retire in October?
Cup of Romain noodles for 4 dollars!?! Wow they're like twenty or thirty cents at Walmart lol
So, try flying with Walmart and see how it is.
Boy airlines sure know how to stuff people into the planes. Wow only $200.00? Never knew you had to fill out a self deliration to enter the islands?? What a great landing.
It is simply an agricultural form to help protect the ecosystem and keep folks from importing dangerous plants or animals. Hawaii, for example has no snakes and does not want any. Hawaii is the 50th state of the USA. No customs or immigration forms.
I like your content more and more, I don't miss one. Is there any forecast for making a Trip Report for South America? Brazil/Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro; Chile/Santiago; Argentina/Buenos Aires; etc...!
(Via Google Translate)
Suggested route: to Johannesburg on SAA
What are the reasons for your travels? Job or private? It's so interesting to follow you. Great job my friend☺
That's smth I keep for me.
Glad you enjoy these videos :))
I’ve been on Hawaiian a dozen+ times, from JFK (where they served TWO full meals) and inter island. Probably the best domestic airline, even in economy. By coincidence, one of my older buddies is an A-330 captain and, after trying to coordinate our schedules many times, we finally hit pay dirt and he flew us (me and my adult children) back to JFK on HA50 (someone at their scheduling department has a sense of humor!).
BTW, runway 04R is very rarely used for anything but inter island flights. But right now, the usual landing runway 08L is being completely repaved. Runway 08R, the “reef” runway, is most often used for takeoffs. From 08R, there is always an immediate right turn. I’ve read all kinds of reasons, so I asked my friend. He said it’s strictly noise abatement to avoid Waikiki and downtown Honolulu.
Thanks for all the info! ✈️
Seeing that just about all of Hawaiian's domestic flights (minus inter-island) are 5+ hours long, I would hope that they provide more substantial service. So that may be the reason they *appear* to be a step above other domestic airlines.
But really, they aren't. I'm saying this as someone who has taken Hawaiian on countless trips, and I live here in the islands. Delta is better on most metrics, if I'm being honest. Delta serves only snacks from flights 5 hours or less, but anything above that, and they become almost like another airline. For example, ATL-HNL has 2 food runs, one a complete hot meal, and the second one a substantial sandwich. They provide a simple amenity kit with eye shades and ear plugs, free head phones, and a blanket (no pillows though, which are only for international flights). And the galley is stocked full of various sweet or savoury snacks, free for anyone to take at any time. Hawaiian don't provide those.
DL's inflight entertainment is also much better.....
So if we're comparing apples to apples, other than the sandwich offered on HA's 5-hour flights to the west coast, they're quite average. If I'm going to the mainland, I fly DL almost exclusively.
And yes, as a pilot myself who flies out of Hawaii, your friend is correct. I'm always routed southerly off 08R, before I'm given a 45 heading left turn going eastbound.
@@tristanhnl What an awesome coincidence - we are both opera buffs! When I saw your name, I thought to myself, Tristan is not a common name! When my HA pilot-friend comes to New York, we have gone to see an opera at the Met. As for Delta vs Hawaiian, you probably know more than I do. I’ve had great experiences on Delta…..and some really dreadful ones too. I live west of the Hudson River, so Newark is my preferred airport, and United, by default, is my preferred airline. I haven’t been to the islands in three years, but I don’t think UA offers much on their nonstop. HA, in my experience, served two full meals from JFK, and the FAs and ambience are nicer. So I’ll go to JFK for that experience. My HA friend was just here last week, but we didn’t see an opera. We went to Chinatown for dinner!
Well I weared a hawaiian thing one day at school
Didn’t know Hawaiian were a low cost carrier 😳✍️✍️
Please, where did I say that Hawaiian is a low-cost!?? 😳
@@OnBoardHD if u have to buy anything on a plane other than duty it’s low cost.
What camera do you use to record on your flights
You have that on the description
They seem to have changed their service.I've seem other reports with better food even in the economy. But it's better than others American airlines or even better than most of legacy Airlines in intra European flights
Definitely the best catering for domestic econony in the us
This was a breakfast flight. Few domestic flights to/from Hawaii in economy serve meals. Hawaiian Airlines does. My hat is off to them.
Im so proud of you! I hope it is nice there. Also, beautiful trip! Are you going to fly with Garuda Indonesia soon?
Glad you've enjoyed it!
Thanks :)
I'd choose an A330 over the 737/A320 most of the other airlines are flying.
Have you tried delta airlines yet? They are the best in the US!
There’s actually three classes, technically….first class, economy comfort and economy.
Heeey, the SFO! I used Terminal 2 for Delta Air Lines (and sometimes Terminal 3 for Southwest Airlines) back in the past when I used to go into or out of SFO (In Millbrae) from Romulus, Michigan!
I usef SFO a couple of times already and I like it. Not the most beautiful airport in the US but still nice :]
Several things I'd like to say....
Welcome to Hawaii, my current home! It is a very special place on earth...in my opinion, the best place to live, even though the cost of living is astronomically high. I've been all over the world, and the weather is hands down the best... *THE BEST* . Our summers are not that hot, (30-32 deg C, at most), and our winters are not cold at all, hovering around 18-20 deg C. Just for weather alone, I put up with Hawaii's cost of living.
I have to be honest, I am not a fan of Hawaiian Airlines. Currently, many of us who live here HATE this airline. I will fly Delta any day over Hawaiian, if I'm going to the US mainland. Hawaiian has shown us that they don't care about us at all. Not soon after Aloha Airlines was driven to Chapter 7 bankruptcy and ended their operations, and after Mesa packed up and left for the mainland permanently, Hawaiian skyrocketed their prices. And throughout the years, they charged crazy high fares for inter-island travel. I understand that a business is supposed to make money, but come on....the culture of sticking it to the locals at any chance, tells us they don't care about the needs of the people of Hawaii.
Which is why when Southwest started flying inter-island, many of us were EXTREMELY grateful. Hawaiian needs to be put in their place, and given some serious competition.
11:17 Also, I take offence to your saying that there's "absolutely nothing special here", with regard to the snacks for sale 😂. Have you ever tried furikake popcorn? How about furikake rice crackers? I'm sure you have popcorn and rice crackers in Europe, but not furikake, a unique seasoning blend with salted seaweed. It is a specialty hawaiian/japanese snack that cannot be found in most other places in the world. Since you are from Europe, you will *NEVER* find anything like this over there, I guarantee it! So for you to say that there's nothing special about it, is quite frankly, narrow-minded. You very likely didn't even know what it was, and have never tried it. I hope you'll broaden your horizon to try different and unique foods.
Now if the menu consisted only of things like Pringles or M&M's, then yes, you can say "nothing special". But come on....furikake....try it first =] Taro chips are also unique to Hawaii.
19:09, and no, that is not necessarily the "international part of the airport" (ewa concourse). While many international carriers can be found there, they also commonly use the diamond head concourse. The Korean Air 748 that you saw, I've also seen at the F gates. On the other hand, Delta and American also often are found on the ewa side, operating domestic flights. Even United's flights, which are *mostly* at the G gates on the diamond head side, can sometimes be seen scattered on the ewa side.
However, if you're talking about the A gates, then those are just about exclusively for Hawaiian's flights.
19:56 And again, this is not true. You need to remember, other than interisland flights, the shortest domestic flight Hawaiian operates...is 5+ hours long to the mainland. So by nature, they are compelled to provide more service. To be fair, you need to compare HA's mainland flights to the same flights to/from Hawaii by DL, AA, UA, etc. On the mainland, it makes sense for DL, AA and UA to provide fewer service offerings, because the vast majority of their flights are short (4 hours or less). It's good to compare apples to apples.
Why are american airlines (non low-cost) so cheap in their meal services, even when the flight is 4+ hours long. In europe and especially the middle Eastern airlines almost every 2+ hour flight have a decent hot dinner/breakfast meal.
Great video btw!
eres de mallorca no?
Va a ser que no ✈️
Pls Try Sri Lankan airlines
Where is home?
Incorrect ICAO code for Honolulu
The correction is PHNL.
Es usted español.
8:12 Why aren't the crew in their jump seats, after the takeoff? You're still climbing after the initial takeoff!? Doesn't make sense.
Remember that this is an edited video ;)
I’ve never had anything less than outstanding service on Delta when flying domestic. What exactly are you expecting anyway? For the crew to dance between the seats?
I still wonder why I answer this passive-aggressive comments...
Anyway, the catering part of the onboard service is better in Hawaiian than Delta. Unless you preffer just 2 Biscoff biscuits on a 6h flight.
You could have been nicer in your comment, but I agree that DL is better on most metrics, if we're comparing apples to apples.
@@OnBoardHD , DL gives you only snacks for flights 5 hours or less. If you fly longer segments, such as those from HNL to MSP, DTW, ATL, JFK, etc, the service you get on DL is better than on Hawaiian. You get an amenity kit (eye shade, ear plugs), free head phones, and all the snacks you want from the galley, free for the taking at any point in the flight, plus 2 meal services (one complete hot meal and one smaller sandwich service). And I'm saying this as someone who lives in Hawaii and have flown the hometown airline millions of times over my lifetime.
But I can understand how people think Hawaiian is the best domestic airline, since all their domestic flights are 5+ hours long (minus inter-island flights). So of course they need to provide more service than United, Delta and American's domestic offerings on the mainland, which consists of mostly much shorter trips (less than 5 hours). So it's not really the most accurate comparison. To be fair, we have to compare ONLY UA, DL and AA's flights to/from Hawaii, which are the 6+ hour flights.
Neo?
Nice video and service seemed basic. Honolulu Airport seemed easy to navigate.
Now, the noise level was distracting 😳 All that talking combined with the announcements - yikes.
Cheers.
ENOUGH with distance in kilometers and sizes with meters and the rest of that NON-USED metric crap in the United States. GOOD GAWD!!
Feels run down....flying to Hawaii should be festive...vs. a general flight on the mainland. US airlines have become like busses - other countries' airlines are where the US airlines use to be like in the 70's....kind of sad.
Welcome to earth towards the back of the head! 😀
