Because adults often call him handsome and he doesn't feel comfortable with that. Kids don't give a damn about his look, so he knows they look at him and see Superman instead of a tough and hot man (I guess that's it)

Seems to me that just like Keanu Reeves, Henry Cavill remembers where his roots began & doesn't place himself above other people just because he's famous.
