Your joybul backpacking days have just begun! I started in my early 20's and backpacked for over 30 years during my vacations. Work always sucked but it was worth it for my incredible adventures. It's a big beautiful country and there are so many great wilderness areas to visit. Be happy for the trails in front of you!
Best of luck pursuing your passion for hiking/backpacking. Consider yourself among the few who actually take the leap as opposed to “just talking” about pursuing their dream. Definitely look forward to seeing your new gear and enjoy the family time.
It's not just thru-hikers who get that "WTF am I doing here?" and would rather be on trail. The longest trip I've had was 14 days, but I've had that "WTF" feeling as soon as I got in the car to go home when I finished the trail. That was 2 years ago. 😢 I'm still stuck in 9 to 5 hell, and will be either until I retire in 4 years, or I win a lottery. Or die. Whichever comes first. I've also applied to jobs in the outdoor industry, and have had no luck. How exciting that you've invented something and have a patent application for it! 👏👏 That's really cool. I can't wait to see it 😊
You can make money and you can lose money.... but you cannot make time. You achieved and experienced a pinnacle that most people will never get to experience. In reality, people do what people want to do. Hope is the future, the past is behind you. You now have the present time, which is a "gift." I still believe your desire to give back and share with others is your life's calling. With me, prayer is either your steering wheel or your spare tire. Focus on the road ahead, keep your chin up and hike on!
Journeyman Jim here I remember meeting you in Vermont @ the southern terminus of the long trail in the parking lot where I was trying to get into town . Congratulations on your life journey and endeavors all the best 2 U
Is becoming a ridgerunner for the forestry service or ATC or whomever handles that an option? In one of the more southern states it could be a year long gig, more seasonal in the northern states I would think. I've seen a video by a lady who does that on the AT. She does small scale trail maintenance (folding handsaw type stuff), calls in the areas that require chainsaws to clear and camps on trail like any other hiker, complete with all the standard backpacking gear, food, water filter, etc., plus folding handsaw, for however many days she's on the trail. Don't know what it pays or if you patrol the same area all the time so 🤷🏼♀️. Just a thought and maybe one you've already considered 🤔. Can't wait to see what cool invention you've got a "Patent Pending" on. 😊
Your Shake Down Hike service idea is a great idea.... Run with it! Your creativity plus your passion fueled being, etc...are your greatest assets, Roadrunner. I am super stoked for you! Take advantage of your resources!! Looking forward to your new product video!
I thru hiked 20 years ago - in 2000 and again in 2003 - A day dose not go by when I do no think about the trail. I know one day I’ll hike again - I get spring fever every year !!
That's beautiful my friend, you are speaking for all of us who long for a simpler life. I grew up in the woods and the woods were my playground as a child, then l had to work for a living and the old adage of if you are working for a living then why are you killing yourself working has always been my guidance. Thank you sweet pea☺️
Cool ideas, Julianne. And congrats on having a patent pending. Can't waitfor the video. Have fun with your dad while he 's visiting. Take care of yourself and stay safe.
I don't understand companies who don't want to put the wages upfront so they are not wasting your time. However, it sounds like you are on to something with the shake-down hikes, and your gear invention. Can't wait to see it. Nice your dad is coming to pay a visit. Enjoy! Hike~~On~~> to that next adventure :)
Wow a whole year already. It is so nice your dad is coming to see you. My roots on my fathers side is traced back to East Prussia which as you know was a providence of Germany. I hope he has an amazing visit.
So glad you're dad and you got to spend time together! So cool the you miss the AT that much. That impresses me. I really want to do it too. I think I'll start saving up
Exciting to see you actively seeking ways to pursue your dream. Don’t give up, you’re young with the time to make it happen. Looking forward to seeing your new piece of gear. ❤❤
Thank you for the shoutout! Your heart is on the trail and I hope you get to do things on or around her in order to quench that ache a lot of us feel. Cherish the time with your Dad and see you on the next video.
This is exciting news. I look forward to seeing your invention! Did you see that Jay Wanders Out is hiking the Camino right now. Well, his vids are posting now.
I've seen a dozen if I've seen one, people who've left normal life, sold their homes, possessions, etc, quit their jobs and become full time RUclipsrs. Some have bought small Van's and converted them for travel, a few hike and then get part time jobs in between hikes. You're at 7 thousand subscribers, you have a good starting base, you fit the profile of a popular RUclipsr, maybe you'll find the wherewithal to leave the "grind" and go forth as a full time content provider. We may see the World as messed up right now but technology and the internet make it possible for people to find their passions and monetize them. Not everyone can become a "star" but as I said, you fit the profile, you have skills, use them to fulfill your dreams.
This is your channel. If you want to advertise your patent, you should do it without worrying. Folks that know and love you and support your successes will always be there. Wir haben dich lieb und wollen das Allerbeste für dich!❤
Your thru-hike shakedown service sounds amazing! If I were ready to do one, I'd totally hire you! The patent is also exciting! Can't wait to hear more :)
Wow! That would have been a nice job in North Carolina! That is such a shame that the pay wasn't that great. That is awesome though that you are starting to do shakedown hikes for those preparing for a thru-hike! Also, looking forward to seeing more of your hiking adventures! Aww.and have a wonderful time with your Dad! That is wonderful that he is visiting! 😊
It is courageous on your part to hear you talk about living your future with passion. Keep at it and don’t be discouraged and keep moving forward. The journey is in your hands. Live your dreams!
It's been 26 yrs. Since my thru hike, and I'm always looking for a way back. Those week trips and weekend trips make all the difference. Do the best to get back out in different sections of the trail.
Only an opinion..I think thru hikers experience addiction.... withdrawal...and if you lived in NH..VT ..or Maine...you could have your fix on days off...
Im sorry the NC job didnt work out thats where im from. Sounded like a good plan but im not surprised about the pay part of it. Thats NC we have a governor that literally doesnt care. On a side not congratulations on the new Patton and the new product you are working on. You should be super proud of that. It takes a lot guts to make something new. Just be care and dont over Welm your self with it. Only because you said your makeing it your self. And not in a product line. Because i have seen things like this before personally. And all it takes is for one person out there on the internet to show that product to someone or some company and next thing you know. You got an oder of thousands of that product. And they can't do it that fast. Just keep that in mind. Im not trying to make you worry or anything. But im just giveing you a heads up. I think i speak for everyone that we all care about you even tho we have never met you we all want to see you Succeed in life. your doing a great job with your channel and you will allways have my support. And much love from NC ❤ and be safe out there
Nope - I must politely disagree; these are two huge commitments, and must be something you REALLY want! Much like hiking the AT, a lot of people start and quit bc it’s too hard or they rushed into something ill prepared. Not saying don’t do it, but I think it is okay to not have that desire to (or even if just not right now ;)

I'll never forget watching you on top of Katahdin with a full pack. I knew then you were a unique hiker. Like all your videos.
Thank you for the kind words

You can do it
So inspiring and exciting!!!
Thank you
Exciting to see you actively seeking ways to pursue your dream. Don’t give up, you’re young with the time to make it happen. Looking forward to seeing your new piece of gear. ❤❤
Have a nice visit. Health care jobs usually under pay. Good Luck as a guide. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick
Very true about healthcare jobs.
Thank you for the shoutout! Your heart is on the trail and I hope you get to do things on or around her in order to quench that ache a lot of us feel. Cherish the time with your Dad and see you on the next video.
That's the plan!

Great insight on life after trail. Awesome that your Dad is coming for a visit. Have a blast.
Thanks! Will do!
Very insightful…finding life balance you want to live with 🙏🙂
Indeed
I love how your German accent sneaks out some while you are talking.
lol 😂
What you said was so true (to me). If my normal job is the way to achieve my dream, I should love it as much as I love living my dream.
That’s so true
Good luck. Stacking money can be fun but often it difficult and sucks
So true

Yeah it would have been a nice job
I love your idea - best of luck to you! And I can't believe it's been a year since you finished your hike!
Time flies
I always wondered where you were from, and if you ever told us, I always missed it. 👍🏻
Germany
Sounds awesome! I'm excited for you and hope you have a great visit.
I hope so too!
congrats on the patent!
Thank you!!
Thank you
You're welcome
Just a crazy idea…you could move to or near Asheville, NC…close to many trails and l think you could find dance students there as well.
Yeah it’s definitely a thought
It is courageous on your part to hear you talk about living your future with passion. Keep at it and don’t be discouraged and keep moving forward. The journey is in your hands. Live your dreams!
You should come to Massachusetts. There is a vibrant dance scene here and we are a short drive to the White Mountains.
Mhhhhh 🤔
Can you do both? Work and take hiking breaks????
That’s what I’m trying to do
It's been 26 yrs. Since my thru hike, and I'm always looking for a way back.
Those week trips and weekend trips make all the difference.
Do the best to get back out in different sections of the trail.
Well said!
Also helps to live in a trail town!
Hahahha
Come and do Camino Portugues with us next year.
Oh fun
You could always become a travel vlogger in the vein of Efren Gonzalez.
I would like to. It’s not that easy unfortunately. I would need a much larger subscriber audience to be able to live on vlogging.
I hope this invention has your River Crossin' logo
🤷🏼♀️
Only an opinion..I think thru hikers experience addiction.... withdrawal...and if you lived in NH..VT ..or Maine...you could have your fix on days off...
Like a drug. Very likely
Please be careful.!
Will do

I am 65 years old and still asking myself what am.I doing here. AT thru hiker in 1983.
Wow, that is so so cool! Would love to know more about how it was back then
Enjoy time with your father. There isn't an easy way to make a good living from working in the care sector. Wages are just so low.
Thank you so much
Learn to be an adventure guide.
Sure
Find a spouse start a family. Normal life.
Uhm you think so?
