  • Zac Posen is a designer who has been dressing celebrities like Rihanna, Beyonce, and Joey King for years, but unfortunately, he has closed his business. This has shocked many, and so I thought it best to explain why this happened, but also thought it was important to look at Zac's history as well as his most memorable red carpet dresses!

    Zac shutting down his company is a testament to how far the fashion industry has fallen. An industry that used to be highly coveted for creating unique pieces and setting the trends has now fallen to following trends and pandering to what 14 year olds and basic RUclipsrs want. I'm tired of the slides, the sock shoes, the basic ass skater tee's, and the musical chairs of creative directors. Commercialism has ruined fashion. I'd rather put my all into my brand and create pieces I'm proud of and make less money than to pander and put my name on products I don't believe in just for a dollar.

    Although I've truly marveled Zac's skill and sophistication, doing haute couture in America was bound to fail. Haute couture ALWAYS loses money - wherever it's done. However, France sees it as part of it's cultural heritage and actually supports the fashion houses that do it. In return, these fashion houses MUST follow the laws that define what couture is and how it's constructed. Some of these include that construction must be done completely by hand and can be as detailed as dictating parameters regarding hand-stitching such as stitch length and stitches per inch! These laws are strictly regulated and fashion houses found not adhering to these laws lose state funding. America, sadly, simply doesn't see the value in art and culture. We haven't learned yet (we are the toddlers of the world at 250 years old after all) that it is the essence of humanity. Unfortunately, artificial intelligence will likely drive this point home.
    Zac is too talented to stay down for long. And if it means selling some bottle of fragrance to enable his vision to become reality then so be it. This is a rare case of the ends justifying the means.
    Great video!

      Emilia but these dresses just look amazing and tailored really well. And yeah i guess if you want to be succsesfull you have to care about bags and stuff.

    • @biabri7471
      @biabri7471 4 года назад

      Emilia me neither. And yes i do expect something extravagant if i am buying a luxury bag. I do collect them and i don‘t have that much money either. I would rather invest in something well made and special than in something with the logo written on it. I think you have to be strategic as a designer. You have to pay attention to not only the fashion itself, but also to the bag design. I totally agree with you on that point.

    If I were a venture capitalist with the money, I’d revive the House of Charles James with Zac at the helm of the atelier. I’d also hire an accessories designer and Jewelry designer to collaborate with him on creating sellable products Even if you don’t have a single garment for sale, the business could still probably survive if you treat the atelier like a publicity generator. Create red carpet looks and fashion shows to frame the jewelry and shoes and handbags.

  • @ZoraTheberge
    @ZoraTheberge 4 года назад +38

    I think there’s this idea that to be a “serious designer” things like diffusions, accessories, and cosmetics are cheating and distract from the Art of running an Atelier. But that’s the bread and butter of any fashion business. Chanel sells more quilted handbags than tweed jackets. Zac should have invested in handbags and cosmetics and costume jewelry that followed his brand ethos. He truly is the best contemporary American Designer

  • @flor8567
    @flor8567 4 года назад +1

    Zac was one of the few who actually cared to see celebrities look good down the red carpet and he cared about the Met Gala themes, all because he still sees fashion for what it is: art. We're mourning Zac Posen for a year like Victorian-era children did for their parents.

    Thanks Luke for such an in depth look at Zac Posen career and line! Yes, the arena of the Haute Couture Lines in USA have had a very hard time surviving. Zac dressed many celebrities but not all celebrities purchase the gowns wore at Red Carpets so although his brand got a lot of hype in the end it boils down to money. Then again we don't know the future so everything is possible and in the most unimagined ways too. Thanks for a great channel dedicated to Fashion!

      fresh B except that they didn’t do well in that market because it is not his demographic. Instead, the majority had to be marked down devaluing his brand and creating a loss of profit. There’s nothing wrong with being affordable to the masses if that’s your brand. There’s nothing wrong with being a luxury brand with price tags that reflect the quality and exclusivity of your talent either. Stay triggered (and uneducated clearly) by comments on the internet though ;)

    From what I've heard Claire Danes' Hot ass husband, aka Hugh Dancy is one of the nicest celeb around. Also, I've always loved the artistry and the care he took in creating silhouettes, and really celebrating bodies. Not like some designers telling that he is celebrating bodies.
    Also, wasn't he supposed to revive Charles James? After the James Charles' Met Gala the brand was supposed to be revive with him at the helm?
