    I cant believe leia left before you finished. Great video and explanation! I'll say that looney toons basically does everything you're "not supposed to do" in animation as a big middle finger to Disney, so that's why they have so many great examples of smears like, smeared all through theirs cartoons! They've got such a great library of references.
    Cant wait for the next video!

    one of the best explanations of 3d smears I've seen online! glad you touched on when to change volume and preserving arcs & pose silhouettes, I've been struggling with the fishtail effect

    Excellent example and well explained. I didn't even think of using motion trials but it really does look like it helps a lot on how to emphasize where the smear motion should be. Thanks!

    12 fps but smear the model to bridge the poses in the run sequence. It’ll give you the look you’re going for.

    This is a great video! I'm understanding smear frames (where the frame is distorted / elongated or 'multiple limbs' are used, for e.g.) but where do 'speed lines' fall into this? Are speed lines another form of 'smear'? Often seen in anime. Or is this different from a smear frame?

    can you do a short video about your workflow and for new animators its kinda hard to add mini movements after the blocking phase that supports the acting, because we dont know what works and what doesnt, im hoping you could teach us about that since your content is so good and engaging!

    • @SkittyAnimates
      @SkittyAnimates  4 года назад

      Thank you pixelpapi! I'm glad you get something out of my videos. I have a workflow video on my list of things to make, but I can certainly bump it up to be next after the video I'm working on right now!

      @@SkittyAnimates oh wow thank you!, the mini movement i meant in earlier comments is after the key poses stage not blocking, i had this problem recently while animating a character whos sitting down and tries to stand up with a basic rig, ive done the key poses and dont know what to add between those poses/frames because its already looks convincing without extra keyframes but it looks very stiff also! im hoping you could discuss that topic in your workflow video since its very common mistakes to new animators, even im strugling with that rn lol

    Awesome! Thanks. How are sword smear done? The kind that looks like a slash or trail? Is it part of the rig or just a "C" shaped object with visibility on and off? Thanks again.

    • @SkittyAnimates
      @SkittyAnimates  4 года назад

      There are many ways to do it, but the most common is to have smear controls built into the sword rig! I've also seen it done by duplicating the sword, or by drawing over the frame after the fact.

    Hi,
    Thank so much for great tutorials! Those are really clear and understandable.
    I got a question (it's out of topic I know). How could you solve IK / FK matching problem? are you using any kind of plugin for that or there is any other way to that? I am really struggling with this problem and it still continuous!

    • @SkittyAnimates
      @SkittyAnimates  4 года назад +1

      Hi there, sorry I missed your comment!
      IK/FK matching is quite a pain. Personally I use an in-house IK/FK switch tool from the studio I work at. I've been meaning to test out some free ones to review on the channel for you guys but haven't gotten to it yet 😣
      I do recommend finding an IK/FK switch plugin, it will save a lot of headaches!

      @@SkittyAnimates Thank you for the reply.
      Yes it is a real pain. I am still looking for a plugin or script but could not find anything yet.
      Please let me know whether you can share the one you use in the studio you work in or it is kind of trademarked thing you cannot share it?

    • @SkittyAnimates
      @SkittyAnimates  4 года назад +1

      I wish I could share it because it's a very reliable tool, but alas, it's company property and can't be distributed 😔

      Since I am new in animation, I faced another problem which I have no idea how to fix it and thought you may know a way to solve that. I have a character on which left hand's IK animation in 24 fps, works fine but when I switch to 60 fps, hand's animation breaks down! Do you know how to fix this issue?
      Here is link to video, please focus on left hand:

    do you know how to duplicate the part of character body's for 3D animation in maya?

    • @SkittyAnimates
      @SkittyAnimates  4 года назад +1

      You would either have to import or reference a second copy of the rig into your scene, then make the parts you don't want duplicated invisible (just add a completely transparent texture).

    • @SkittyAnimates

      Sword trails are typically done using squash and stretch controls built into the swords rig :)

      Ah, sorry I misunderstood the question. That would be added afterwards in an editing software. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe this is done during the animation stage.

      Depending on the style you want to achieve, most "Swoshes" as they are called are achieved by mixing 3D with 2D. Rendering the 3D scene, taking it into your prefered 2D Software (Toonboom, TVPaint ect) and traditionally animate over it.
      Swoshes in 3D can also be rather easily made by modelling the general shape of the swosh (a flattened pyramid for example) then putting a curve in the middle of it and connecting them via a curve deformer. After you move the curve so the swosh starts where it should and parent it to the controller that drives the sword. You then can use the curve you made to controll the shape of the swosh. What is also often seen is that people use a ramp texture to drive opacity so the swosh fades out the further away it gets from the sword.
