Thank you for finally doing your research on the brand. I've been studying Versace history for the last 2 years, and it really upsets me every time you call the brand "tacky" in a negative way. It is MEANT to be tacky. Gianni wanted to redefine fashion and glamour. He doesn't believe in being boring. Fashion to him was supposed to be exciting, happy, unpretentious, so he incorporated all aspects of his life into his designs explicitly. Gianni Versace really changed fashion.

Well Ghauri has made the choice to stay away from the public, and she only was part of the industry for only a limited time. Yes she did contribute but the girls in the video were the main Versace girls, who continued in the industry. It may just be out of respect for her privacy. Also not a lot of people know of Ghauri because of her short fame. It’s really sad because she was so beautiful and her walk was unreal.

My coworkers were not sure what to do but allowed this art girl super fan to have some peace and grieve. Thank you for this video. I embodies a love for wanting to be one of the girls on that runway, my love for Gianni and my favorite memory of my first and only trip to Paris. 💟
Luke, thank you for making this video. Gianni Versace is my favorite fashion designer. His designs were so creative, bold, glamourous, and sexy. His diversity, his positivity, his love for women, and his passion for fashion is so inspiring. He really was ahead of his time. 😍😍😍😍😍
Yep those were the best of times. I worked in the Financial sector so in day time I did the black elegant suits, but when Friday happened it was, more is more. I remember a John Richmond leather Jacket with “destroy”emblazoned across each sleeve. George Michael was best buddies with Lisa Stansfield, who had a classic hit “All around the world”. There were only two Destroy jackets, she had the other and auctioned it for charity. I spent the next decade explaining that I had not won it (ironically I met both George and Lisa at the opening of the Versace Storein London” both gorgeous people. I did express my distress over the Destroy jacket. She grinned and apologised. Anarchy and over the top was what Versace gave us. For me Evangelista was the greatest of them all. I too loved to change it up often with red, white blue, and blonde hair. My father survived me but only just. I kept all those pieces and the finally they went to my daughter, who like her mother loved over the top. She looked fantastic. Better than I ever did. But I am biased. It’s allowed. I am mature now but my natural long wavy black hair has blonde and ash brown highlights thro it and I still pull out the over the knee boots now and then. Okay...I am aging myself here but I have to say that Versace inspired my whole wardrobe during my high school and college years. Imagine me stomping the floors of the hallways in my thigh high boots and gold gangling belts with dripping coins and gems letting everybody know I was coming. I loved this video and your channel is my "go to" these days. Keep it up!! By the way...Tatina was in Freedom. I only know this because my friends and I used to re-enact this video every time MTV played it. We were "obsessed", to say the least. lol
1995 Thierry Mugler fashion show! Also, shot out to jasmine Ghauri. She ate all the other girls up on the runway minus ms Naomi. Too bad she suddenly gave up on her career
A couple of things you got wrong: You mixed up Cindy and Claudia with looks 3 and 4. Christy's first look was a princess or "fit and flare" dress, not a babydoll (the babydoll is the one that has the empire waist and full frilly skirt that makes anybody with a bust look pregnant. The dresses worn during that lip synching bit were babydolls). You actually correctly identified the same shape in the ready to wear portion. And the guy in the Wild One was Marlon Brando, not James Dean. But I'm being nitpicky. This was a real trip down memory lane for me. I was probably about your age when this collection came out. I'd forgotten how much I loved it. I always thought Versace took what Christian Lacroix started in the 80s and made it more accessible with the deliberate use of overtly sexy elements. Lacroix's excess skewed old compared to Versace's.
@@aleeeeeeexoxo yeh i get what you mean, in imagery like that a lot you see violins a lot more than cellos so it is definitely strange. Although the placing of it is almost kind of how you hold a cello so perhaps?

I love these history videos!! You made me actually appreciate Versace. I would really love to see video go in depth about haute couture and the rise of ready-to-wear.

Wow this is beyond impressive. You woulda rocked my history of costume class. A+ for doing your research accurately! THIS is why I watch this channel, the research is clearly done and very accurate
Thank you for this! I have loved Gianni since I was a girl. He is an icon. I grew up watching the Supermodels. Those girls had "It" no offense to today's models but they don't even compare. Loved everything about this and just subscribed to your page. Great job covering the greatness that was Versace.
This. This is the type of content I’d love to see from you. I started watching you when you reviewed fashion shows, but I wasn’t super into your “judging the red carpet” content
Tatjana Patitz was also originally supposed to walk the runway with the other 4 girls but she couldn't make it. Gianni probably was pissed about that since he wanted all the models from the video. So it's funny that what is now seen as an iconic moment is actually not 100% perfect in his eyes.
Great video. As someone who was 17 years old when this collection came out, I appreciate that you have an interest in doing these throwback episodes. In my opinion, Gianni Versace got even better after this show. His collections from 1992 are incredible, and my favorite two couture shows by anyone ever are the ones he did for Atelier Versace that year. But he was on a roll all through the nineties until his death.
@@tomasandrew9354 Yeah, I've seen his stuff from the 80s too and it was also very good. He used a lot of 80s supermodels too so he always hired the best.
FYI, that was Marlon Brando, not James Dean. Tatiana was also in Freedom 90 video. I remember this collection and wished I could have affforded the crystal jackets.
That's funny that you say that. I think people are generally much more attractive now. These models are some of the most beautiful people in the world, though.
@@cocoknows Well, maybe I don't have a fair comparison looking at myself everyday, but from movies magazines and pictures of the early to mid 1900s people seem much more attractive to me!
I LOVED THIS!!! Versace will always be my number one! I know he was over the top, but I looked up to him, he designed for my generation and I grew up with those Supermodels. I've watched this video twice already just to see those beautiful creations again.
The only one who I think looks like a 90's model is Bella Hadid and even she falls short in terms of the confidence. I think nepotism spoils that unique type of "started from the bottom" confidence.
Michelle Foucault there are other models who are starting from “the bottom” and they don’t have great walks. But you won’t know or discuss that because they don’t have fame. Plus fashion houses actually tell the model’s what type of walk to do to portray their collection. And the current instruction is a very un-emotive walk to put focus on the clothes and not the models
I’m so happy you’ve found your love of Gianni ;after the American Crime Story season I found myself wanting to know more about his work and I went down a Versace rabbit hole and I was floored at how humble, artistic, and forward thinking he was. And I understood why so many were so heartbroken by his passing considering his influence and amazing vision.
My Italian mom met him in the 80s and she took me to one of his fashion shows I met him as a little girl in the 90s and now that I'm an adult it's great to see more people knowing who Gianni was because I feel like they only know his sister, but it's really her brother who created the magic of the Versace brand, very creative talented designer and a nice sweet person gone but not forgotten his birthday was actually recently passed on December 2nd RIP 💔😭
I would like you to do a comparison of the Versace Supermodels, The Victoria Secrets Angels and the current wave of new models (Gigi, Bella, Kendall, Cara Delevingne etc.) It's be interesting to see how models have become more mainstream nowadays
Clearly his entire body of knowledge is invalid then! Like little kids with can openers, clearly if they can’t operate a gadget they’ve never seen they’re dumb and worthy of our pseudo elitist snark. Intelligence is definitely binary and anecdotal and narcissistically based solely on our own existing body of knowledge. Like a competitive game of Trivial Pursuit. With beers and bets and movie quotes and lots of pointing and laughing at people who miss a question. Now that’s what I call smart. 🤦♀️
This was the time I was in my early 20s - yes, I'm old. I absolutely adored Linda Evangelista, especially when she cut her hair short! - it was revutionary and made all the headlines at the time. And absolutely loved the Versace designs. I actually have a versace shirt I keep like a treasure in my wardrobe. This is a fun video to watch, takes me back...
I really LOVE this video. I am looking forward to more seminal moments in brand history because the depth of your research brings to life what can be dry and difficult to understand in a book!
Mr Mar .... ( sp ? ) much appreciation for the impressively in depth expose on Versace .... most of which I was unaware .... he was a talent to be contended with ... amazing results which we see here in your video presentation .... I enjoyed your sociological backround info as well Mr Versace's innovative textile work . In my mind , he was brilliant to combine so much historic iconography and made it work beautifully .... perhaps we fashion enthusiasts are all " cut from the same bolt of cloth " - even my dad took a turn in his book " Fashion , culture and Identity " - which " reads - into " the " language " of fashion . Molto Gratia monsieur Luc

Yaaasss! Some of her looks haven’t aged well, but growing up she was IT for me. (I too am older than dirt! Lol) There was a photo of her pregnant in a stunning gown having fallen asleep at the opera - F**king ICONIC.
Great analysis of Versace (and I agree more styling power than fashion creativity). BTW. These models were "super" models before this runway show. George Michael cast them in his Freedom video for that very reason.
Gianni Versace was extremely creative and he created these supermodels. Even Naomi Campbell said she would not be half as known without Gianni Versace.
Marlon Brando was such a HUNK😍 Loved this video Luke! You explain the history and cultural influence of Versace so well and in a way that isnt BORING. The assassination of Gianni will always be one of the greatest tragedies. But kudos to Donatella for keeping her brothers legacy alive.

YESSSSSS.....more of Giani please! It wa sooo nice to see you joyful about a collection!
Congrats, you just made me fall in love with vintage Versace. Ahead is a long night of coffee and research 👍🏾
This. This is the type of content I’d love to see from you. I started watching you when you reviewed fashion shows, but I wasn’t super into your “judging the red carpet” content
Tatjana Patitz was also featured in the "Freedom 90" music video. She has curly blonde hair in the video.
Tatjana Patitz was also originally supposed to walk the runway with the other 4 girls but she couldn't make it.
Gianni probably was pissed about that since he wanted all the models from the video.
So it's funny that what is now seen as an iconic moment is actually not 100% perfect in his eyes.
@@Firespawnable Wow I had no idea. Thanks for the info!
My favorite was his spring 1991 collection. 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Firespawn Yeah, Gianni all through the 90s was great.
Fashion history videos are my fav from you!!!
These are like video essays and they're amazing. Making connections to Japanese designers, talking about older women. Amazing.
90s Versace was the pinnacle of fashion, imo.
Also, a very well-researched video!
this video truly showed me that we’re starved with actual creativity nowadays
These constant uploads 👏👏

"you'll realize that Gianni does not give a singular.... fedoodle."
great video! love it, thank you! :) note: all 5 were in the Freedom video, also stunning Tatjana
That was Marlon Brando in "The Wild One" not James Dean!
I live for Linda Evangilista.
They just don't make em like that anymore Luke. Sigh
girl that isn’t james dean, that’s marlon brando
Omg, is it me or people were much more attractive in the past?!?! These are some of the only runaway looks I'd ever buy 😍 gorgeous!
As an Italian I just want to say I'm very proud of your pronunciation!!! Your "Versace" is flawless and that takes effort.
Cant imagine how long this took to research and write, bravo Luke
Very proud that my first designer bag is Versace ❤️
1:55 "Gianni Versace grrrrrew up" lmao I LIVE for that accent
I LOVED THIS!!! Versace will always be my number one! I know he was over the top, but I looked up to him, he designed for my generation and I grew up with those Supermodels. I've watched this video twice already just to see those beautiful creations again.
Wow, these walks used to be so sophisticated and magnetic
Meanwhile Kendall Jenner's walk be like:

The only one who I think looks like a 90's model is Bella Hadid and even she falls short in terms of the confidence. I think nepotism spoils that unique type of "started from the bottom" confidence.
Michelle Foucault there are other models who are starting from “the bottom” and they don’t have great walks. But you won’t know or discuss that because they don’t have fame. Plus fashion houses actually tell the model’s what type of walk to do to portray their collection. And the current instruction is a very un-emotive walk to put focus on the clothes and not the models
@@MichelleRedSoul bella only looks like a 90s model because she had tons of surgery to look like one (Carla Bruni). and bella is a horrible model
@@TA12002 She had a nose job and botox and that is the standard for nepotism models.
@@suleb1 Why would I pay attention to them if they don't have great walks. I think my favourite walker today is Karlie Kloss.
I never truly appricated how iconic Versace was until now! Thanks Luke
Those clothes are still beautiful, for the most part. Definitely full of nostalgia for this Gen X-er who was in high school at the time of this show.
My Italian mom met him in the 80s and she took me to one of his fashion shows I met him as a little girl in the 90s and now that I'm an adult it's great to see more people knowing who Gianni was because I feel like they only know his sister, but it's really her brother who created the magic of the Versace brand, very creative talented designer and a nice sweet person gone but not forgotten his birthday was actually recently passed on December 2nd
RIP 💔😭
these vids are so well researched and presented!!
I would like you to do a comparison of the Versace Supermodels, The Victoria Secrets Angels and the current wave of new models (Gigi, Bella, Kendall, Cara Delevingne etc.)
It's be interesting to see how models have become more mainstream nowadays
Luke I just woke up from a depression nap for this.
Wtf you mean “depression” nap
Lilmama Johnson exactly what it sounds like
It's been 4 days...lets see if today I can face the world..
Your vibes genuinely make me happy.
Love the video! Gianni is pronounced without the first i, by the way. Like "Jahnni"
This is fabulous! As a young woman during the 1990s, I just thought that this was how it had always been. Lots to think about here!
You killed this, babe. ❤️
~From a 90’s kid.
🤦♀️
the best essay about gianni versace out there !
Your content 😩🙌
Your curls 🥺❤️
My fave HauteLeMode video. Thanks for giving a true shout out to Versace.
AAAHHHH OMG OMYMODE 💖 getting notifications from hautelemode IS THE BEST , THANKS 😱😱🌺🌺
Yasmeen slaying everyones lives.
I really LOVE this video. I am looking forward to more seminal moments in brand history because the depth of your research brings to life what can be dry and difficult to understand in a book!
THE CASEY ANTHONY SHADEEEE. I screamed out loud
Loved loved loved this video! Took me back to my days as a 20 something, idolising the supers.
I just love how he says “Veeeersace” 👏🏾😂
moividrih it’s a little obnoxious

A. L. Up until this year...lol
A. L. He’s American...
Mr Mar .... ( sp ? ) much appreciation for the impressively in depth expose on Versace .... most of which I was unaware .... he was a talent to be contended with ... amazing results which we see here in your video presentation ....
Love all the historic references, LOVE YOU
I actually love you, you deserve the hype
Everyone vote for “haute le mode” paper magazine!!! You tuber of the year
one of my favorites collection ever made in fashion, thank you for doing an incredible video about Gianni. Ci manchi Gianni ❤️❤️
Imagine if he reacted to the pretty little thing fashion show.
BTW IT WAS AN ATROCITY
(My first ever comment on RUclips)
Been watching your channel for over a year now.
(Love your video content and you make me laugh)!
I am a super fan of the Gianni Versace’s Era and the Versace brand.
I respect your research and appreciate how you were honest, explored and exposed the Versace history and style. (Knowing that you weren’t a fan of it to start with).
Sending you lots of love and kisses.
Keep up the great job!
Have you done a video on Princess Diana?
Even Naomi Campbell said she would not be half as known without Gianni Versace.
once you said "gossip girl had questionable style choices" or something... what about you review some of the show's fashion???
Marlon Brando was such a HUNK😍 Loved this video Luke! You explain the history and cultural influence of Versace so well and in a way that isnt BORING. The assassination of Gianni will always be one of the greatest tragedies. But kudos to Donatella for keeping her brothers legacy alive.
