I've been using the Blackhole as an audio plug-in for a few years and it's definitely my go-to for weird, dark reverbs on a variety of sources. Not a useable everyday reverb so much as a fantastic special effect reverb for when you wanna get strange. Cool to see it as a pedal, though at that price point I'm not sure I would justify having it on my board. Wishing it was a little cheaper, though still pretty great sounding nonetheless. (For the record the plugin is $199 but I purchased it when Eventide runs their sales for a mere $40 and it was worth every penny!)
$279 is actually a decent price for a unit like this. Sounds like an alternate reality Strymon blueSky. edit: I stand corrected. I was comparing to competitor’s pedals, not the h9.
you can buy an H9 for $300 and it comes with a free algorithm. This needed to be cheaper

@@RamJam11111 Yes the Ventris is awesome, dual reverbs at the same price point, software control for deep dives and the neuro hub eco system is pretty darn cool. But Eventide does make juicy gear, love to have an H9.
Sounds great but six knobs, each with a dual function is a lot of user friendliness to deal with. When pedals have this many options/adjustments IMO a display is called for. I had a GFI Specular Reverb but switched to their Specular Tempus so I could see what I was doing.
Is there any reason for Eventide for not releasing pedals like this Blackhole or the Space or the H9 or the Pitchfactor, etc... in Eurorack form? They cannot say they don't have a market for them! Maybe they are being cautious because of their first module in Eurorack, the Euro DDL, not making big sales, but hey, Why do You release a Delay Module in a market where there is a lot of competence (= Intellijel Rainmaker, Strymon Magneto, MakeNoise, 4MS, etc.). Just stick to what no other do better than you: Reverb, Pitcshifting, Combined FX and start making money RIGHT NOW!
OK, so maybe this has been asked before, but the trick with palming the pick. Its like magic. I can watch Andy make the pick disappear and re-appear as he switches to finger style playing in video after video and can't see how its done. It's literally one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. So firstly, Andy - well done, whatever is going on here is mesmerising. Secondly, can you do a video on how you do it? Thank you.

this is good...but just cannot see much progress...considering strymon, chase bliss, hologram, meris, source audio, etc... are keep inventing completely new product
You make connect to Blackhole in mono and connect its stereo outputs to your stereo Cab modeling pedal or directly to your recording interface in stereo. If you’re going into some sort of amp modeler, have the impedance switch set to “Guitar”. If your going into an interface, set it to “Line”.

Hey Andy, my question has nothing to do with this video but I respect your knowledge & your opinion. What advice do you have on some *(me) that will be converting a small bedroom into a studio. Electrical concerns, soundproofing etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thnx - keep Rocking! 🎸🎶🤘
That’s quite a big project and I wish you luck! My quick advice would be to not worry so much about sound proofing in a home because it’s nearly impossible to stop frequencies (especially bass) from moving to other rooms or outside. All you can hope for is stopping sound reflections inside, which is what foam can help with. Power: if you can run a separate breaker, that’s a nice luxury-otherwise get some good power strips with higher ratings. I use a separate amp booth to record amps and it’s my savior for home recording. You can make them too!
@@thesaj1110 I've never had an issue with them, but to each their own. It's great for people who don't want to share their banking info with a dozen different businesses.
While this sounds amazing. I think I'll wait until I can find it for a good deal, not because the price is too high, I actually think it's pretty inexpensive, but mostly because on my list of pedals it wouldn't be a high priority one. The soundscapes it's capable of is amazing, but I think some of the Strymon, and the Mercury7 by meris, and the Dark World by Chase Bliss, are better options for a couple of bucks more.
The notes played and the guitar and amp settings were a bit grating on my head, I guess I have sensitivity in the 1.4 to 1.6 Khz range, those areas caused me to turn down my speakers to not bother other rooms, the pierced out so much. There's not much at all in the mid to low frequencies in this video.
I know “Blackhole” is kind of Eventide’s signature algorithm now, but why not just save up for a Space and have waaaaayy more reverb algorithms? This just seems like a lazy way to repackage a sound from a pedal they made 10 years ago.
The pedal sounds good but c'mon guys in 2020 is not really possible to see a freeze function that does not allow you to play over a reverberate guitar...so in this case if you want to play over a freezed sound with sounding ridiculous you have to use another delay or reverb next to the eventide to stay in the mood. I say No no no.
What’s up with this guys guitar tone. The brightness/EQ alone is so harsh that you really can’t get a grasp of the reverb pedal itself because the guitar is harsh thus creating a very harsh reverb sound. I own this pedal and it’s very smooth and big. The wrong person to showcase reverb.
Truly, this is the golden age for reverb pedals.
it is
It's also the golden age for Kitty goggles...apparently.

Still in the stoneage of analogue spring reverb pedals. There is the Spaceman analogue spring box, but very few others.
I feel like Andy has to have been on soooooooo many records and I haven't realized. Dudes chops and taste are impeccable.
About time they did this!

Awesome job Andy, thanks.

Can’t wait to try one of these things! The plugin is so amazing
Better than ValhallaDSP?
Love your reviews Andy. cost me a pretty penny in pedals but hey gotta spend it somewhere

Listening on headphones that sounds epic
Thanks, I recommend everyone do this to hear the stereo spread and the full frequency range.👍🏻
I was just about to pull the trigger on a Blue Sky...and then this.
Great job Andrew!
9:57 heavenly

Lmao and people complained about not having ENOUGH knobs on the h9... you just can’t make em all happy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Does the H9 have all these algorithm's?
Great pedal!
I bought the Blackhole app for my iPad and it’s awesome!
I wonder how the Blackhole would compare to the Blue Sky?
