I called and randomly spoke to Matt. Kinda taken back that I actually spoke to the Boss. First class all the way! Took the time to talk with me about a Tuckaway case. I’ll be stopping by the shop if I ever make it to AZ.
One of the coolest things that I think about Razor Emporium is the willingness to help out a customer. I have a ball end pocket edition razor that I inherited from my grandfather. When I got it, it was just the razor, case, and blade bank. It did not have the inserts in the case to hold everything. So, the razor pieces and the blade bank just rattled around in the case. I reached out to Razor Emporium and Matt let me know that he had a set of inserts and would be able to add it to the case with new covering. Not only did I jump on this, but I ended up doing the full razor revamp on my set due to their willingness to help. I can't wait to get my set back. Thanks Matt!
What started me with double edge shaving was my desire to not spend what I was on cartridge systems. I figured in the past, people were getting good shaves from a single blade. So I ventured into double edge territory. Once inside this method I quickly learned it's all about pressure of the razor on the face and the angles of the razor to the skin. Not to mention endless options for different razors, new and vintage, as well as all the different blades types. I doubt we will see a company devoted to restoring vintage cartridge razor systems in the future.
I stopped by the shop on my way to college. it was relly cool to see it in person but unfortunately missed Matt. It was a 5 hour detour but was well worth it!
Only thing you need know is Razor Emporium is great place to shop. Products, prices, and staff rockS. So if you are ever in Phoenix. Arizona got to visit Razor Emporium. Do not miss opportunity.👍
I didn’t get to speak to you but I did get to talk with the amazing wonderful DJ when I called. I have nothing but good things to say about her, the company, and the products. My only request is to add an option to order a soap holder of sorts with the new pre shave.
Met you twice at Maggard. The meets used to be fun. Hopefully they bring them back. I almost stopped by in April on a business trip to Casa Grande but was feeling under the weather.
Nicely done Matt👍👍 "All things vintage shaving"... pretty much says it all. Thanks Matt for a down home channel that never disappoints. Always interesting stuff here, from the business aspect to the smiles at the end of videos. Great content.
Thanks for letting us benefit from your passion Matt. I have purchased quite a few of your vintage revamps and they are fantastic. Your team does such a fantastic job on the revamps, and I love shaving with them. The fatboy revamps I purchased from you are incredible. Thank you for letting me experience a shave of the past. It really saddens me to see what Gillette sells now, and restoring these lets us see and feel how good their products used to be.
Awesome guy, awesome company. Recently bought my sensitive skin double edge shaving kit and LOVE it. When I’m ready I’m going to make the jump to a straight razor too.
I just jumped to the SR. It's not as scary as you think. Similar to the DE. I still use the DE under my nose and neck. I use the SR on my head face and second pass neck. Shavette is a little too close for my skin so I didn't get too invested in it.
Great video Matt! So cool to watch your company grow! I know you now make Shaving soap, but today I discovered the 6th thing on your website. You make Unscented Shaving soap...YAY...YES...FANTASTIC! To all of us sensitive skin and allergy sufferers of scents, this is an Amazing addition to your product line. I can’t wait to try it. Thank you so much! 👍😊
Very nice video, Matt! I've been following your channel for a time now and I was just curious about nearly all these things! And in fact, YES, I went into wet shaving because for me and my skin, multiblades and canned foam was a torture: ingrown hairs, irritation to the point of not being able to shave more than twice a week, etc. Now, sometimes I can shave twice A DAY with no significant problems! A pity I live far (and I mean VERY FAR; like in another continent 😆) because otherwise I'll visit your lobby! Thanks for this video, and thanks for this channel, you look like a really great guy!
Matt, I completely agree with you about DE shaving. My skin feels great every day by using a fresh blade and high quality products. You appear to be a head taller than everyone in the room in this video. Something I never noticed in your others. I'm going to guess 6'6"?
A very interesting and informative look at Razor Emporium. I'm curious to know your vocation before you started Razor Emporium. Wishing you continued success!
I found my first good shaving DE in an antique store, Gillette Aristocrat. My first DE was a slant and I hoped I could get a better shave with a different razor and so I did.
The Roy Johnson segment was especially interesting to me. What happens to the lifetime collections of the Masters? Who are the new Master collectors and might they be willing to share visual access?
Loved this video, Matt - lots of footage we’ve never seen before, and that was really cool. And hey, if this college band director thing doesn’t work out, I’ll come work for you in Phoenix! 😉
Great & fascinating video made by and for people sharing a passion. Looking forward to receiving my REX XL Ambassador De Luxe G. All the best to You and Your Team.
Hello Matt and team! Hey would you mind doing a specific video about the Prospector Fat Boy? I found out my wonderful wife ordered one for my birthday and I would love to learn about it. Thanks!
Really nice one Matt, thank you! I was very surprised about "other collectors" that do not shave with vintage razors lol. I can understand that if it "belongs in a museum" not using it, but just a nice Red Tip Super Speed or Slim Adjustable just has to be used, right!? :)
Very interesting, Matt. Thank you for the range of interesting content. Two years ago, I switched to using a brush, high quality cream (Castle Forbes) as well as their pre-shave and after shave balm. Recently, I have decided to take the plunge and switch from Mach 3 to DE blades. Since, I have been using a pivoting head razor for years, I have decided to go with a similar platform and have just ordered a Leaf Thorn and the High Proof razor (via Kickstarter), which is very similar to OneBlade, but without the expensive, proprietary blade. I like the idea of using 1/2 of a DE, since I will never have to worry about balancing each side of a DE blade using a standard safety razor. I have learned from your videos that for every razor there is likely an optimal blade and I like the idea of the search for the holy grail. Unlike some Internet wet shavers, who talk of the “rabbit hole,” my goal is to optimize and then limit my approach, but remaining open to new products. Your content on blades is excellent and I will be getting some samplers, shortly. Thanks again!
What's cool about Razor Emporium? No one else has replica handles for ball ends or double/single rings in their store. Or reproduction psycho tech keys! That is pretty awesome.
Hi Matt, absolutely love your videos and company, but please please have a chat with your team on customer care! Tried ordering a safety razor from the holy black. Seemed your last item was a demo one. Really appreciate you guys don’t want to send that out to a customer, but till now I’ve had received no timelines or an answer on when and how I will receive the razor. Would have been great if someone responded to my emails or had given me a call directly!
I apologize for the delay - we've had 2 key staff members out this week with illness. We will get back to you asap but the holy black order just shipped to us yesterday so you should get your item soon. Thanks,
Hi, folks! I'm new to Razor Emporium, but I'm not new to DE razors. I learned to shave on an old Gillette Safety razor my step-father gave me. Of course, like a lot of people my age (68) I began using the "newfangled", multi-blade razors when they came out. Eventually, those razors became prohibitively expensive and I began looking for an alternative. About 8 years ago I purchased my 1st new DE razor. As is my nature, I went overboard and purchased the most expensive razor in the Merkur line, the Futura. That razor was a huge disappointment. The adjustment mechanism failed within a few months and the metal the razor was made from literally disintegrated in my hands. I was extremely disappointed especially since I really tried to be very careful with the razor. After that experience, I decided on a simpler design. That led me to an Australian company called Viking Blades. Talking with 'Julian' the owner via email he promised the new 'Chieftain' Butterfly razor would last more than a year. And, it did! It lasted a good 7 years, or so. Unfortunately, the Butterfly mechanism got worn and allowed the blade to shift around. A recipe for a bloody neck. Which brings us to the present time. I decided I wanted to go to an even simpler, more robust design: the 3-piece razor. After a great deal of research, I decided to give Merkur another try. So, I purchased the Merkur 180, "Long Handle". I've only had the razor a short time, but I'm very pleased with its performance. I have a fairly course beard on top of sensitive skin and the Model 23C seems to be perfect. I get a smooth, close, irritation free shave, which I think we all are looking for. I hope this Merkur will last longer than the last one. As I said, I'm new to Razor Emporium, but I like the content and the enthusiasm. Reviewing the videos, I've learned a few things and will continue to check-in from time to time. Thanks for great content.
#6. You make great educational, informative, entertaining videos. Well I guess that is known. #7. You have a cool t-shirt that you want to send to me as the winner (hey it can’t hurt to try).
The Antiques and Traditional Wet shaving is due to two things: My Grandpa, who passed away when I was 6 (1990), and the Three Stooges, especially scenes involving shaving. I wanted to know how things were in the late 1920s-1960s. The hey days of my Grandpa and the way things and everyday objects were in those days. Today....a lot of crap compared to back in the day, hence Antiques and Vintage Shave Gear. That Christmas of 1996(age 12), Burma Shave Tin with mug, brush, and soap with a Gillette Slim Twist....here I am 2022 and have not changed the way I have shaved. There was no Razor Emporium or PAA or any other sites or shops...I was on my own in a world where the Mach 3 was about 2 years shy of its debut. I was considered an old thinking fart because of the way I shaved. Now look at all those who are joining "The Wet Shave Life" because it's economical, or it's a hobby (that keeps one well groomed), and it has many skin health positives. I preach about Wet Shaving to those who listen, both Men and Women...many converts on my end. I'm glad that Razor Emporium and you, are here spreading the word, showing the benefits of "This Life " and people getting a great Shave. Thank You so much.
I am a great believer in the adage; "never judge a book by its cover": thus quite paradoxically the attitude(s) held and observed in and/or by a number of individuals belonging to wet shaving enthusiasts Facebook Groups is somewhat reinforced by the sort of individuals shown visiting or engaging various activities in this video.... I suppose this is technically neither positive or negative but just an observation.
I collect vintage safety razors since 4 years. Finding them on antique markets and antique shops. (I have 16 at the moment.) The last two I found in an antique shop in Bangkok. (My eagle eye wife spotted them.) One of them a razor I never did see before. A Bayard. Still in it's original leather box.
This is an outstanding video! Had no idea that you visited Pasteurs, I would love to go to their next meet up and would hope to say hi to you if you attend it, you are the reason why I’m now into vintage Gillette 🪒 razors:)

RE videos is how I learned to wet shave. It has taught me what things are and what everything is used for.
What started me with double edge shaving was my desire to not spend what I was on cartridge systems. I figured in the past, people were getting good shaves from a single blade. Would love to check out the store. Might require a road trip in the future. Great video.
I didn’t know that you film these videos at a different location. One of the things I learned when I stopped by the shop for a visit.
Matt does answer the phone! I called in with a question and Matt answered. He may have been playing golf at the time! He handled my question...
Matt, you're killing it with the digital content! Nice work!🔥🔥🔥
If I'm ever in Phoenix I'll drop by your store. As a history buff I appreciate what you're doing.

Wondering what that want ad would look like……. Lol
Gillette really knew how to make razors in the fifties & sixties.
Have you ever thought about making shaving brushes
They already have their own badger brushes
What about synthetic
First. Maybe.
