    Salute madame,
I want a tip from you. I've been making sentences and trying to create a short story in French and since I've befriend a native French man through italki so he's quite generous to check them and point out my mistakes. I try to converse with him in French but sometimes I rely on Google translate or dictionary to construct few sentences, I even try to listen to French music and read stories in French but I can't stop translating things in my head. So how shall I prevent it? Sometimes I try to listen to the song without looking at the lyrics and English translation but I end up messing everything up and getting nothing. I'm trying everything in my power but I always feel that either I'm losing motivations or I'm not getting anywhere. Can you suggest me what should I do what changes should I bring on my self tutoring or is it that I'm going hard on myself or I'm overthinking or overstressing myself? Otherwise I'm learning French through RUclips videos.

Total immersion, if you have the chance. When I came to France I adopted the policy of not reading anything in English, not listening to English radio and pretending that I couldn't speak English. It's punishing! Three weeks later my brain went on strike and sent me to sleep for 18 hours. I woke up, and what came into my head was "il fait beau", which I then translated into English, "it's a nice day". Anyway, bon courage, and it's great that you're writing stories in french.

@@raykent3211 it's not actually stories just some short episodes that come up in my head

@@arunimasaha4171 OK, well learning a foreign language is like a painter using a different colour pallette than the one they're used to. If your story is very short then I guess you could post it here, I'd like to read it.

Arunima Saha I can just give my experience. I did a lot of listening to vocabulary lists and single sentences. Just listening and not trying to understand it too much. I knew what was said and the meaning though. Try watching really simple cartoons also. Even for toddlers. Eventually it just started to click. You may have to struggle for a few months just doing lots of listening. Just relax and don't try so hard. You may be just trying to bite off more than you can chew. Like watching videos that are just too advanced for you at this time. Just listen listen listen.
I know what you mean though. Your not actually "hearing" it. Like I said don't try to hard and forget thinking of the English. It will just click eventually.
