Fishing The New Moonshine Epiphany

  • Instead of a fishing trip, I went with buying myself a new rod for my birthday. Should be nice to have when I visit yellowstone later this year! The wind conditions made this hard to get a good feel for my setup, but I do know a few things for sure. I love the Moonshine Epiphany, and it was highly sensitive. It wasn't until I rewatched the footage, but I'm not sure why I didn't try to straighten out the fly line. It's memory was badly coiled and never felt tight. I feel like that's a huge disadvantage, so hopefully I can get that figured out on the next trip. Overall it wasn't a bad couple hours, I felt like I should have caught more fish but I'll give it time to get dialed in.
    Edit: I was on one this day, and let it slide in the editing. lol
    This was filmed in mid April 2021.

    I'm about to do the same, first time that is, but my understanding is that Euronymphing is 'tight line' nymphing and that one needs to stay in direct contact with the fly, even with a sighter, to sense the takes but your line is slack. Not that you're not doing superbly. Well done!

      Thanks. First time out was a bit of a learning curve, and I had wind constantly blowing my line around that made it difficult. I've since done better since but have not had enough time on the water with the rod yet. I do more tight line nymphing with tungsten beads with a tenkara rod than I have with the euro, so far. Mostly because I fish smaller streams, but they are very similar in the way you tight line nymph. Same principles.
      You're not exactly wrong about keeping a tight line, but in doing so its okay to have controlled slack that lets the flies drift natrually. I found a great article thats more focused on leading the fly, but touches on the ideal way to be tight line nymph. "Here’s a key point: Great tight line nymphing is about being out of contact as much as in it. Find the fine line between being in touch and slightly out, and then ride that line all the way through the drift." This is a link to the article. troutbitten.com/2020/06/21/tight-line-and-euro-nymphing-how-to-lead-the-flies/
      Thanks for stopping by Paul, I appreciate it. Let me know what rod you end up going with, and I'm curious to hear how you did. Best of luck to you, and tight lines!

    Is that highway 50? The Arkansas river? Looks like it. Very similar if not!

    Nice vid! Euro nymphing doesn’t do anything much for me besides decreases tangles but I catch the same amount of fish. Keep up the good work!

      Do what works and what's fun for you. I still enjoy Indicators and it can still be more effective in some situations, but overall it's hard to deny the benefits of it. Thanks man, I appreciate it! 😊

      When I fish off the camera, I actually go no indicator at all most of the time. Reduces tangles and bs line behavior.

    How did your rod assemble? Mine had some fairly large gaps between the dots giving a flat finish between the nice gloss finish

    • @kingkiddfishing
      @kingkiddfishing  2 года назад

      Same, the gaps kind threw me off at first, but I could tell that's how they designed it. How do you like the rod?

    Did you detect the hits by feel or the sighter?

    • @kingkiddfishing
      @kingkiddfishing  2 года назад +1

      You should be seeing the fish from the sighter before you feel them. This day in particular, I was feeling them first, in part because of inexperience and having strong winds.

    Nothing more annoying than a breeze coming down the stream when euro nymphing.😢
