    Re: the kitchen sink. I prefer the single sink because you can split it with a basin if you want to, but you can’t un-divide it if you need a larger space for big bowls or pans.

    • @txshirle
      @txshirle 3 года назад +6

      Agreed. Plus, if you use a basin and you are boondocking, you can dump the contents of the basin into the toilet, thus utilizing the black tank's capacity, which for us never fills.

    • @preachers4135
      @preachers4135 3 года назад +4

      Exactly why I prefer the single nice large sink also! In minimalistic form, my drying rack doubles as the basin as it has a convenient drain plug to pop in & fits in 1/2 the sink.

    • @TheLakingc
      @TheLakingc 3 года назад +1

      I forgot that...definitely prefer a single sink...that does not leak!

    • @txshirle

      @@bgleadbetter Yes, but on occasion I like the soapy water from the basin to help clean the black tank. Not sure it helps though!

    One thing I noticed that I would somehow change is the gap on the hinge side of the bathroom door. Way too easy to see through to the bathroom through there.

    RE: On the washer/dryer, it would be a nice option if the doors opened then slid back in along the side of the washer/dryer so they were out of the way.

      There's only two things that I really don't like about that fifth wheel. The first one is why would you put a seat in the shower where there is bars coming down to put soap and stuff cuz anybody tall like my husband would not be able to sit there without having to bend over all the time or his head. The second thing is in the kitchen they have the TV so close to the stove that for some reason if you're frying anything then that grease is going to pop on that TV there should be some kind of like cabinet coming out to block that that you can put stuff in and the same time if the grease pops is going to go on your cabinets and not the TV. Other than that it's a great RV I would buy it if it had those changes.

      I would just want what Keystone is doing with their new models: just putting 2 battery/propane refrigerators together so you don’t need to worry about the food in the fridge once the battery cuts out

    • @seandgreen6686

      We did it with this model but it was challenging, there is not a lot of space to work with.

    You mentioned the floor vents. I love that some companies are not putting the vents in the floor where they collect dirt and get stepped on, but rather on the side of the kitchen island or bottom of a wall. I'm surprised all companies aren't doing this

    I LOVE this. We are getting ready to move into a camper full time. We love the mid bunk idea. Only thing i would change on this is have a true bunk bed in the bunkhouse for kiddos. We wouldn't need the couch or table.

  • @mull3915
    @mull3915 3 года назад +80

    I think you nailed the features you added, especially the coffee bar and pantry, very nice. The only thing I would add would be an additional 'molding' to the hinge side of the bathroom door when using the transom you added in the hallway. There is a very visible gap in the hinge side of the door that doesn't make it as private as you may want at times.

    • @jonahsmith4859
      @jonahsmith4859 3 года назад +1

      I think that has a gap there because typically people use the bathroom with the door shut on the bathroom itself not the whole room so it’s really a personal preference if you poop with the door open

    On the bathroom door....when it is open to close off the bedroom there is a gap on the left side that is pretty big. there needs to be a cover of some sort closing that off so the missus doesn't accidentally flash the guests. You can se it in this video when you pull the door toward the magnet to close off the bedroom.

    Two things I notice right off the bat is the island extension - love it. And the convertible bathroom door is something I have thought would make sense in a lot of plans so I am glad you went with this! Not digging the fasteners in the shower - maybe if they were color-matched they would blend in better.

    The ONLY thing keeping this from being PERFECT, is a retractable TV with a window behind it like the Grand design solitude mid bunk has. If the kids can't see the TV, they won't want the TV, and I'd rather have more light.
    We LOVE the flip out island and the threshold, nailed it, this is fantastic for full-timers

      I can't believe people still bother with TVs when projectors have come such a long way.
      This comunity seems to catch up as slow as molasses to certain advancements.
      Those types of Vents on the floor are a perfect example of being stuck in some wacky ways.

    Really like it. I think the loft seems a bit tight . I get claustrophobic looking at it, but overall looks wonderful. Very impressed with the washer /dryer in there too. That is a need when traveling.

    • @conniepayne591
      @conniepayne591 3 года назад +2

      They should put child size dolls in the loft so you would get an idea of how tall they were. To see if kids could sit up straight in them. Or else they could make them with raised roofs. Otherwise they are really nice and roomy and I like the television in them for the kids.

    Office. Office. Office. With the world finally catching up to the ability to work remotely, switch that mid-bunk to an office and you nailed it. I would also have a much larger bedroom TV installed, but that's a personal preference. Nice choices.

    The Azdel siding, the name says it all. Keep the nightstands, the darker trim with the muted color a plus, over all a very livable unit. The outside frig, an easy fix, just change the hinges to the other side. It will be interesting to read your review after the first couple of trips. Y'all have fun with this.

    You all did an amazing job! I love this unit. I particularly like the bunkbed above the bed bunk room. Even if you don’t have small kids to use it, you can use it as a great storage spot!
    The only things I would like to change is to have a gas line hook up near the outdoor kitchen. This way you can bring your own outdoor grill and just hook it up to the propane tanks in your camper.

  • @dedalliance1

    Hey BTBR I noticed they're still using those old crappy looking floor vent covers. I do custom hardwood floors for a living around Denver and we use what's called flushmount vents that we install as part of the floor and sand / stain it all as one thing. This only works with real wood because it's strong enough to stand by itself. But, they have options for the 'fake' laminate wood and engineered stuff and what not that they put in these campers. I never understood why these RV manufactures haven't switched to using these better vents because they're flush mount so it's a little nicer on the feet when walking over them and they look just like the floor. And I imagine it wouldn't be all that hard to upgrade yourself and play around with it and maybe pitch it as a standard feature to be added on the newer models to really separate them from other manufactures because I hear a lot of people complain about how ugly the vents are.
    Anyway, here's just a simple google imagine link to show you what I'm talking about and you can look into other brands and manufactures to see what might work or look the best but I really think it'd be a fairly inexpensive option for them to add from the factory.

    I like that you moved the access door for the bunk room to allow for the coffee bar and bigger pantry compared the regular 398MBl design. I always prefer that configuration in a mid-bunk floorplan so that the bunk room can be used during a travel stop without opening the kitchen/living slides. I love the giant countertop extension, and I think Coachmen could add it to quite a few floorplans.

    I agree 10/10. Love azdel walls, the storage, lots windows, the fact that you over rated the tires and suspension. No touch screens - good old proven switches, bedroom and bath are great. Great bedroom with end tables and plugs above valences (as that’s where we all place our phones anyways). Counter extension - genius!! You grabbed all the misses already - linen closet in bath, 60/40 sink. This is a winner!! They should produce this. My wife would be in line.
    Next you need to create the ultimate toy hauler that features all your great knowledge but let’s me take my RZR with me.

    First Blush..... I really like it. You and Coachman did a great job!. So many things that I can say I really like from the tires/brakes/suspension upgrades to the kitchen, master bed and bath. I really enjoy the exterior graphics and color scheme as well as the storage and wet bay. Just really thoughtfully done. So what we need to know is what something like this would cost from Coachman. Obviously the tires are over the top, so bring them back to tires that are more appropriate. Come to think of it, pull the generator, leave in the prep, leave in the washer/dryer prep, keep a tv in the living room and master. I'm in AZ, so lets keep the 3 AC's. Could Coachman give us an idea what it would go for??? Most of all congratulations to you and your family on your new RIG! It's been a long time coming and we're looking forward to your first trip video. Last but not least, I really enjoy your content. Please keep it coming.

Also I wanted to point out on your outside review, you forgot to show the amazing LED light strip on the connection side of the RV that you have been asking for. They need to incorporate that on every unit going forward.

    You can see into the bath room when the door is latched in the hall. I would definitely change that!
    I absolutely love the office theme instead of a bunk. I would leave the table and keep the couch and get rid of the higher bunk. Love, Love the desk!

    First, Congratulations!!! I know this has been a LONG time coming! Now since you asked and Coachman is one of 3 RVs on our retirement FT RV list, here ya go: If this were our RV I would take out all the carpet, have a televator, and a bigger sofa with no dinette especially with that huge flip up countertop. A major thing that I noticed, I would definitely want a door or some sort of coverage for all of those control panels.....right by the loft where the littlest kids might be and in the hallway to be seen and played with every time they use the bathroom in a no go for us. I agree with you about the storage in the bathroom being switched to the other side, my reasoning being then perhaps they could make it less deep and add some storage on the left side of the bed for c-pap users (which my husband is). Some sort of bedside storage I feel is necessary and is very lacking in RV layouts. As others have commented, the sink I would simply use a basin as I can add separation if needed but I can not remove it if it is there already. Not sure if these were covered in other comments but there you have it.

  • @terryhaynes1596
    @terryhaynes1596 3 года назад +1

    I appreciate everything you did. Only a few personal items I would like to see (preferences of course).
    A televator with a window behind it. Never have enough windows.
    The controls behind a door.
    I also have a basement slide tray. Mine goes out both ways. I think I would prefer two independent ones, one that goes out each side.
    Also would like a power cord reel for the 50amp cable. Mine has it and love it!
    Prefer armor plate on front of RV where rocks get thrown from truck and road.
    Prefer to not have any controls on the front of the generator compartment that are exposed to the weather. Always concerned that they would be damaged, but perhaps you have the experience that proves this isn’t an issue.
    Is there a factory option for a 3000w inverter (hybrid perhaps?).
    I have slipper springs, shocks, disc brakes, and double pane windows. As you said, wouldn’t leave home without them!
    Enough already.
    Thanks. Love your channel.

    I love everything about this unit would like it better if cabinets were offered in white , off white or grey. I also think that since the command center switches are in hallway and low on the wall would be nice if it was behind a cabinet door so little ones couldn't touch them so easily.

    Sorry, my bad. I'm still impressed even tho I can still see things that could be improved. I have a coachman RV travel trailer right now and am not impressed at all and have not been since the day we purchased it almost 4yrs ago, so for me to even stop and take a look at this Rig was a miracle. Keep up the good work.

    Really like that unit JD! Tires and suspension are top notch for sure. Mid-bunk office is awesome, albeit for me I could delete the upper bunk since I don't need it. I'm an "attached patio" guy so to make that unit "perfect" I'd add the dedicated patio like the Durango Gold mid-bunk (non-toy hauler) which deleted the rear sofa, adds 2 recliners, and the residential glass sliding door. Yep, for ME that would make it perfect! You can tell you're SO happy with this from how you sound. So awesome!

    On the kitchen, wife comments: excellent counter space especially the island pullout (opinion: all islands need that). But she comments big miss on the stove/0ven. She loves to see that huge 4 burner gas grill top & larger oven of the Insignia Range. Our next big unit, that's a must have. The office/spare room-Superb!

    I left a long comment on your other interior review (the walk-thru with the rep) so I won't re-write that here. I love most everything about this unit, I think you NAILED it!! Floor vent location & carpets in slides were my thumbs down. Switches need a door to protect from little fingers pushing them. Otherwise, love everything else inside & out!!

      Thanks again for commenting, Shawn! Duly noted on the vents. Carpet is the last line of defense for pebbles under the slide that can damage lino, but I completely understand why anyone would prefer without carpet. Appreciate your kind words!

    Congrats JD. No RV is perfect (even one you spec yourself). I’d prefer lighter shades, no top bunk in MB, and no carpets either. I guess these are common themes. Also, this is dually territory only. Too big for me. But it isn’t for me so you and your family enjoy it and many thanks for all your RUclips work.

    I'm a toy hauler guy, so I don't have a horse in the race as far as the majority of the specs go. It is a wonderful unit and perfect for a large family that doesn't need to haul ATV's. That being said, having a large family would seem to necessitate having a half bath in addition to the master bath. Most of the new toy haulers have managed to incorporate one into the "garage" area. Since that usually doubles as a second bedroom or living space, it is a nice addition to have in that location. It allows for whomever is sleeping in that area to use the restroom in the middle of the night without disturbing the occupants of the master bedroom. I'm not sure where one could fit in this kind of floorplan, but having the threshold to seperate the master suite is a moot point if all the kids (or other guests) have to use the master bathroom. It's actually my biggest gripe about my own toy hauler. It's an older model and there is no separation at all between the bathroom and bedroom other than a curtain. I suppose I can't complain too much considering I inherited the unit and didn't have any control over the specs. But, it is the one thing that will definitely be different on my next unit (if there is one).

    We have the 2021 398 MBL and live in it full time. Floor vents which were mentioned need to be reworked the collect dirt and get stepped on. Love what was done with the coffee island and the entry way to the MBR. Love the door for the bathroom, we’re currently achieving a similar purpose with a tension rod and curtain, the door is a way better solution. for the Bathroom cabinets pull out drawers and an extra shelf in the top would make them less cumbersome, We love the storage just wish it was more functional. On the exterior love the quick connect hose and the storage behind the fireplace. All in all good additions.

    You have your priorities straight. Must have coffee station. This is a really nice rig. I agree with others that the gap in the door area of the master bedroom would make it feel not so private. Night stands are a must. Need a spot to set my coffee down. I don't see the need for a zillion Tv's on a vacation. But to each their own. So far I Love this.

    I am a disabled heavy equipment HDT mechanic ! I know a lot of people are just using set up like this to live full time as their homes . the things I have heard from a lot of people is that they are shaking in high wind storms on your slide outs why dont they use some drop down hyd ram on all the slide outs just to give it a biger foot print and have a skirting package that they can lower and lock in place to stop the wind from getting under it . And as far as the water line use 2 kinds summer and winter it being heavy insolated thermal hose that wrap that heats the spigot at the same time. And a lot of rv places have sewer but they do not want you to dump your tank due to smell you could make a 4 ft one way vent valve and a S trap that would only suck air in and close after the dump . The other is they have problems with the slidouts weather barrier not lasting long and it leaking and last theye wish they would put a truck air scale gauge so they dont over load it while camping I dont think that would be that hard to install some may have them now . I know if I were to build one the first thing is to put a 5th wheel set up like a yard dog where i could get the clearance to turn around and not damage my truck and trailer and I would put a dolly axel that I could lower so not to rip off the back of the tralor when driving up into some parks as a wrecker driver I dont know how many time I heard them say I was told my tralor would fit but if the had that set up they would not damage there investment . food for thought

    I think your idea of moving the cabinets in the bath room to the right side of the shower is a good idea. Then you could make access to the rear portion by putting cabinet doors in the bedroom. You could even put a CPAP in there.

    Big Truck Big RV + 1.) Remove all carpet for ease of cleaning the flooring, 2.) Add vented range hood, 3.) Place heat vents at the toe kick area in the center island instead of in the floor, 4.) 60/40 split sink with low divide wall, 5.) Dining table with lift up for extra storage and chairs with under seat storage, 6.) Add a pop up or slide up for the upper bunk area for added air flow and more upright seating room. 7.) Bathroom door does not provide complete privacy when looking to the left into the bathroom there is a viewable gap looing into the bathroom that needs to be sealed as part of the door / jamb, along with added sound privacy lengthening the bottom of the door to the floor & to the ceiling. 8.) Is there an option for a U shape dinette that can turn into a bed? 9.) The pop up extension on the kitchen mid island: Could that be a slide out instead of a swing up? 10.) Can there be an swing up or slide out extension running the length of the kitchen island to extend it's use for bar stool style seating or additional desk / socializing dinner area?

    I think you guys nailed it! Inside and out. I think this would be great selling product. This is probably my most favorite mid bunk RV.
    I like the little night stands by the bed. I would stay away from the wing night stands that go up into the slide box. But the ability to set something on that little night stand would be advantageous. I think that it should become a standard for this product line.
