I can believe it. Employers are really bad abot paying what someone's worth. if they didn't have to pay minimum wage, a good many of them wouldn't pay that much.
I have potential for alot of OT. Last time I went a few weeks doing it I got burnt out. It started messing with my mind. I haven't done it in a while and I can't get myself to do it again. The money factor means nothing to me when it already feels hopeless/futile for a future. My mental health is important to me.
Exactly! So many jobs I've had that have tried to force the issue of working overtime forget about the employee's mental health. You have to do what's best for you and your mental health!
Overtime is not too bad for some folks in moderation I guess. But for me personally since I value my time more than giving uncle Sam more money, I will say very loudly "F Overtime"
We have an agricultural business and a big part of that is the farm. Very seasonal, long hours at several points of the work year. Our policy is that if you need time off for your family, one of our family, me or my older kids will hop in the equipment and give you the time you need off. We also close down the farming operations mid November through mid Febuary. It's a salaried job, their are 3 pay levels based on capability, from mid 40's, to 70, and 90k. We pay for all training / school you need to advance, you get a brand new high end pick up truck every 3 years to use as your own at the higher two levels. I worry a lot about how our demands affect our workers and their families. You can bring your kid to work with you and let them ride along. We do field meals and encourage families to join us. I have porta potties at every field. LOL, just stuff to make it better. Plus, it's all great equipment, comfortable, heated massaging seats, sound systems with blue tooth, it steers itself down the field. But I want you to care enough to make sure everything is working well, that we're not dumping grain out of the back of the combine. The technology makes it hard to do a bad job, alarms will start going off, the equipment will start texting me if it detects a problem. I've lost great workers over the years. One guy is swinging a hammer for a union making well over $100k and another is driving a semi for FedEx and also making well over $100k. I'd match what they are making quite frankly to get them back, but they just can't do the 60-80 hrs we put in during harvest. 3 months paid vacation or not.
Sounds like you're doing all the right things. Not that it's my place to say yea or nay to anything. Farming's a tough job anyway. Best of luck to you and your company.
Being a more free spirit than most this always been my problem. I don't mind it sometimes but some companies are greedy and want you to work 12 hours a day plus work 6 days a week. That isn't living. People laugh at others who choose part time so they don't have to work that much hours. I am in Kansas and this place is sort of dumb. It has it's pros but man it is like living in the 1800s.
I work ot at my job because I like my job and the ot is easy but I do it in moderation. If I do it it’s usually 5-10 hours a pay period, but the second I start feeling burnt out I stop for awhile. I have coworkers that do 20-40 hours of ot a check which is ridiculous. Also when you do a lot of ot they withhold more and you should get it back in a tax refund.
I worked a place where OT was mandatory. Now I'm somewhere it's completely optional. Unless I'm at a certain level of pay, I won't work anywhere that OT is mandatory or I didn't have the option if I need it. You lose money in taxes when you work a lot of OT, but even a little extra money was needed
Exactly. I knew people that worked so much overtime, it nearly put them in a higher tax bracket. Not to mention just the fatigue it puts on one's mind and body.
I like OT my company doesn’t do OT they do Double pay , I work at Silicon Valley Semiconductor company I make 150k base plus 10%+ annual salary bonus but if I work a extra day I can make close to 200k not including my bonus and stock shares or 401k match
@@demink he didn't design it that way. Overtime was never apart of his plan. It wasn't until the later centuries men would spend over 16 hours a day building giant monuments that caused health problems later on.
I've worked a couple of jobs like that. Which I think is almost worse, because there's a tendency to be 'creative' with how they are keeping track of the time worked. I once worked 12 days in a row, but it didn't put me into overtime because there was a schedule restart part-way through. So, I ended up working the last half of one week and the first half of another without a day off.
Getting taxed out the ass working overtime too
Exactly!
Overtime is the only time I get paid what I should get paid.

No one has ever said on their deathbed, "I wish I had worked more overtime".
I definitely agree with him. All your really doing is working overtime to pay more taxes
Exactly! I worked with a number of people that were more than a little surprised when they ended up in a higher tax bracket.

I can totally relate. No one has ever wished they'd worked more when they're on their deathbed.
Yep. My overtime was enough to make my tax guy go "dude, we gotta talk!" I essentially was in a less ideal situation because of overtime.
Exactly! Completely crazy.

Hey, to each their own. As long as you like it and it's not forced, it's all good.
Most places I worked were dicks about trying to force the issue.
I only take
Overtime when I need extra cash
I work on the weekends only
Nothing wrong with that, as long as it's your choice.
Did you record this in your parents basement??
No. But thank you for asking. Not that it has anything to do with the topic of working overtime. I appreciate your view.
