if he wants to kill the TKD master he could, but it is Buddhism philosophy to not hurt innocent life, hence as a Shaolin Buddhist monk he wouldn't hurt the other fighter. Shaolin monk's intention is to prove his worth without hurting the other fighter, in which he very well did!!
