    I don’t believe many people need to watch how potato’s are peeled and cut. They do look nicely cooked though best ones I’ve seen yet. Good job Steve.

    For a change a real no frills tutorial on how to make chunky chips in an air fryer, I love the simple step by step approach that Steve takes in his method of creating real home made chunky chips, and in the next hour or so with my three day old air fryer I am going to have a bash and replicate what I have just seen, thanks for a great video Steve, you should make more!

      @@South_West_Steve Just to let you know that I followed your instructions almost to the letter, my only change was that after I had dried the chips on kitchen towels I placed the chips into the air fryer basket, and on the Ninja air fryer there is a reheat setting so I ran it for 2 minutes, the chips came out as dry as a bone! I then continued as your tutorial and coated them with a little rape seed oil and then set them off to air fry for 18 minutes, after 10 minutes I gave them a good shake and then at 18 minutes they were perfect, I had already prepared myself three slices of fresh crusty bread and butter, and the chip butties were absolutely spot on, just nicely crisp on the outside and fluffy and soft on the inside, most definitely the way I shall go from now on, and again thanks for a really straight forward and spot on method of making lovely chunky chips, best regards.

    I've tried the from-scratch, air fryer method and the chips still seem to be crispy baked potatoes, to me. They just don't have the french fry taste, thick crust and inside texture that you get when they've been cooked in oil beforehand. Most store-bought fries that you either oven-bake, air-fry or deep-fry at home are briefly deep-fried (blanched) already and that's why they turn out tasting like french fries should taste.
    That's why all the comments about how great they look, leave me unimpressed. What about taste and texture? And a thick crust?

    • @South_West_Steve
      @South_West_Steve  Год назад +2

      The trouble is we all have different tastes and options on how we like things or on how things taste. But yh I guess things like chips / fries won't be the same when cooked in an oven or air fryer as they are when deep fried. But thanks for your comment 👍

    • @South_West_Steve
      @South_West_Steve  6 месяцев назад

      Hi .. different air fryers may vary slightly in cooking time, I would try cooking for a little longer making sure you give them a good shake occasionally.
      However if you find they burn rather than brown I would just reduce the heat to 180C for last 10 mins or so.
      Hopefully this will work 👍

    This is rather silly in my view. It's as if having bought an air-fryer (why?) you have to find ways of cooking everything with it. A bit like computers: everything has a computer program... However this is in part a clear nod to Delia who became famous for telling everyone how to boil an egg, but seriously if you want proper flavoursome chips forget all about this air-fryer stuff. Get a proper deep fryer; half fill it with beef dripping and fry them in that. You will never use an air fryer for chips ever again.

    • @South_West_Steve
      @South_West_Steve  Год назад +10

      and your welcome to your view/opinion, i was asked how i cook chips in an air fryer so i made this video in my air fryer which i bought well before making this video as another option for cooking. People like air fryers as it can be a cheaper way of cooking apposed to an oven and also a healthier option to deep frying. I guess if we all liked the same things, and done everything the same way it would be pretty boring. Thanks 👍

      If you suffer from gastric acid eating anything fried in oil is not an option, the pain I suffer from anything that has fat is awful, and can last many hours, so an airfryer is ideal.

      I agree with you totally chips cooked in lard are the best and actually contrary to public opinion lard is better for you than oil, its just cleaner and easier in the air frier 😶😶😶
