Don't get me wrong, I'm really liking the scape, but I'm more impressed by the fact that you not only found a lid that fit so perfectly, but you also had a light that fit the lid, and you were able to just create a lamp out of a few pieces and parts.

@@ironcladteddy8753 Oh yes! It's a very easy walk, right past Horsetail Falls Bridge if you're approaching from Portland. There's a second fall nearby called Ponytail Falls that's pretty cute. Oneonta Gorge is close to Horsetail and Ponytail, very beautiful, but tends to get overcrowded and can be a bit of a hike (especially over the log jam). It's amazing, but requires basically wading up creek to reach it. Better to look at photos, I think. Bridal Veil Falls is another waterfall along the Gorge that's easy to access and quite lovely!

Okay I've made a similiar setup before, there are two problems that I encounter:
    1. Those pump still somehow get clogged by small debris although I have literally wrapped it in filter foam, and to unclog it will need a lot of effort (basically removing everything and then reattach)
    2. The minerals in water will stain the glass/acrylic because the water will splash even if using the lowest pump speed, in which if they are not cleaned immediately it will be really hard to clean, especially in a closed tank

    • @zenphotojourney

  • @d-padqueen1103

It's beautiful! However, as a crafter I have a couple of tips:
#1 Always mark where your stuff is going to go with tape on the outside before securing it with silicone - if you mess up, it's going to be either painful to fix or waste material.
#2 You'll have a real hard time cleaning or replacing that filter foam when it inevitably will need maintenance as its secured to the bottom. I would recommend using something else to hold it in place and hide - like rocks or wood.
#3 Be careful on your choice of mosses as some species don't like constant water movement or saturation so they'll just rot away from the water, those usually prefer damp and poorly lit locations.

  • @jean6061
    @jean6061 3 года назад +2

I love this idea! Resembles some of the waterfalls here in West Virginia. I find it interesting that the water flow and sound made at the falls depends on how the water cascades over the rock. One spot looks like a flat sheet of water coming over the rock while others fall to one rock, then another, and finally into a pool at the base.

Not sure you will ever see this but that LED ring light has ventilation built in to it. You covered that with the lid. LEDs of that strength "should" run cool enough for that not to matter but you essentially built a pocket that will trap the hot air. I would recommend cutting large vent holes or slots in the top of the lid. Other than that, wonderful build! Probably not a big deal but could be a fire hazard with the lid being made of plastic.

Instead of using the three plastic measuring cups the lava rock is easy enough to use a Dremel or something along that line and you could’ve taken three decent size lava rocks and made bowls and him and then put a hole in the top one and then fit up all your pieces and then it would look like it was completely natural as the lava rocks act as the different warm waterfalls and that way you don’t see any plastic pieces from any angle just a thought

  • @Cedestra

I was trying to find an idea for a moss terrarium and this looks perfect. Mind if I ask two questions?
    1) [noob builder here] Why did you use plastic cups instead of foam spray? Could you do that or is it too tricky to get the angles right and/or making it watertight?
    2) Did you add any fauna to it? I did see a tiny creature and someone else in the comments mentioned a snail.

I couldnt tell you why, but I really am a sucker for black rocks and sand, they just always look good in setups to me

Very awesome! For the larger version you mentioned you could always get one of those large stand alone cylinder tanks but build a case for it to match the wood decor in the animal room

Gorgeous. No pun intended. I am obsessed with moss.

If you let the water flow more slowly through the rocks rather than just pouring down would make it more pleasing. And use a gallon jar

I bet if you glue moss to the edges of the plastic spouts you could add more direction interest to the fall pattern. That way the water will fall in sections, and hide the plastic. Use the moss or tiny stones in the spout to interrupt and change the water flow. I mess around with these too but never saw or tried in glass containers. The Last time I looked you were designing plain terrariums.... arent they such a stress reliever????

5x the size would do so much more with this indeed, love to see this with plants and a few fish

As soon as I finished this video I bought all the supplies to make one for myself, can’t wait to give it a try!

    I love it.
I would experiment with sand paper to ruff up the plastic in front of the led for better light diffusion.
I could never make mine look that good by a long shot

It really looks like a piece of a larger design, like a corner of a salamander enclosure, maybe? Idk, it begs for some amphibian occupant :)))

I’d add a few equal size grooves or teeth if you will to the initial cup, to break up the water stream a bit more and get more of that natural broken up waterfall feel.

I'd love to see a foo the flowerhorn type video OR one in the style of a Baumgartner Restoration ASMR, just to see/hear a cool side to the builds 👍👍
