Wow! Andy- a free community? Fantastic! Way to be different and better than many influencers- the more fans will buy- this sounds like a great series! Looking forward to seeing more!
This is an interesting idea. Thanks for sharing. I think if you made it bigger and more of a gift idea for fisherman, that would also be a cool product.
So not a real lure anymore unless deep sea fishing? Matt. Love you. Just trying to understand your angle. I get ladies buy more stuff. Unless they are tools. And a lure to a fisherman, that’s a tool.
I have hand carved lures out of pine and caught fish with them. This one actually looks great but in my opinion it needs to be made out of a light color wood or painted. Pocket out a little more room for a clicker which has two little bbs that smack each other and the weight in its belly and you got a lure I guarantee would catch some bass. Thanks for the video this one was right up my alley.
I’ve been doing the R&D to launch a channel focused on exactly what you just did for the last couple years (in my spare time). In the winter there are trade shows where people sell custom lures like you just made. Nice job.
I like it. Multipurpose as a lure/key chain. You can even scale up one half and make it wall art. It's been a long time since I made my own lures, but add a UV coat instead, some reflective/glow mica and it would perform better.
Great idea, why the internal recess? Do you add weights to sink it or it will always float limply? Is CA glue waterproof now? Using a finer tb bit will i.priove scales definition.
Tupelo carves well and is a popular species for wooden lures as it floats high and accepts primer and paint well. The lure, as shown, had almost no acceptable action. You'd have to play around with the amount and placement of weight if you want it to fish, not sit on a shelf. Very interesting idea. I'd sell them sanded and primed for people to airbrush. Great video.
Hi Andy nice build reminds me of the decoys my grandpa made for ice shanty spearing. One question how come you didn't use both side machining and just flip the part over?
I love the idea for either just decor or real fishing. Can’t think of best wood to use for the underwater portion. I would guess typical cutting board type woods. Maybe a few more but still not recommended as the same reason you wouldn’t want the meat to be cut on a potential toxic wood, you wouldn’t want to try to kill the fish until caught or possibly hurt water, though unlikely on second part
I sell custom painted crankbaits for a living. I see how the guys go nuts for a natural finish wood lure. I could sell a dozen or two a week at $35. $35 might be a bit to the higher side but I have established clients. Still, someone could join a few facebook fishing groups show some wooden natural baits off and sell a bunch like that at $25 or $30. I guess my main point is $18 is way low, in fact I will buy 20 of them right now for $10 wholesale.
You must remit a 10% excise tax for any fishing lures you manufacture. If it’s sold to catch fish, the 10% excise tax applies. Keep that in mind when you’re pricing.
Don't get me wrong, I like your channel and ideas overall, but this just feels like you ripping off someone else's product. You literally start the process by going to someone else's store page, taking a picture of their product, and then tracing it so you can produce your own clone of it? People get sued for exactly that all the time. And you're posting the video publicly? Some lawyer is going to have a field day with this.
I would. I mean, if I saw this at a craft fair I would give it a go. I'm not a professional fisherman, just like to have fun. I once used a ripped up soda can as a lure to try. It worked.

Yeah, you could totally scale this up infinitely.
I can think of a couple women who'd buy one of these for their husbands.
Yes!

@@aaronblackford981 I talk about this in the video. It can go a lot of ways than just a real lure
This is great. I was recently thinking I wondered what making a fishing lure on the CNC would be like, so great timing! Thanks Andy!
You bet!
*Nice Series Idea!!! Great Build!!!*
Thanks so much!

Great video showing the ins and outs, soup to nuts. The pricing breakdown and talk of options was really good. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed! Awesome to hear!
OMG, That Is Freaking Awesome!
Looking Forward To More Of The M.S.T.S Videos Too!! Truly 💯
You got it! Thank you for the feedback!

It’s not what you want it’s what the consumer wants. Think outside the box and try it you may be surprised 🎉🎉🎉🎉 thanks Andy
Great job
Thanks

Cool. Those are some great tips and ideas. Thank you for watching!

Thanks. I talk about your questions in the video

Thanks. Because I had to machine the inside pocket where I added the weights and hooks

Would love this as a gag or prop, and was excited to make this. Unfortunately I don’t have e Aspire, only Pro.
Great idea, unfortunately it’s only available for Aspire not vcarve or vcarve pro.
You could have used vector tracing and double side machining.
I did
I been trying to do the same thing for 8 months.

Thanks for the info!
lure looks great but you're going to have some real angry customers when those hooks unscrew
Looks cool. I’d probably lose interest in making these after installing a dozen split rings to the hooks and eyelets.
Thanks, Tim. You're not wrong. Although some split ring pliers would help
I'm thinking it would be more of a keychain item. The smell of the finish might not appeal to fish.
True. I learned that who actually make these professionally us a uv resin to finish them.
Not to mention, these are huge... like double the size of a normal lure.
You haven't fished much, have you?
Selling it as a "gift for men" instead of selling it "to men" is a smart idea.
Slightly under priced in my opinion. As more of a gift/decoration a few dollars more wouldn’t affect the sell ability. Nice job on project and video.
I could see that for sure. Thanks for watching and sharing! 👍

Actual fisherman would never buy this.🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for agreeing with what I said in the video 👏

I could see them buying it just for display….
