    I think I'll try out either Cakewalk Next or Cakewalk Sonar in the foreseeable future.
    Both are great DAW's in there own unique way. Such as the UI, Track templates & others, Hopefully you do do Cakewalk Sonar next.

    Well i don't mind that it is basic. Most DAWs competing in advance features end up confusing users etc. Thinking cakewalk next is a simple easy DAW and Cakewalk Sonar will be the pro advance cakewalk.
    Since you already tried it, can you confirm that Cakewalk Next is computer based and not cloud online based?
    Still need the bandlab subscription to regularly reactivate this software?

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  Год назад +2

      It is a downloadable program that is available on both Mac and Windows. You still need a Bandlab account to activate it but at the moment you don't need a subscription. I don't know if that will change, there has been no mention of pricing or anything yet. But it is a downloadable program and much better than the current Bandlab DAW.

    i am am loving cakewalk next, very simple yet brilliant nothing but praise, does everything i need, so far so good, used cakewalk sonar for over 20 years ,
    now use traction waveform for last year, but i have major issues when using 3 monitors on waveform , waveform is all most useable, other multi monitor users are saying the same, cannot adjust VST program freezes and does not respond, effect slow response etc, traction support non existent,
    so i imported all the rendered track from waveform into cakewalk next to try , and used same effect and it works perfectly using cakewalk next

      If you already have Cakewalk by Bandlab on your computer then yes you'll be able to continue to use it for as long as you like. This program is the first of 2 programs that they will be releasing under the new brand name "Cakewalk". The other program will be Cakewalk Sonar which is the next edition of the current version of Cakewalk.
      They have said that once both Cakewalk Next and Cakewalk Sonar are released then the Current Cakewalk by Bandlab will no longer be available for download but if you already have it then you will be able to continue using it however it will no longer receive updates.

    For cakewalk to start charging for its use they are going to have to step there game up The metronome should have a feature that automatically put the track in time with the set BPM Some of the features seem great so they are heading in the right direction with the free plugins and effects

    I've used Sonar since 2011, and I recently decided to take the plunge into Cubase, but I've been having to make a bunch of tweaks since I was so used to certain shortcuts that I used in Sonar, and that's perfectly fine. I'm wondering how Next is going to be and/or Sonar here in the near future. If it's just as competitive with Cubase and other major DAWs in terms of what can be done, it may just be easier for me to come back to Cakewalk!

    • @AudioTechTV

      @AudioTechTV  Год назад +2

      I’m hoping, when they release the updated Sonar, it will be compatible with the ssl UF8. The basics kind of work right now but it’s messy and you can’t control busses.
      Studio One is excellent though.

    7:48 "Record / Playback / Both" seems like they're mimicking a physical three-way switch, but for a UI it'd make more sense to use checkboxes for just Record & Playback. I'm nitpicking though.

  • @glennlittle7955
    @glennlittle7955 Год назад

    Hi Zane. Thanks for the vid.
    To me it looks exactly as I expected - ie a pc / Mac version of the Bandlab app. In fact Bandlab is already available on pc/Mac via your browser, although Next allows plugins which is obviously a massive step forward over the (mostly) crappy included instruments. Still, while it looks great for getting started it's (probably) a bit of a toy compared to CbB, or the free version of Waveform for that matter.
    The first version of Cakewalk Sonar is just the next version of CbB so I'm not expecting these two products to look, feel or act much like each other. Perhaps in time. Right now I'd be amazed if the common naming is anything more than a branding exercise.

    Personally I quite like the minimal look, as someone who uses, Blender, Unity, Unreal, Gimp etc yeah an overly cluttered GUI can be daunting and off-putting for beginners.
    I'm not a fan of the highlight orange/red etc over the tracks, nor the metronome sound, it sounds like a popping beat rather than a ticking beat, it's actually a bit off-putting, instead a very strong, well defined but low sounding beat should be used close to the original, but just tweaked a tiny bit, that's just my opinion though, some might like it, but if it ain't broke...as they say.
    Otherwise the rest looks decent, they have done their research into what sounds lot of people are using, so straight out the box, not bad, not bad at all...👍

      I think the point of this program is to be more like a Bandlab Next. They are moving to using the name "Cakewalk" as the brand. So this is not the next version of what we currently know as Cakewalk. They have said that Cakwewalk Sonar will be the next version of Cakewalk by Bandlab.
      This program is intended as an entry level DAW for people just getting into it or just curious about music production. It's definitely the next level of the Bandlab DAW and so far it seems much better than it.

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  11 месяцев назад +2

      This is basically the downloadable and more useful version of Bandlab. They are making Cakewalk the brand name. So this isn’t replacing what you currently know as Cakewalk. This is the entry level DAW. The next version of the current Cakewalk by Bandlab will be called Cakewalk Sonar.
      They are moving away from the Bandlab name for the software and Cakewalk is now the brand. I’m sure there will be more Cakewalk stuff in the future but right now they’ve just announced Next and Sonar.

  • @TeksonikAudio
    @TeksonikAudio Год назад +3

    Looks like a DAW designed by and for pre-teens. Bandlab you can't be serious right? I know this is a beta but if this thing is more than $20 then they've lost their minds. I'm genuinely embarrassed for the Cakewalk guys going from one of the most comprehensive DAWs on the market to this silly children's toy. This shouldn't be called Next it should be called Previous because there is nothing new in it at all. Hopefully Sonar will be aimed at grown ups and not be as hideous looking as this thing. 0/10.

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  Год назад +5

      This is more like Bandlab Next. I think they are using "Cakewalk" more as a brand name now so it's not intended to be a replacement to what we currently know as Cakewalk by Bandlab. Cakewalk Sonar will be the next generation of that program. So I think the actual DAW name here is "Next" and Cakewalk is just the brand name, kind of like "Live" is the DAW name and Ableton is the brand.
      I think the intention of this program is to target newer & casual users kind of similar to like a Garageband program. It gets users into the game and then once users get more experience and want to get a little more advanced they can move up to Sonar or some other program but if they move to Sonar then their current projects will open in it.
      I have a feeling that the price point on this one will be fairly low. I haven't heard anything about price yet but I think for this one it will likely be under $50 or maybe even thrown in with other things eventually.
      For an entry level program it's actually one of the better ones. I've used some of these entry level music production programs and have felt frustrated. This one didn't give me that feeling. It's basic and straight forward which should help newcomers.
      And yes it's currently early Beta so I do expect it to get better still and more polished but I don't think Next will ever be a replacement for the current version of Cakewalk that's not the intention of this program.
      Thank you for watching and commenting. Keep creating! 👊👍
