- We live in an age where remasters and remakes, of all our favrourite games, are being released, regularly, on modern consoles. This is not only a great way to re-experience the games we grew up with, all those years ago, but also to introduce these classics to those who never got a chance to play them.
However, there are certain JRPGs out there, that are stuck in the past.
This video is going to count down the top 10 standalone JRPG titles, that have been lost in time, that are not accessible on modern hardware.
The list!
01:19: Threads of Fate
02:20: Lost Odyssey
03:15: Brave Fencer Musashi
04:17: Digital Devil Saga
05:50: Folklore
08:50: Vagrant Story
07:55: The Last Story
09:05: Radiata Story
10:07: Skies of Arcadia
11:21: Xenogears
💬 Also, I'd love to know what thought about the list!

I just replayed Xenogears last month with my 17-year-old son… It simply blew his mind and his socks off. It easily became his favorite game off all time.
He wants a full disc 2 so badly
Awesome list! Skies of Arcadia is truly one of a kind, love that game.
I'd definitely add Radiant Historia, such a masterpiece of a game 👍🏼
One of my favorites was Eternal Sonata. It's a 360 jrpg about Frederic Chopin, who is dreaming the story of the game on his deathbed as he was dying of tuberculosis. Nobody talks about it anymore, but it's one of the few games that moved me to tears when I played it. It appropriately has a phenomenal piano based soundtrack too
So underrated. It came out for the PS3 as well.
@@redstratus97 I didn't know that. It's such a great game. There are so many missed opportunities and forgotten gems from that period
Lost Odyssey is great but to be fair you can play it on the Xbox One or Xbox Series consoles via backwards compatibility, it’s even available to purchase digitally on said consoles
Hey, stop it, allow him to cook. Rules don't matter. You're gonna get in the way of the list of games I plan to play when I'm retired 😼
Maybe even before I'm retired if I can squeeze in some free time.
Looks like I missed that one. Cheers
I have it on ps5 lol might be a ps4 port version but id have to look, but it went on sale a while back and me and the bros got it to try out.
Suikoden II music! Great list. Happy to see thread's of fate, Musashi, and Radiata Stories.
Skies of Arcadia mention!
I own and have played this entire list and I give this list two thumbs up! I hope more people try these!
Radiata Stories was definitely an unappreciated gem, but Square Enix had tri-Ace develop it simply to test how well the PS2 could handle numerous functions and routines, such as the multiple characters' daily schedules. While the game was nothing more than an experiment on their part, it was still quite enjoyable, especially with all the teams you could put together among the many allies to recruit. Sadly, it left behind a lot of unresolved narrative threads and it's unlikely we'll ever see them addressed. Jack and Ridley did make appearances in both Star Ocean Anamnesis (as recruitable allies, but only in the Japanese version) as well as collectable figurines in Star Ocean: The Divine Force. Seems like Square Enix only marginally remembers Radiata Stories existed once.
Some of Team Radiata's members still work today as part of their own created company, Aiming, and they released an MMO called Caravan Stories some years back. It definitely has Radiata Stories's DNA all over it, with its numerous races, lots of characters to recruit, legendary dragons, and the overall feel to the world of Iyarr. The game is plagued with numerous issues that still persist to this day, but for what it's worth, it's the closest thing we have to a spiritual successor for Radiata Stories. Unfortunately, the global version is set to shut down on March 12 next year, so the Radiata spirit is going to be lost to time again in a few months.
Eternal Sonata rules! Thanks for the video 😄
Omg I love Brave Fencer Musashi!!! It was like if Kirby was an rpg! I had a demo collection disc with it on there and would always play through the opening stages, which included getting the sword and fighting the mecha knight, or going up the mountain and collecting logs. When I finally got the full game, I was really shocked at how much more the game had to offer, from time changes, the town, and such.
I actually named an OC after the sword, Lumina
Nice list. I still think it’s a crime that the entire Xenosaga trilogy is still locked to the PS2. Those 3 were great!
Gungnir on PSP is one of the most unknown but fun rpg I have played.
Skies of arcadia is one i always wanted more of and loved the airships battles.
Great list, thx for doing this. Esp the inclusion of Last Story, absolutely wonderful game / experience, agree that's a must play. Also never heard of Folklore before, will look into it. Some games I think you left out:
Legend of Dragoon
*Panzer Dragoon Saga
Eternal Sonata
*Radiant Historia
* = must play. Honorable mention to Resonance of Fate, game's not great but probably one of the most unique games ever created
I was orignnally going to include Legend of Dragoon as number 2, but it was released on the PS store.
@@HellFireRPGs Hey you're right! Thanks for the response, honestly didn't know. Dragoon for $9.99 (US) is a more than fair price. Also after verifying, Resonance of Fate is on the PS4 store also ($34.99). Radiant Historia and Panzer Dragoon Saga still must plays, Eternal Sonata also worth playing as well
Been meaning to get around to them. Thanks for the suggestions.
A must remaster/remake list if I ever saw one! Anything with Lost Odyssey on it always gets me pumped. A FF in everything but name!
Great list man! There's a few on here I'd love to play, and I'm actually gonna make the effort to finally get into Xenogears this week!
There are so many great games i can think of that have been forgotten, but getting a Xenogears remake with all the content they left out would almost make up for losing the others.
*Skies of Arcadia and Xenogears mention*
Great list! I'd also add Brave Story:New Traveler, White Knight Chronicles (well if you included SMTDDS 1&2 then WKC 1&2 are eligible for the list too right? :p) and Fragile Dreams.
I come wielding Xenogears itself, and I say that while Xenosaga *can* be an interpretation of the events Episode 1 of Xenogears, it is not directly. Instead being a spiritual sequel with overlapping story elements.
What is the background music starting at 1:20? I know I've heard it before but can't remember where.
I think its from Suikoden 1 or 2
Yes, it's from Suikoden II, the song is Reminiscence
@@bobsagetluvr1 Thanks! That was such a good game. I haven't played it in about 20 years.
Vagrant Story starts in 6:47
I'd love a remaster or remake of Legend of Legaia from the PS1 such an underrated gem!
nice vid
Great list! Honestly, we get so many surprises these days you never know if some of these will get a remaster!
Loved lost odyssey. I think Blue Dragon is also a great standalone RPG by mist Walker
Can you fix the timestamp error for the last title in the description at 11:21? There's a spacing gap there.
Anything for you.
Xenogears and Vagrant Story still have bit of chance for comeback (SE releases lot of ports/remasters).
Others... I doubt it.
if Square cant remake/remaster Parasite Eve in the renaissance of survival horror games, I dont think xg and VS have any chance.
@@Mion446 eh, it's all the same for SE.
If it's not FF, DQ (and sometimes SaGa or Mana), it's just a basic remaster tier.
I think the only reason is I don’t care is wouldn’t be considered to be remake and why it hasn’t been it because Takahashi is no longer with one and has a continuing Xeno series. So it’s very muddy. I also think there’s a lot of baggage with how they felt the Xenogears was supported and why they left Square after. Then there’s the fact that Takahashi’s company is owned by Nintendo. Historically Nintendo Square have not had a good relationship, but things seem to have gotten better so you never know!
Emulation is one hell of a thing, I’ll say this though, I wouldn’t be able to play half of these games if it weren’t for emulators 😊
Legend of dragoon?
Is xenogears getting a remaster?
Radiant historia would have been my top pick
So many classics…
E M U
Should not even feel shame
No Resonance of Fate/ End of Eternity?
Resonance of fate was remastered so it didn't make the list. Great game, though
Xenogears needs a remaster. It's unplayable due to its slow unskippable text.
Operation Darkness
Meh, young gamers talking about forgotten jrpg or rpgs lost to time... at same time oldest title he can get is a ps1.
So many nes, snes titles lost to time crystalis, the guardian legend, destiny of an emperor. Nes, lufia, robotrek, 7th saga snes.
Young gamers are clueless
Thanks gramps
@@HellFireRPGs honestly it's kinda a nudge if you like finding good games try a few. May find enjoyment in a few games you never heard of or played and expand your viewerbase.
Technically I grew up with an Atari 2600 controller in my hand at age 4, but to few games that would be relevant today.
@@sagepirotess6312 I mean ALOT of us who were raised in the 90's thru the early 00's grew up playing NES/SNES too, My family was always a console or two behind. SNES released, We just got an NES, PS1 released, And we just got an SNES. And like yeah you're not wrong, There are plenty of GREAT 8-bit & 16-bit games that seem forgotten about these days, But dude, PS1 came out just a few years later after the SNES, They aren't THAT far apart. And while there are some fantastic RPGs from the 8-16 bit era, Truth is the PS1 era is THE golden era of JRPGs. Sure there are tons on the NES/SNES, But c'mon man, When doing a video like this, You can't act like bro's somehow lacking knowledge as a gamer just cause he landed on mainly PlayStation era JRPGs. It's a top ten list, And as far as forgotten, QUALITY JRPGs go, These picks are valid AF. Sorry but even tho there's slept on SNES RPGs like the Lufia, Paladins Quest, Breath Of Fire 1&2, Illusions Of Gaia, They aren't on the same level of top tier for their console as forgotten games like Xenogears, Vagrant Story & Skies Of Arcadia are for their respective consoles.
Ah, Brave Fencer Mushashi. You took me back down memory lane. Great video.
