@@alejandrop.s.3942 Team Preview is when you get to see the opponent's team at the start and pick your lead. Not a feature until Gen 5! Not a Showdown invention.
I'd argue that team preview makes dug worse, since opponents will always be wary of its presence and can play smartly. This is pretty much exactly why team preview destroyed zoroark
I’ve theorized that former OU king Tyranitar, has made it’s way to the RU tier, only to defeat controversial Pokémon Iron Mugulis and it’s crew. Tyranitar’s typing makes it good against Iron Fellow and Spidops, and the SpDef boost it gets allows it to fair well against Mugulis. With a simple moveset of Rock Blast, Crunch, Earthquake and protect, it can defeat all 3, leaving only Garganacl and Old Money, which Iron Brian can go up against, to help our altruistic hero. Let’s hope Tyranitar and Iron Brian can end these menaces once and for all
Kinda interesting how buffing both entry hazards and pivot moves didn’t cancel out, and actually escalated the overall power level of the format in a lot of ways. Like, the intended counterplay to volt switch/u-turn was clearly supposed to be toxic spikes or stealth rock, but the two things kinda just ran parallel to each other and caused significant power creep. Less slap-fighting, more deciding games based on cutting-edge team building. Mixed attacking sets fading away and the rise of weather/terrain/etc centric teams are probably a consequence of power creep making less efficient/streamlined teams less viable
Ghost Types are also common in gen 3, most common being Gengar who only takes damage from Sand, Burn and direct attacks. Gengar also packs WoW to neuter physical attackers.
@@Imitationist pretty sure Gengar is the only common ghost type in Gen 3 singles. And as common as it is, a lot of Metagross and Claydol sets still choose to run Explosion anyway. I wouldn't have mentioned Explosion if it wasn't a commonly used move.
I think kind of shows that in the right context, even very op abilities can be healthy for the game. It seems that area trap is only op because the ability to switch got easier along with with dugtrio getting slightly bette. If switching moves never happen, area trap may be not oppressive, though I agree that be less fun for the game.
Love the gen 3 ou analysis. Really highlighted its differeneces from future metas and the explanations were quite thorough but also concise. Really like your vids!
I think because there are enough Pokemon in OU with the Flying type and or Levitate ability as well as the fact that Dugtrio cannot stat boost or do cheap moves like Wobbuffett.

I realized i was a pokenerd when I recognized Iron Brian's base stats as literally Dusk Mane Necrozma's base stats to the tee. I wonder if that has lore implications.
I think if Dugtrio is paired with a mon that has previously either cause some serious damage to the mon that Dugtrio needs to defeat but it can't OHKO by itself before being killed, or that it has performed some form of sacrificial move to dent the enemy's stats (memento, screech, tail whip...) it's a real deal (pure-clear body users tho) . Mostly likely yes. In later gens Dugtrio usually only was used to kill one mon on the opposing team and often already used single-use items (Focus Sash, Z Crystal) to achieve that.
