Great tips. Next time at the track, I will just focus on driving the line into the jumps, once I get that consistently, the next step will be to make the jump.
This was great information. 3 things really stuck in my head from this video. Reaction time: Speed into the jump: Letting off the throttle as you leave the jump. My old man reaction time is not that great and I normally just peg the throttle and land back flips in the weeds. No control at all. The info you provided is very helpful. Turning the wheels in mid air. I'll have to try that. 👍👍
Hope it helps for sure! I really try to take a good run at the jump so I'm not trying to accelerate up the jump unless it's a short run up and I have to. Much easier to lift off at the face if you have good speed
@@TheRacinJason I have just moved back to Alberta, Canada and living in a small city called Red deer, We have a small RC race track in town that opens up again in two weeks. this year I will just be concentrating on my own skills and just trying to get around and staying on all 4 wheels
I would be curious if you have had tried or had much success at scrubbing a jump. It's hard to get consistent but pretty cool when it works. We have a jump sequence on our track that are easy to carry way too much speed into, scrubbing lets you shed excess speed at the jump lip. When I do it right I can get the vehicle almost completely nose down in the air, then give it a blip of throttle to bring the nose up for landing. Not sure if it saves that much time, but its fun to practice.
Ya I think jumping lower when you don't have a good landing is safer too, so you might give up a good tenth or two, but when you don't crash it saves huge time. Typically I'd say it's just lifting early to kill speed. Do you turn down or use break?
If you are really going for a scrub you brake at the lip (~20-50% brake). This scrubs speed, puts the nose down and shortens jump distance. Nose down means you use air flow to slow you down further, plus that attitude pushes the car down as well which further shortens the jump and reduces air time. Tap throttle to bring nose up for landing. It’s for a situation where if you came in full tilt you would overshoot the landing by a large margin. Scrubbing let’s you run full speed up to the jump, slow down at the last possible moment (I.e., jump lip) so you can make the jump downside as soon as possible and get back on the throttle earlier.
Ya I'd say you have to scrub my step up if you get a really good run at it so you don't spend too much time in the air... or any wall jump with a fast approach. Id definitley say it happens, I'm just careful not to nose down the car too much... definitley a situational technique for sure!
@@TheRacinJason I have only had success with 4wd buggies, its super hard to get the sequencing down, but when it works its money. I think I need to put a ton more practice before I would ever try it in a racing scenario.
@@squeakygiant definitley timing and control between brake and throttle because you're transferring so much weight forward by braking. Nice thing with 4wd is you can go to the gas to bring the nose back up!
Definitely worth a shot. Try the front and rear independently... could be the rear slapping the jump face. Or a little stiffer front setting could keep it from driving. Is it a short course truck?
Can definitely try with rwd cars. Turn the front tires as you take off. If you can get it to pitch a little with the nose down it should still do a little whip. You just don't have as much power and control to bring it back with two tires spinning instead of all 4
i have an traxxas xmaxx stock. when im in the air and press the brake just a tad bit.. it inmediately dives nose forward like lightning speed... do i have to change the brake force %?
Definitely possible. Just not as pronounced... the more rotating mass you have, so bigger tires, and more tires moving (4wd) the more control you have.
Sad to tell even real and Rc many people just talking Speed or they Over power there Rc and Car but they Don’t know how to Control or real Operating the Vehicle or Rc car’s I see you explain great hope people can Get something from this Video 👍
If the car is nose up tap the brake to bring it back down. If it's nose down grab some throttle. With Short Course it wants to jump nose down so I'm always ready to add a little blip of throttle at take off. Do it enough it turns into muscle memory
@@TheRacinJason I'm having exactly this problem 50% of the times as soon as i leave big jumps (i'm running mostly of 1:8 buggy track) the car immediatelly goes nose down and even if full throttle i cant recover it (with 2s). Some other time it just do it perfect and to me i'm doing the same everytime.. so wondering what could it be. (using a tekno 401sl)
@@MaxDellOrco couple things you can try are ride height, if the chassis is slapping it could kick the truck forward. The other thing, and I don't remember the exact adjustment but if you search for short course truck nose diving, there was a thread in RCtech that talked about either changing the kick up or toe in the front of the truck to essentially stiffen the way the truck absorbed the take off of jumps to keep the nose up. Look for that or try a little bit of suspension adjustment and see if that helps. If not you may try to let off just before the jump and then to hit the gas on the way up the face of the jump to encourage a nose up attitude. If the rear is slapping the face and kicking the truck forward this could exacerbate the problem so just play with it. You might also just hold throttle through the take off instead of lifting to really keep the nose up. You'll probably still want to lift at some point so the truck doesn't balloon but gotta do something to keep that nose up. Short course is really fun to drive but can be a challenge on big jumps. Let me know if any of that helps
Parents sacrificed a lot, we were pretty low budget... and definitely couldn't afford it with how costs have gotten these days. The last year we ran I saved for 18 months and worked 6-7 days a week to build a new car and rebuild our motor. Pretty cool to say I drove those things but dunno if I'll get in another one now that I have kids

I was there the second time they were out!
Answered some questions for me, thanks. I'm just getting in to racing and finding jumping really tricky to master 👍🏻
Very cool! What class are you runnin?
Glad the video could help!
I loved going to Skagit Speedway. Just good clean fun.
Good video on jumping RC's. These are definitely techniques every driver should know.
Thanks Doc, controlling the jumps, the flight of the car, and sticking the landing are things I see a lot of drivers struggle with!
Nice information, just takes practice,,and a few broken parts 😂
All part of the fun.
Thanks!

4:06 the nose down from braking is not due to weigh transfer front to back it is due to conservation of angular momentum of the tires
