We LOVE our 60x so far this year! SO much so, that we got a second one. In regards to battery life, we have found that 2 NP-F970 batteries EASILY last us through a full reception. Mainly, this is because we almost never have to have the light set above 50% power (we average about 30%). I would say 100% the best light for the money.
If you put a little piece of diffusion and clip it to the barn doors, you'll get a lot more spread on the light and because the output is more it'll be just fine.
Nice video. As mentioned by Matt, these lights at 100% are overkill for most wedding venues. I'm still pretty happy with my Came-TV 55w Boltzens and similar DIY V-Mount bracket that Matt uses. If you're looking strictly for wedding reception lights, the CAME-TV ones are a better value. But the versatility of the Aputures is impressive. The Came-TV Boltzens aren't strong enough to hold softboxes like the Aputure can. At the same time, I think the 60x is slightly under-powered to use as a key light with a softbox. For the record, I have the Came-TV Boltzens for weddings and rim lights, and 120D II's and a 300D II for keys and fills for interviews, narratives, etc.
Yoo Matt how does this compare to the new 60x the baby one at 199? I have been trying to go smaller and lighter with my wedding kit and curious your thoughts on the lightstorm vs Amaran
Beautiful lights… I took your advice and purchased 3 of them… they are my staple lights for wedding reception videos. 🙌Thanks for suggesting these lights.
Hi Matt, I bought one 60X recently and yet to use it in a wedding but very impressed with everything about it. In your experience, do you think having a second light up for the first dance would make a significant difference? I'm tempted to add a second but unsure if it'll be worth it. Thanks!
Hi Matt. I know this video is from 3 years ago. Are the LS60x still relevant today day or could you recommend a newer light with similar features for weddings? Thanks
Great comparison, Matt. Also, on the brightness, remember you’re adding 40% on the aputure, so compare the increase to the starting point on the aputure: 60%. That gives an increase of 40/60, which is 66% brighter... even better! Aggie math. 👍
Hey Matt! What about the Aputures sub brand AMARAN COB 60X for $169? Would that be a great option to or would you stick with the Aputure 60x? Thanks in advance!
Matt, have you compared the flare throwing capabilities of 60x and 602? Since everyone says the Practilite produces beautiful flares when backlighting, so I wonder how’s that aspect with the Aputure light?
Hi Matt. I am looking to iNvest on a pair of Aputure 60x's. Do you have any videos or recommendations on tall heavy duty light stands for these lights? Most Ive seen usually go up tp 11 or so. Some venues ghave higher ceilings. Thanks. Love your channel btw!
Thanks for the detailed comparison Matt! There's flicker in the dance shot at 10:14. Was that caused by the Aputure? I've not noticed a Practilite causing flicker.
Wow, the 60x looks like such an amazingly versatile compact light! Love the power options and the Bowens Mount!! Seems like such a slam dunk purchase. Always great reviewing Matt!
I've been using th Came-TV Boltzen 55 and the 30 for some time now and love it... I now just take the 30 because its sufficient for almost all my weddings... has Sony NP battery, Dtap for Vmount, and the power I use is usually 20% from 8-10 Feet away... (underrated lite that works wonders for the low price)
Hey Matt! Which light stand do you recommend for this one? I'm struggling to find something both practical and sturdy enough to use the 60x with a big softbox (120)
You might wanna look into something like a Matthews maxi kit steel stand. They are much heavier duty and should handle that setup without being too heavy.
@@whoismatt thanks Matt! It's incredible how fast you reply, I seriously think that you hide a few little Matts in your beard that take care of this aspect of youtube and feed on bread crumbs
How would you compare this to the Amaron 60x that has most of the same features for $200 less. Seems like the Amaron just doesn’t change its beam angle and looks different
Thanks for the great review. It's definitely something to look into. I think sandbags are a must for the 60x though. I can't imagine that stand standing on its own with the added weight of a V-mount battery at the top end.
Hi Matt, were you able to verify whether the 60x mount is Dedolight compatible or not? I have a bunch of accessories for this mount (M size if I am not mistaken) and it would be great if I could use those with this light as well.
Would the battery life be comparable with x2 8800mah 65watt np-f batteries vs a 150 watt vmount? Do you think I would get the same amount of running time?
Great review. Just curious. Why not just get 60D and use gels since it offers more light output? Or is there a specific reason you decided for 60x. Thx
Soooooo interesting Matt! Been looking to upgrade my CameTV Boltzens. A few questions if you’d indulge me! A) I was looking at other 60W COB lights with battery power options. The Godox ML60 was looking like a great option. I couldn’t be sure though how much us miss the built-in fresnel and didn’t know if standard reflector dishes would flood too much or be too tight at weddings. (But you can add a grid to the dish to reduce flood) I’m guessing you’d recommend I spend an extra £100 and get not only the fresnel adjustability but bi-colour capability from the 60X B) impressed by the power output. Would you say it’s powerful enough to use as a key light with a fairly large soft box, or would it still be weak compared with a 120watt light? C) lastly, would you worry about the added top heavy weight of the battery for safety at weddings. I usually have my stands a good bit higher than you. I use sand bags but still... people get drunk etc... Appreciate the review and hope all the fam is well friend!
Hey Clive! Yes I would spend the extra on the 60x as the fresnel and bicolor are very nice. 60x isn’t as bright as the 120d but it’s still quite impressive for its size. It comes pretty close to the 120d when using it with a fresnel. As far as weight goes, that’s definitely a concern. Would definitely recommend sandbags or getting a longer cord and mounting the battery lower + sandbags.
Hey how well do these lights do in an interview setting competing with sunlight coming through windows in the background? That's kind of my my main measuring stick.
Hi Matt, Firstly I absolutely love you content it’s absolutely amazing and helped me sooooooo much. What V mount batter would you recommend for wedding reception, I have a 120d mk2 Thanks
Hi Matt, thanks for the review! Have you looked at any of the CAME-TV lights? The Boltzen Q-55S seems very comparable and is less expensive. Keep it up dude!
Haven't had a chance to use the new Q-55S, but I've used previous Boltzen lights. I didn't love the cheaper feeling build quality, but they worked well for the price.

So stoked! Matt, on BH it doesn't mention the Bowens adapter as being included in the box. Can you confirm it's for sure in there? Or at least they'll sell it separately?
They nailed the price to features ratio with this one. Sold!

Do you use any softbox on the 60X light for weddings? It looks very bright and how do you handle shadows without an umbrella or softbox?
You can also get a v-mount sharkfin to mount two v-mounts on the light to get double the juice.
Thanks Matt!

Thanks for the overview. Do you know if it has an electrical cord that plugs into the Paul C Buff vagabond mini lithium battery?
Definitely picking one of these up this year. Well likely next year if the weddings are pushed again, but it’s on my radar!
When will this light be available for purchase?
Matt, thank you for the Review, it was very helpful for my decision. But what about Fannoise. Is the 60x more on the silent side of Lights?
It’s pretty quiet. On par with other small lights I would say. Fan doesn’t need to turn on if it isn’t too bright
So should i cancel my 100d order for this? Gonna be using a lightdome se with it
Hey Matt, How high do you put these lights? what kind of light stand do you have?
Great video as always matt. You use 2 or more on the dancefloor?
Just one usually. Don’t want things to be too bright.
What is the brand for the V-mount battery?
What kind of connector do you get to connect from the end of the connector of the 60x to the V-Mount Battery? it is a (Blank) to D-tap adapter.
Would the battery life be comparable with x2 8800mah 65watt np-f batteries vs a 150 watt vmount? Do you think I would get the same amount of running time?
