    I've recently purchased the E14 Gen 4 AMD variant. Tested it for a week before reissuing to another staff member. Really solid option, this is probably the model our organisation is going to go with as a standard issue for most staff.

      I'd love to hear more. I hear the newer ones have two M.2 slots?

      @@LaptopRetrospective yes they do! And 8gb soldered plus the ram slot so it can run dual channel. It's a tad brighter than the gen 1 at 300 nits. The webcam is 1080p and IR so good quality online meetings and windows hello is an option. We got it for about 690 USD.

      1080p webcams are a must now. Crazy to think it took until now before most manufacturers put them into laptops.

    I've had an e14 gen 1 since June 2020 and it was my first thinkpad. It serves me amazingly every day and I was very happy to see you do a video on it since the E series seems to not be very respected.

    Not a bad machine. I hate soldered on components but in this instance, at least some RAM soldered in, would have given it dual memory channel capability. But, it's budget orientated after all. I'd sooner have that than some of the other mainstream offerings. Nice review, as usual.

      Cheers. If you need to save a few dollars but still want ThinkPad reliability, it's a nice option. Lots of storage too.

    Great breakdown! I’ve been curious about the E-series and this really helped me better understand what they’re capable of.

    Enjoyed the review!
    A bigger battery could fit if the 2.5 drive was ditched. I wonder if that's in the plans for this chassis.
    I recently won at auction 6 E15 i5 without drives & power adapters for about 208$ each with shipping, some had bumps but t nothing bad. I found 500gb nvme barracudas for 90$ CDN apiece on sale at Staples, since I already had a bunch of chargers they only needed some love after that. They sold almost instantly with 20%+ profit, could have asked more but they weren't "A" so... Super easy to clean and to work on if needed, both thumbs up for the design of the E series!

    I would love to see a comparison of the E series and T series, and possibly the L series, in terms of build quality and durability. E series is known to be the budget type but I feel like there isn't much difference if you get the aluminum casing.

    • @LaptopRetrospective
      @LaptopRetrospective  2 года назад

      If I ever get the chance to do a direct comparison, I will. In the meantime, I at least have a T14 video.

      @@LaptopRetrospective from your experience what are the noticeable downsides of the E series compared to the T series?

    • @LaptopRetrospective
      @LaptopRetrospective  2 года назад

      Build quality and the options available. But it isn't black and white as the E series has some options that the T series doesn't.

    E14 Gen 2 ditched the 2.5 bay, and dropped one of the two 3.0 ports. Had I known this, u would have waited to get my hands on a Gen 1 instead of 2. That being said, the Ryzen 5 4500u blows every other ThinkPad I have out of the water (T450s, T440s, R400, T61).

    hopefully you can get a L14 at some point because I've been looking at the teardowns for it and it does actually have 2 ramslots where as the Tseries and the Eseries T14/E14 do not.

    I'm thinking about buying a newer model with the 5500u, 16gb RAM, 240gb SSD and no OS since the used market here is wack for almost 800€ on the lenovo website

    E14 gen 5 may be the next gen with rdna2 and usb 4(maybe maybenot)
    But u lose 1.8mm key travel and m.2.2280 slot.
    Rdna 2 but at what cost😢

    That lone heat pipe looks so wimpy and sad lol, anyway not too fond of some of the design choices with modern Thinkpads but did toss my hat in the modernish thinkpad by getting a T470P. Single sodimm slot without there being dual channel is to say ruinous for performance for everything except for DDR5.
