Ugh don't remind me, my son was born May 6, 2009 .. I was jealous that they had had Carly on the 18th. May 18th is my deceased father's bday. He passed while I was pregnant. They really need to remember their situation at 16... They were living with 2 addicts and a 100 kids in a trailer. They didn't have a good place for her to live in and they didn't want to give her a life less than perfect. They made this decision out of unconditional, selfless love. I think they're happy she has a good family, but regret that the family doesn't fully cooperate with them. Like most open adoptions have parents that send pics and allow visitation and in many ways accept the birth parents as a second family. I feel like Brandon and Teresa get put down a lot for something that isn’t their fault... They made it clear from the beginning that they don’t want Carly subjected to the scrutiny that comes with being on television. They had NO IDEA that Cate and Ty were going to be on the show for a hundred years. It was SUPPOSED to be about teen pregnancy and we all know they aren’t teenagers anymore. I feel for everyone involved but in the end, as Dawn pointed out, Catelynn and Tyler don’t reach out... unless the cameras are rolling it seems. Even the case worker told her, don’t miss out on your time and Cate got snotty w her.
Plus, they had no real solid direction on what they really did and how it worked. I think the case worker made it sound so easy to them promising more than what Brandon and T may have thought to do. And you’re right, who would have known they’d still be on TV! That kind of is the fact of the matter, however. They WERE just "loaned" the child to raise. They have the privilege of being with her every day of her childhood, but they do not OWN her. She will (of course) want her birth parents in her life after she is 18. Ask any adoptee. The worst thing any one can do to her is to force her to choose sides...make her feel guilty for daring to love her birth parents as well as her adoptive parents. None of us OWN our children. We are loaned them, given them to protect and raise and love, but we have to let them go one day and let them make their own choices. Brandon and Teresa have become very selfish with Carly. They do not want to share her love with her other parents. They want to control her, own her, keep her to themselves forever...and that's just not how parenting works.

Anyone judging these two have never walked a mile in their shoes. Tyler wasn’t blowing what Dawn said out of proportion, he was venting on how he was feeling about the situation & Dawn was & is a wonderful mediator. She understands how hard it is for both of them & the emotional toll it’s taken on them, Carly’s adoptive parents, & their families. It’s hard for Cate & Ty because mentally when they think of Carly, part of them will always remember that excruciating pain of handing her over, but they’re also stuck with the knowledge that they’re now secure enough to take care of her - but they can’t. Reaching out is just as hard for them as it is for Carly’s adoptive parents because they feel at their most vulnerable, & frightened of rejection on seeing & knowing how their first born is doing.

It’s interesting because I think the majority of her trauma comes from having a bad childhood/home life. Her mother was an abusive alcoholic, her father was absent from her life and her ex step father was a drug addict. I think Cate fixates on Carly to avoid dealing with those traumas.

Get over it? That's a bit harsh and unrealistic. You can also look at it like this: Cate and Tyler were still children when they chose to give up their child for adoption. Maybe at the time they didn't even realize the implications it would have in the future...they were not mature. In a way this system takes advantage of the child parents to protect the innocent infant. You cannot even sign a contract legally before the age of 18 for the same reasons, yet they are signing away their own child at 16/17. Not saying that adoption is wrong in those circumstances I'm just saying you can't tell the 16 and 17 year olds to simply "get over it" lmao. It's more complicated than that.

Honestly after watching how all of this played out, it seems to have turned some people off from adoption. I was reading about this just recently how many people used this case as their reason for changing their minds about local adoption. In the past adoptions were closed. Now it's beyond being open but more like adoptive parents are expected to have a relationship with bio parents. And to hear these poor kids regretting their decision so openly and to hear the sister saying she wishes she had her sister living in their house, a lot of people no longer are open to the idea of adoption within the US. That's why so many go overseas. They want to feel like the child is their own. Not that they are sharing the child with the "real" family. Brandon and Theresa to this day get lots of hate saying they were wrong for keeping the baby and they should have given Carly back.
I feel sorry for everyone on all sides of this. I really wish Tyler and Caitlyn could have temporarily given up Carly to a foster home and then gotten her back. As a mother myself I can only imagine how hard this is for all concerned ... but Brandon and Teresa are her parents, yes it was an open adoption but they must watch how chaotic Tyler and especially Caits life are and still face many serious issues they have yet to overcome. None of them had any idea what a huge phenomenon MTV teen mom would become and as a parent I would be worried myself on how this affected my daughter. As a parent on the adoptive side of things, I can see why Brandon and Teresa probably have made the choices they have. Tyler was posting pics of Carly on social media when they specifically said they didn’t want them to do that. Cate did have issues where she wasn’t even home with nova. The one job Brandon and Teresa have is to love and care for Carly and do what is in her best interest. I feel that maybe cate and ty are angry because it wasn’t their shortcomings that made the adoption decision, it was their toxic families and environment that did. I feel that Brandon and Teresa get the brunt of the anger, but all they’ve done is love and provide for Carly. Cate and ty need to find a way to make peace with the choice they made and why they made it. I’m sure they feel cheated, but it happens to a lot of us in different ways. They have kids of their own that need their love and attention and they should feel blessed that they’ve had another chance to be the best parents. They need to fully focus on that and let the anger go. On another note, I’m sure Brandon and Teresa feel cheated too because the relationship with cate and ty has been hard with their public personas. I’m sure it would be easier in many ways without tv cameras in their lives for the past 10 plus years. Just my thoughts

Now I know they have been and made a lot of money from it but they could’ve kept Carly and found jobs to support themselves and their daughter. They also could’ve had her mom or his mom watch Carly even though I know the parents had a bad lifestyle. Cate allowed her mom to watch Nova all the time and the mom never changed. I feel like this show really made their anxiety and depression spiral out of control too. They are brave parents for giving up their daughter but I feel like if they still had her things for the better would have changed around.

And thank goodness it's that way. Brandon & Teresa have been stalked because Cate & Ty constantly post Carly on social media & broadcast every single detail about her on TM.
Any normal parent wouldn't want their child subjected to such. Also, Cate can barely take care of herself at times. They also surround themselves with toxic people. On top of that, they're so rude to almost everyone. Even to the mediators. They also come late to certain scheduled visits, even though they had enough time to come through.
Also, many kids get picked on when everyone knows they're adopted. Carly may only want to deal with Cate & Ty when she's of age & ready. Brandon & Teresa are doing a good job by allowing her to have a normal childhood, not under the scrutiny of TV.
Birth parents have a sick tendency of not honoring agreements. Many barely reach out, unless something is in it for them. Especially when the kid is older. They expect the kid to do things for them. We've all seen it. Or they just reach out because their conscience gets to them.
In this case, clearly, Carly is better off living privately with her parents. Cate & Ty don't have shared custody & must stop being so demanding, whilst barely making any efforts.

    • @KS-di4df
      @KS-di4df 3 года назад +6

@Lillian Paige, I actually don't think that is true... an open adoption can literally just mean that the biological and adoptive parents share their identifying/contact information so they can potentially get in touch. But the level of contact isn't a legally binding agreement and either party can choose to back away from the contact they initially agreed to as well. In this specific case, I think Brandon and Teresa did that when Teen Mom became a full-fledged, long-term reality show and Catelynn and Tyler didn't respect the boundaries they wanted to keep Carly from dealing with that sort of publicity. This is a fair choice IMO, as we've seen some of the kids on the show now it's been mentioned that their friends have seen things on the show. Also now as we see Bentley, Leah and even Aubree setting boundaries about their relationships with their parents, it's entirely possible that Carly is setting similar boundaries. I mean, she knows her parents to be Brandon and Teresa, maybe she doesn't want to know Catelynn and Tyler.

I’m really praying for both sets of parents in this situation. Carley is so blessed to have so many people that love her and want to be apart of her life. And it makes me want to cry considering the situation that everyone is in. But she won’t be little forever. And it will ultimately be her choice to have a relationship with her biological parents and siblings. And I think Tyler and his beautiful wife have enough love on their hearts genuinely to make up for any lost time. I have so much respect for Brandon and his beautiful wife as well! Prayers for everyone involved. Life is so hard. But we gain strength through love listen to Jesus! Love is what everyone needs!

It's so sad because Catelynn and Tyler thought that they wouldn't be able to take care of Carly because they were only 16 and poor but now they are on MTV and making millions of dollars and definitely able to provide a stable home for her but can't because they gave her away.

They wouldn’t have known teen mom would last this long. They have also felt their relationship would not have made it. JMO but I think they rely on so much therapy that they have been misguided at times. My niece found out she was pregnant at 7 months. Not much time to plan. Guess who adopted her baby? Her therapists friends. It never sat w me well.

The adoptive parents should definitely change the terms of the adoption to no contact at this point. They want to be in her life and ultimately, they will want a say and its a no no. She'll be 18 then she can decide but until they need to seriously focus on they kids they currently have.

As a teen mom i chose to keep my baby, he is now 9yo and i remind him that even if i don’t offer him luxury, he will always be rich of love from us! slowly but surely we will make it! YOU GUYS HAVE NOT ACCOMPLISHED ANYTHINGGGG ! JUST HAD MORE CHILDREN! ATLEAST SHOULD OF GOTTEN A DEGREE TO MAKE YOUR DAUGHTER’S ADOPTION WORTH IT! love teen mom 2 but i disagree with you on this one. . .

It's not about Cate and Ty. It's all about Brandon and Teresa and their feelings as the people who raise, clothe, feed and love on Carly. Yes, Tyler is RIGHT. Him and Cate do have to ask for Brandon and Teresa's permission on everything that happens with Carly until the day she turns 18. And if they want their space from Cate and Ty until Carly is 18 and able to make her own decisions than so be it. As Carly's parents they have every right to keep Carly from Cate and Ty. Whether or not that is the best thing for Carly in the long run, hard to say. But it is Brandon and Teresa's right as parents to do what they want.

@@spontaneously01 true but how are you going to show your journey of adoption if you can’t talk about it. They don’t show them or their daughter they talk about it because they have their feelings with the whole situation. And if I’m not wrong after she turn 2 or 3 they were already having issues with them.
I’m so for privacy but they don’t get force into being on the show. And the show shouldn’t be a factor in their open adoption if they haven’t showed their daughter more than twice on the show
