Honestly been wondering how you only have 42K subscribers. Your content is so informative and just fun to listen to. Like Big Yellow did to Gen 1, your videos have been making me want to play Gen 3
Back when I played gen 3 OU as the modern gen, this thing was everywhere. It's crazy to see how much opinion has changed on it, and cool to see it being reinvented for modern play.
This used to be one of my go to Pokémon on stall teams during the netbattle days. Your videos are great and the nostalgia got me playing again. I’ve been put off by developments in recent gens and haven’t played serious since gen 5. Your content triggered me to play gen 3 OU again and it’s definitely the best gen in my mind. It definitely aged the best. Gen 5 was great because of all the meta shifts that happened due to new releases and DLC content, but I don’t think its replay value is as high compared to where gen 3 ended up.
Gen 9 ubers, ou, uu and nat dex ubers and ou are my favorites since they have most of my new favorites but gen 3 ou will always be the most fun to play for me. Firered and emerald were my favorites as a kid and even my in game emerald team i beat the e4 with was somewhat viable. Ttar, dusclops, forretress, swampert, metagross and suicune (obviously did some trading)
As a beginner to Gen 3 OU who has recently fell in love with it thanks to this channel, I'd love to experience some epic Dusclops gameplay. Does anybody by any chance have the team that was showcased in 7:00? I'd love to try it out on the ladder

Shadow ball, focus punch/seismic toss, substitute, curse with leftovers. I don’t play comp but i use something similar in battle frontier. Dusclopse is one of my favorites so it’s nice to see him getting some love (:
I used to run a Dusclops in Gen 6 doubles paired with slaking and doing skill swap shenanigans. You should have seen my buddy’s face when I took prankster off his sableye, gave it truant, and proceeded to priority will o wisp his whole team
I played gen 3 OU very shortly a while ago and Imprison Dusclops was one of my innovations that I brought to games. However, I wasn't very good at team building for the meta, much less a balanced team, but I did catch a Weezing on the switch and locked it out of Shadow Ball and Wisp. That was one of my highlights.
Only small bit of potential I can see is on a superman (4+ flyers/levitate to ignore spikes) that ALSO plays around sun with Moltres or something. (Tropius has chlorophyll). Those teams are usually weak to ice coverage though. It's probably not very good.
@@mastervolg8768 Don't put too much stock in that. There are a lot of mons that are potentially viable but have received little attention and experimentation. But I will say building in this tier is very difficult, even with years of experience playing it, so if you haven't had success yet that doesn't necessarily mean it's impossible and you never will. Sableye is a great example of a mon that would not have been ranked even just a year ago. Now it would be an oversight not to have it on a VR.
Though I don't do competitive, I used Gengar/Dusclops/Shedinja in battle frontier and it was quite fun. I ran curse/will-o-wisp/rest/protect with them to stall some mons that'd kill my other two.
So i had a dusclops with no direct attacking moves and paired it with a meganium that also had no direct attacking moves. Only leach seed for meganium and willo wisp, confuse ray, pain split for dusclops.
So there's been on tier 3 patron added since the last video, and the end screen has become magnificent. Maybe Jimothy just really likes Jolteon? Back to the theory factory...

Banette does have a niche as the only Ghost that can threaten to KO Pursuit Tyranitar. Ghost/Fighting coverage is nice and Wisp and Taunt is also hard to switch in against. It is frail and easily KO'd though Shedinja just gets OHKO'd by Sand so its unviable
@@jimothycool This is cool. I'm guessing there's probably some hyper specific team build from 2009 where someone got rid of ttar and then brought in shedinja specifically to fully counter some other niche backup win con they knew the opponent would bring that just so happens to not be able to kill shedinja when the game came down to the last 2 Mons. Is Ghost realy that good? Its possibly because its so rare, but from my Estimates its actually one of the worse Types in most Metas. Many Ghost Types whit good Stats just fail. I assume the lack or usefull Resistance, and Neutral Coverage beeing less valuable then super effective one drags them down. I actually think Ghost might be better, just because how rare they are, but I dont think they better then average.
It depends largely on how important normal immunities are in a given meta. Gen 3 only has rapid spin as a way to clear spikes (defog wouldn't be around until DPP), explosion is largely unnerfed (that only occurs in gen 5) which means it can punch through walls, and Snorlax is a legitimate threat in the meta. This makes ghost-types actually quite powerful. They're not perfect, of course. The physical/special split hasnt happened yet so most ghost-types are special attackers with a physical attacking stab, and the ghost-types available are few in number and kinda lackluster, even with their niches. It takes work to make Dusclops and Mismagius work in OU; not an impossible amount, and they're not as niche as, say, Porygon in gen 1 OU, but they aren't Gengar and that does unfortunately count against them. The physical/special split also works out for them a bit, though. Dark is special and the main pursuit user is Tyranitar, who can hit hard but isn't hitting as hard as it might if that pursuit scaled with its physical attack. Ghost type attacks, their other weakness, is again physical, which means the Pokemon who would have stab on it aren't getting the most out of it, and the ones who do have the right stats for it aren't getting stab. Finally, an important thing of note here is that most ghost-types in gen 3 are monotype. The only ones who arent are the Ghastly line (who only retain poison's psychic weakness due to levitate), Shedinja (not really relevant in any category, let alone universal sandstorm and spikes OU) and Sableye, who has developed its own niche as mentioned. This means most of them only really have ghost and dark type moves to worry about, which means in a lot of cases they'll be taking neutral damage. Again, there's always TTar to worry about, and being neutral to most things isn't actually always a good thing, but the combination of broad neutral resistance + spin and explosion blocking + utility moves like will-o-wisp makes them quite good in the generation. Edit: this is a laywoman's observation of the meta. Also gen 3 is /incredibly/ refined(? im probably not using the right word here, sorry) as it's a meta that had been around for a long time and people know what works best and how to EV around it. These Pokemon work because they can take that into account and be built around, say, the enemy Gengar probably having the investment to survive x or y at the cost of z, so to speak. And, of course, none of this is even bringing up that Gen 3 has fewer battle items for Pokemon to hold and how permanent sandstorm means most have to run leftovers anyway. That /also/ changes the impact of ghost-types, alongside a general roster that is just less powerful than future gens and makes the more fragile ghosts more viable.
