    I believe Daisy belongs with her husband too but, not in a romantic sense. Not like "oh look how cute they are" but how they easily discard people like yesterday's fashion and cover up the tracks with their money. As the quote near the end says "Tom and Daisy are careless people" and although Gatsby was no exception i believe he deserved a better ending.

      Poor Gatsby couldn’t see that she was in love with her husband. In my opinion, she never wanted anything serious with Gatsby. I feel like she just wanted to make Tom pay for how he treated her in the past. The minute he promised to treat her better, she left Gatsby and didn’t look back.

      I think the kind of love that is an obsession with a person, is not really about love at all. It is about loving an image that you have in your head, being devotional not to that person but to that image. You are obsessed with someone, because you obv. Admire him/her but that is to satisfy a part of you that is unsatisfied, this kind of love is selfish because it is about self pleasure. It is about gaining the approval of the other, trying to fill a void that you have within you. So people should stop romantizing obsession, because it is a way to self love through the acceptance of the other at the end of the day and its not the romanticism that makes you climb mountains for this particular human being, it is the approval you need from them, the love you need from them that will make you feel satisfied. This is a selfish love and this was gatsby's love. So people should stop blaming daisy for choosing Tom (her kids' father). gatsby's love was never about daisy but more about himself.

    If Tom didn't feel anything for Daisy he would have left her long ago, and it goes the same for Daisy. Even when she had her chance with Gatsby she still couldn't let Tom go. Tom and Daisy are each other's safe havens when the world gets too loud and out of their control. It's love, but it's a sad love, a love that will never truly get fulfilled.

  • @stuggie7881

    The different beliefs of love are interesting to analyze. Gatsby believed in soulmates, and he thought Daisy would reciprocate, which of course she didn’t. That I believe is his downfall, not the failure to realize the passage of time. If she had believed Gatsby was her soulmate, they would have ended up together.

    • @bluebell8557
      @bluebell8557  3 года назад +3

      I’m interested to know what you think daisy’s belief of love is. If Gatsby believed in soul mates, what about Daisy? How did she see love?

    • @stuggie7881
      @stuggie7881 3 года назад +12

      @@bluebell8557 That’s pretty complicated. I think Daisy’s belief in love changed from the time she met Gatsby to the plot’s present. She probably had a view of love where she wanted to be with someone that was a good fit for her back then (though not to the extreme of soulmates). She definitely loved Gatsby more when she got married looking at how she reacted the day of her wedding to that letter. You can argue that Gatsby didn’t take into account how Daisy had changed over time as his failure to realize the passage of time (his traditionally-attributed flaw), but to me her belief of love is a function of time along with other variables.
      During the plot’s time period, Daisy's belief in love probably changed to where she would’ve wanted to just be with someone with more stability after experiencing more of life. She knew Tom had been unfaithful all along, but since she saw how Gatsby had made his fortune, she decided it was just probably easier to stay with Tom even though it was clear Gatsby was more devoted to her than Tom was over those five years. It seems pretty clear that Gatsby’s view of Daisy being his soulmate never changed over those five years.
      I saw in another reply of yours where you say you had plenty of evidence showing if Tom hadn’t been unfaithful, Daisy would have never cheated on him with Gatsby. Just curious to hear what those moments are.

    • @bluebell8557
      @bluebell8557  3 года назад +8

      @@stuggie7881 oh no I meant that there's plenty of proof that Daisy actually loved Tom and isn't planning on leaving him. Here's my interpretation: Daisy loved Tom, maybe even saw him as a soul mate. I truly believe Daisy loved Tom more than she loved Gatsby. Daisy Loved Tom and that's why she married him "I've never seen a girl so in love with her husband" but she turned on him after Tom turned out to be unfaithful and had a woman "in New York". Also, in the garden, after Gatsby tells her they need to tell Tom, she says this: "remember how much fun we had? I don't know why we can't just have fun like that again" that line always struck me. It showed that all she was looking for was a good time and to feel wanted. Another scene that really struck me was the confrontation scene. While Gatsby was going off "she never loved anyone but me" and "she never loved you", Daisy is terribly quiet. Not saying a single word. No one comes close to Tom in her eyes, not even Gatsby.
      The reason I believe she wouldn't have cheated was because its obvious she married Tom for love, not money. So she would have no reason to cheat because she would've been happy. This is proven because she leaves Gatsby as soon as Tom tells her "he'll take better care of her from now on" and "let me take care of things". This leads me to believe that if he initially treated her better, she would have been more than happy with him and wouldn't need to seek love and acceptance and fun from someone else.

      @@bluebell8557 Those are some good points. It’s been a while since I saw the movie, and a REALLY long time since I read the book, so I’ve been basing my analysis on the movie. To me, her reaction to Gatsby’s letter the day of her wedding showed that she probably preferred Gatsby over Tom. Does “preferring to marry” really mean being more in love? Not necessarily. On top of that it’s hard to compare Daisy’s feelings for Tom vs. her feelings for Gatsby because I don’t think Daisy and Gatsby knew each other for a long time when they first met five years before. Daisy and Tom clearly had spent much more time together, 4+ years up to the plot’s time period, so in that sense she loved him more because they were able to develop their relationship much more deeply. Gatsby seems to be that ex or that gut feeling about someone you’ve met that you thought had great potential, but it just didn’t work out in the end.

    • @bluebell8557

      @@stuggie7881 yesss exactlyyy. I think by that time when she received the letter maybe she did love Gatsby more but by the time they started their affair, I think she was more in love with Tom. Probably because of the reasons you’ve mentioned. Time and all that.

    daisy kinda manipulated gatsby, she wanted to be with him in some sort of sense to get away from the control that is her husband, but it didn't last very long. they were never really made for each other since they were both cheating (both of them were pretty selfish) as shown here. i honestly don't think she should be with anyone but she doesn't have that sense of independency so erm idk. but i loved the video despite my opinion being different from yours. i love the song choice as well.

That relationship can never be anything other than toxic if Tom doesn’t actually change his ways and stop cheating.

      Daisy would never leave Tom, even if she wasn't Catholic. And she wasn't selfish; her reputation would've been ruined. And that would reflect back on her daughter. So, she took the crumbs Tom threw at her. If it wasn't for her daughter, I think she would've chanced it.
      Also, I hope Daisy was pregnant from her affair with Gatsby. And Gatsby's son would have inherited Tom's fortune. Serves Buchanan right.

      For sure!! I think they both loved each other very much! I think he’s just one of those guys who can’t stick to one woman and Daisy isn’t the kind of girl to overlook something like that. As for Daisy and Gatsby, she only went to him to make Tom pay. I truly believe that if Tom wasn’t unfaithful, Daisy would have never cheated on him with Gatsby. They hint that fact quite repeatedly in the movie and book actually. That she doesn’t actually love Gatsby and she isn’t planning on leaving Tom. My video tries to highlight those moments when their love for each other really shows in the movie. I especially love the moment when Tom realises he’s won “ please Tom I can’t stand it anymore” and runs out of the room while Gatsby stands and begs for her.
