Cisco stackwise #1 Basics tutorial on the switch stackwise for CCNA
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 мар 2016
- Here we go over the Cisco Stackwise. This video is the first of a series, where we look at what stackwise is and why it is used in comparison to the modular switches.
We also get into the hardware side of what happens when two or more (up to max. 9) Cisco switches are interconnected via the stackwise ports, providing a link with 32Gbs throughput.
The hardware implementation is schematized via simplified figures, where the packet flow is being explained in detail.
The teardown video where more info is shown regarding the internal parts and the inner working of a stackable Cisco 3750G switch is available here:

Since I was relocating to a different country, I had simply no time to make new videos for this series. Now I am about settled, so I will keep on working on making new contents.
Working as contractor in IT-related fields has its ups/down. Having to move after your contract ends is both an up/downside... ;)
Please make tutorial on spanning tree protocol.
I rarely leave messages but the trainers tone, speed, simplicity in explaining, asking questions within is all excellent!
You should be on CBT nuggets!!
Wow, thanks for the great comment, I really appreciate it! I tried to do a decent informative video. Sadly so far I was not contacted by CBT to make them a nugget, so I will have to learn more ;)
May be the most detailed and well explained video i have ever seen in youtube . Wow man , hats off.
Only watched this video on your channel for now but love your style already!!! Will definitely be learning from your other videos! Keep it up :)
+David Okeyode
Many thanks for your words, it is really encuraging me to make more videos.
I realised that the audio quality sucks, especially the S sound messes with the cheap microphone I use with my Canon camera. Might buy a better one with time. I just moved to an other job/country since I work as a contractor. Once I am set, I will finish this series on Cisco stackwise, and switch over to different topics.
Thank you for the awesome piece of information and tutorial.
my god amazing explanation
really want you to make second video...Thank you very very much
Thank you so much for explanation . It really helped me a lot . waiting for the follow up video.
I will definitely put up more Cisco videos, in particular about Stackwise. People seem to be interested in the great technology.
A really great explanation, I still hope for the new episode. :)
I will start producing new videos in a couple weeks for this channel, more than you can watch ;)
After I moved to my current job, my commute is so long, that I barely have time to take a brake, and during that little time I am not in always in a positive mood to make a good video, simply being tired.
Really wish I can like this video twice!!!
Thank you for an awesome video. Keep it up
thank you so much for the informative video
really appreciate the effort you've put into your videos :)

Thanks for the nice comment. This video was one of the first videos what I made, and I must say that the presentation should be a lot more clear and fluid. Still, slowly I think that I improve the video quality little by little, so newer videos should be better. In fact, I intend to redo the Stackwise video in a shorter format.
Thank you very much for this video it is really well explained and clear
We are still waiting for the follow up video though!
Looking forward to it
Btw subscription is recommended
your channel has an amazing content.
Thanks for the comment! After the hot season is over, I should be able to do more videos since I can close the windows in my apartment to remove a bit of the outside noise.
I will definitely do a follow-up of the Cisco Stackwise. In fact, I intend to do a whole CCENT-CCNA series.
What an awesome explanation
Thanks for the feedback.
Now I am working on the second part concerning stack master election. Stay tuned, hopefully next week I can upload it.
very well explained. keep it up
wasted two years to find this !.... best resource on youtube... subscribed! Even CCIE's might not know these things i guess.what happened to follow up video?
Appreciated Sir , Thanks for helpful stuff !
Thanks for watching this long video. I hope you learned something from it.
I will make a shorter version focusing on the setup and configuration in the future.
Great video sir..Thank you for sharing your knowledge..God bless
God bless you too! Keep save!
best video i have ever seen explaining the stack technology. very good job!!
i could not find the next follow up video. Could you please provide the link for that if one was ever made
Thanks for the comment.
I can not believe it that a year passed, and I simply had no time to make the follow-up videos in this series.
Currently I work on the second video about stack-master election, should be up in about a week.
Donkey Learning IT thank you, waiting for it.
Thanks, I would like to see it too!
@@DonkeyLearningIT Thank you for sharing this amazing video, Donkey! I presume you've had no time to ever finish your 2nd video in the series? That's a pity but okay of course, it's still great that at least this video is available for us all. :)
@@martinledermann1862 Thanks for the positive feedback. To be honest with you, only a very select subgroup of people seemed to be interested in the topic, so indeed I have not made Part 2. However, I should sit down and make it happen even if it only gets couple hundred views.
good explanation on stacking hardware
Thanks for the feedback! Now looking back to the video, I could have done it considerably better and shorter. In March I will start doing Cisco videos again, and most likely I will make the follow-up to this content.
Great stuff
loved it, thanks
Thanks for watching! One day I will make the follow-up videos on this topic as well, just never had the time for it...
Amazing video
Thanks for the kind comment. It is a shame that last year I had no time to make a follow-up for this, I think it would have been helpful to many people...
very detailed!! excellent
Thanks for the feedback.
Now I have the full setup to do follow-up videos on stacking, ring closure, unstacking and all related stuff.
So, stay tuned ;)
I need to learn about that for work, so I'm crossing fingers so you get it out there as soon as you can! thanks so much
Awesome video! I like it
+Shampoo Wow Thanks for the positive feedback.
I hope that this series will be useful, because not much is available regarding stackwise even on paid sites.
If my Canon T3i would not mess up the audio with the auto-gain-control, it would be easier to listen to what I am talking about. For now this is as good as I can make it.
Great Video explanation of the purpose of using Stackwise . It provides an in dept insight on the inner mechanics and working of the technology and the benefits of using it.
Great explanation,
I am happy that you found it informative.
Only if I would finally get some time to make the follow-up videos...
Would be great if you could make a video about configurations as well!!!
Great job....!! Its like a live class havin two way communication...!!
Many thanks for the encouragement!
I think the video could be better, especially when it comes to production quality.
I started making part #2 of this series, and I deleted it, because I realized that the audio is noisy.
However, now with a preamp done it is time to get this series going again ;)
+Donkey Learning IT.... Hope to see this soon....
I am hunting for a third stackwise cable from Ebay, and I got all what I need. With the two cables I got now it is not possible to test unstacking. With the three cables and three 3750 switches it should be more fun.
Stackwise video #2 should be up in two weeks tops.
+Donkey Learning IT ... can i get any means to contact u directly??
If you really wish, just write me a mail or private message, you can get it from RUclips. However, personally I got no secrets what could not be put here in the comments section. In fact, I think this way other people can also learn more about the topic and express their opinion as well.
Good video. Unfortunately the Cisco model of switch that you have are very troublesome as they are known to go into failure after power down/on or during reload after being in long service. Cisco's had a few failures lately relating to a bad memory supplier and then on ASA and ISR clocking signal issues. In addition have you covered fake Cisco equipment and how to identify them? You are doing such fabulous work.
Hey @donkeylearningIT is the next video in this Stackwise technology series you spoke about available somewhere on RUclips?
Very detailed easily understandable video. Shame you didn't complete the series.
Wow amazing stuff. Can u please make the other 2 videos.
really good
Thank you
This is really a great video! I'm a cisco newbie and recently working on how to stack Cisco WS-C2960X switches. One is in production for years and now we need to expand another one. I was looking around your 2nd video but..... Is there a video from you for covering on how to "configure" after connected both switches via stackwise cable? thanks again for your great video!
Hi Jeff! Thanks for the comment. Sadly I never made the second video, since I am busy with my daily job and with other issues. Still, I have received so many comments on this video, that next month I will take the time and finally make it. Though, with the 2960X I do not have hands-on experience, since we use larger switches (i.e. 3700 series and above). Btw, does the 2960X have any L3 switching besides the inter-VLAN switching via virtual interfaces?
very nice,
Awesome Video!! Will you please share second part
Thanks for the comment. I will be moving this week to an other apartment, after which I can hopefully focus more time on making videos. If all goes right, I will make part2 as well.
@@DonkeyLearningIT Thank You So Much for replying to my comment:) Happy Moving:)
Great video. Do you have the other videos on this topic ready? I subscribed to your channel
Thanks for subscribing! I have parts of the second video recorded long ago, but in the meantime I have moved to an other country and got an other job, where I barely have time next to it to do my own things. I will definitely finish the second video on the configuration as well. It will just take some time...
@@DonkeyLearningIT , thank you very much. Looking forward to seeing the next videos, if you have time of course.
@@mahorinav Thanks for your encouragement. Trust me, I am also looking forward to finally sit down and produce new content.
@@DonkeyLearningIT , thank you my friend, I understand, no rush. I like your content very much.
You can get a Cisco core Switch with two blades and 7 slots of 48 gigabit ports each for about 1000 usd now
Yeah, times have changed. I guess if switches would be GPUs, they would cost more in the current market. Still, stackwise is not going away from old installations. People love it and use it all the time.
Doooooooooonkeyyy Style :p :D
We just put Cisco 3650 48 port then stacked them if you buy from reseller they're about £5-6000 get through eBay for £1500
For a used 3650 I find 1500 quids a bit too much, especially considering that they are EOS. Even if you would have purchased a refurbished unit from a Cisco certified reseller, you could have gotten probably a better deal.
Btw, are you happy with the 3650 series? Just asking, because I think that the 3750Gv2 would be a bit more future-proof, but this might be just my opinion.
this is for CCNP I guess
well explained though
+Kwok YU LAM
In real life deployments it is used so frequently in companies, that one does not have to go far, and he/she will bump into stackwise very fast.
Also, the Cisco curriculum is always changing, soon stackwise will be on the CCNA. In fact, if I remember correctly, it is already briefly mentioned even in the PDF which I downloaded covering the CCNA topics.
Very
Thanks for the comment! Though, I am not sure to what aspect of the video you are referring to.
great video but are you french :)
