Shou Tucker also made his daughter believe that her mom pretty much abandoned her and wasn't contacting her since he told her that she left because he wasn't successful/rich as a state alchemist. Plus, he burnt the letters Nina wrote to her mom and pretty much made it seem like her mom didn't want anything to do with her since she never got a reply. For that reason, he was already being a horrible dad before he turned his daughter into a science experiment. Not to mention that in the 2003 series, he then keeps making knockoff Ninas that probably don't have a pleasant existence, which means he's watching them suffer and die, but keeps making them anyway. PLUS by trying to make a replacement, it seems like he views his daughter as replaceable, especially since I seem to remember him saying that he was going to make a Nina even better than the original. That's why I'd put him higher or the list. Nina deserved better.
James’ parents should’ve made the actual list. They forced him to marry Jessiebelle after finding him writing a love letter to her when he was young, faked their own deaths to trick their son into coming back home to marry Jessiebelle, and as revealed in the XY episode “Mending A Broken Spirit” it is revealed that James’ mother threw away his prized bottle cap collection which he probably spent years assembling. Seriously they should actually be on the list.
Personally I kind of feel like Enji Todoroki aka Endeavor from My Hero Academia would be a good candidate for this list -Only married Shoto's mother for her quirk -Imposed harsh training on Shoto -The fact that Endeavor only considers Shoto a tool who could potentially usurp All Might's Title as the Number 1 Hero

I think something that twists the knife even further with the number 1 is that their son, Hayate is such a good kid. He's friendly, kind and selfless. He's the kind of person you DON'T want bad things like that happening to.
One reason that Goku did NOT make this list is that, unlike the parents mentioned here, he doesn't have the capacity to choose to be a better parent even if he wanted to. Even without the brain damage he suffered as an infant that may or may not have affected his ability to feel empathy, Low-class Saiyans don't have a brooding instinct in any way, shape, or form. They send their children off to fight as soon as they are born and don't even really have families. His father Bardock having a single, long-term mate was extremely unusual by Saiyan standards. This is actually why Vegeta is, in most circumstances, a better parent than Goku even though he is a colder, less moral person. The Saiyan royal family had a tradition of the father raising and bonding with the son, ergo Vegeta understands far better than Goku how important it is to children, especially male children, to have an active father-figure in their lives.
I can agree with this fully. Goku sadly can't learn to be a good parent, but atleast he loves his sons unlike the assholes in the video and all the asshole parents that were created since then.

Yes, she certainly deserves at least a dishonourable mention. She physically beat him, not for misbehaving, but for not performing up to her standards. He wore long sleeve shirts to cover the bruises. She used him to attempt to achieve the dream she couldn't achieve for herself. He took the abuse because he believed that if he played well enough, his mother would get well again, and she let him believe that. When she died, he believed it was his fault, and that he was a failure. She was a real tool.

Let me explain why: His dad FORCED a marriage with his wife JUST cause he wants to make a strong child to become the new #1 hero. He forced his wife to make children, but every time he ends up with a weak child and he did not care about them, so his wife had to take care of ALL of them. Her father ignored her while her mother was obsessed with turning her into the perfect being. That torture led Yuno herself to become a yandere who set her sights on Yuki Amano.

regarding #1, i don't get how that's supposed to be "comedic." Like, Robyn said the show is a comedy, but those circumstances....how is it ever funny when an innocent person is so beat down and taken advantage of? It reminds me of the running "joke" involving Dick Gumshoe's salary cuts in Ace Attorney; might be funny the first time (or i imagine there is SOME situation in which it could be momentarily amusing), but after a while it just becomes sad and pathetic, but not on Gumshoe's part....on EDGEWORTH'S (and by extension anyone else who does it to him, like Franzy to some degree).

How about Saki Arima from Your Lie in April? That is a fairly good example of a realistic terrible mother. Maybe not top ten worthy on this kind of list, but definitely an example of bad mothering and one that can have a point while being well integrated in the story. Most people don't have mothers that are super geniuses who clone armies or fathers who create chimeras, but there are plenty of controlling, abusive seemingly well intentioned parents who traumatize their children and force their dreams on them in a selfish manner while acting like it is for the good of the child.
I completely agree. The worst part is, it's hard to tell if she ever cared for her son or if he was simply being used to fulfill his mother's dream of fame. In addition, she is completely blind to the point of music: a form of self-expression. In the words of the anime her son was taught to be nothing more than than a slave to the sheet music.

Jose Cocco I can see your point, but I am surprised you would have such an easy time overlooking such severe mental and physical abuse. I am pretty sure if I brought the subject up as a hypothetical you would advocating for Child Protective Services to be called. Unless you think abusers just sit in basements and think up ways to torture small animals, most who commit abuse have some good intent or excuse for their behaviors, but what matters is the effect it has. This kid was beaten and mentally abused with his mother turning his childish desires against him, their relationship scarring him and his memories and relationships with others, and his self image entirely based around the piano which he became unable to play because of her. It is an anime so happenstance and good people around him helped him along the path we all hoped for, but it is a very realistic situation and one that doesn't always go so well. Saki Arima is about as far away from my idea of a good mother as one can be without drowning him in a bathtub whatever her intent and whether she did or did not actually love him.

Also again I have to mention this. She was dying as a single mother. I can't even imagine that form of pressure. The Amazing World of Japa The problem with that arc is that everyone acted like 7 months had gone by, not 7 years. NO landlord would hold on to a valuable piece of property for 7 years in the hopes the tenant would come back. They'd get a new fucking tenant. Fairy Tail wouldn't spend 7 years in the hole, it's not like Natsu and Erza are the only strong people in the guild. They'd have the support of their allies, on top of that. They wouldn't get chased out like they supposedly were. And 7 years of depression because his idol supposedly died? That's bullshit. Yes, it's sad, but after a year you realize that life goes on. You don't sit there doing nothing because someone you looked up to died seven fucking years ago. You might still cry a bit when you think about them 7 years later, but you don't sit in a dark cloud of emo that entire time, pretending he'll come back from the dead. The entire arc was stupid and unrealistic. After a couple years go by, any normal parent would accept the fact that their child might actually be dead, and not waste 7 years worth of rent on an empty apartment. They'd take their child's things from the apartment and store them. After 5 or 6 years, probably sell the kid's stuff. Did Mirajane and her brother hold on to everything for 7 years and pretend Lisanna was coming back? No. They handled it like normal, real people would and accept that she was dead. The only purpose that arc served was to make Romeo old enough to be a wizard. That's literally it. That was the only thing that changed.

Shou Tucker also made his daughter believe that her mom pretty much abandoned her and wasn't contacting her since he told her that she left because he wasn't successful/rich as a state alchemist. Plus, he burnt the letters Nina wrote to her mom and pretty much made it seem like her mom didn't want anything to do with her since she never got a reply. For that reason, he was already being a horrible dad before he turned his daughter into a science experiment. Not to mention that in the 2003 series, he then keeps making knockoff Ninas that probably don't have a pleasant existence, which means he's watching them suffer and die, but keeps making them anyway. PLUS by trying to make a replacement, it seems like he views his daughter as replaceable, especially since I seem to remember him saying that he was going to make a Nina even better than the original.
That's why I'd put him higher or the list. Nina deserved better.

I think something that twists the knife even further with the number 1 is that their son, Hayate is such a good kid. He's friendly, kind and selfless. He's the kind of person you DON'T want bad things like that happening to.
One reason that Goku did NOT make this list is that, unlike the parents mentioned here, he doesn't have the capacity to choose to be a better parent even if he wanted to. Even without the brain damage he suffered as an infant that may or may not have affected his ability to feel empathy, Low-class Saiyans don't have a brooding instinct in any way, shape, or form. They send their children off to fight as soon as they are born and don't even really have families. His father Bardock having a single, long-term mate was extremely unusual by Saiyan standards.
This is actually why Vegeta is, in most circumstances, a better parent than Goku even though he is a colder, less moral person. The Saiyan royal family had a tradition of the father raising and bonding with the son, ergo Vegeta understands far better than Goku how important it is to children, especially male children, to have an active father-figure in their lives.

I love this comment. I watched evangelion a few years back, and I felt for shinji. He had the most awful, disgusting parent. And everytime he told someone how awful his dad was? They’d say he’s complaining, ungrateful, and selfish. I’m watching this show and just baffled by everyone. He has trust issues because his dad was mia for 16 years?! He has a right to be cautious and wary of people because his dad never showed an iota of love for him once the mom died. No cards, or phone call until the second impact.

Yes, she certainly deserves at least a dishonourable mention. She physically beat him, not for misbehaving, but for not performing up to her standards. He wore long sleeve shirts to cover the bruises. She used him to attempt to achieve the dream she couldn't achieve for herself. He took the abuse because he believed that if he played well enough, his mother would get well again, and she let him believe that. When she died, he believed it was his fault, and that he was a failure. She was a real tool.

Finally they managed to make a good one (Shoto), so instead of raising him like a good father, he tortures him to get stronger when he was 5 YEARS OLD!!! His mom tries to help her son when he was sad and when his dad was not around, Shoto would cry and hug his mom and say “I-I don’t want to be like him!.. I don’t want to be like someone who bullies you all the time mama!..”. So one morning, Shoto went to the kitchen to eat breakfast, he noticed his mom was talking to someone and boiling water was.. well.. boiling.. and he was hiding behind the wall and overheard the conversation.. and this is what he herd: “Ugh.. I can’t raise him anymore, I just want to runaway from his life, his left side is unbearable all I can see is his father...” and Shoto said: “M-Mama....” And she turns to him, takes the boiling water that she was preparing for her tee and THREW IT ON TO HIS FACE!!!

regarding #1, i don't get how that's supposed to be "comedic." Like, Robyn said the show is a comedy, but those circumstances....how is it ever funny when an innocent person is so beat down and taken advantage of? It reminds me of the running "joke" involving Dick Gumshoe's salary cuts in Ace Attorney; might be funny the first time (or i imagine there is SOME situation in which it could be momentarily amusing), but after a while it just becomes sad and pathetic, but not on Gumshoe's part....on EDGEWORTH'S (and by extension anyone else who does it to him, like Franzy to some degree).

How about Saki Arima from Your Lie in April? That is a fairly good example of a realistic terrible mother. Maybe not top ten worthy on this kind of list, but definitely an example of bad mothering and one that can have a point while being well integrated in the story. Most people don't have mothers that are super geniuses who clone armies or fathers who create chimeras, but there are plenty of controlling, abusive seemingly well intentioned parents who traumatize their children and force their dreams on them in a selfish manner while acting like it is for the good of the child.
I completely agree. The worst part is, it's hard to tell if she ever cared for her son or if he was simply being used to fulfill his mother's dream of fame. In addition, she is completely blind to the point of music: a form of self-expression. In the words of the anime her son was taught to be nothing more than than a slave to the sheet music.

It is an anime so happenstance and good people around him helped him along the path we all hoped for, but it is a very realistic situation and one that doesn't always go so well. Saki Arima is about as far away from my idea of a good mother as one can be without drowning him in a bathtub whatever her intent and whether she did or did not actually love him.

Fairy Tail wouldn't spend 7 years in the hole, it's not like Natsu and Erza are the only strong people in the guild. They'd have the support of their allies, on top of that. They wouldn't get chased out like they supposedly were.
And 7 years of depression because his idol supposedly died? That's bullshit. Yes, it's sad, but after a year you realize that life goes on. You don't sit there doing nothing because someone you looked up to died seven fucking years ago. You might still cry a bit when you think about them 7 years later, but you don't sit in a dark cloud of emo that entire time, pretending he'll come back from the dead.
The entire arc was stupid and unrealistic. After a couple years go by, any normal parent would accept the fact that their child might actually be dead, and not waste 7 years worth of rent on an empty apartment. They'd take their child's things from the apartment and store them. After 5 or 6 years, probably sell the kid's stuff.
Did Mirajane and her brother hold on to everything for 7 years and pretend Lisanna was coming back? No. They handled it like normal, real people would and accept that she was dead.
The only purpose that arc served was to make Romeo old enough to be a wizard. That's literally it. That was the only thing that changed.
