NOTES: SB10 - Ajamilopakhyana The last step before Moksha is Jnana, but what is it? It is Veda, which came from word, Vid which means “to know”, to know what? Life span is unknown, so it appears unachievable, then what is the solution, Tarunopaya? Some bhutas cannot even step towards Jnana, so will such ones never reach Moksha? For example, what Jnana can a spider get? Or an elephant? So, Vyasa revealed the secret to unlock these tough questions. Akhyana is a story that truly occurred, it’s not a fairy tale. Sargascha Pratisargascha Vamsho Manvantaranicha Vanshanu Charitam chaiva Puranam Pancha Lakshanam; which means Purana is the account of lives across several janmas that happened between Manvantaras. During birth and death, nobody accompanies, but all relations and bonds of bhutas (relatives, pets, enemies, slaves) exist as long as Srimannarayana stays in the heart (being alive). After that the body will be discarded in soil or in fire. So to teach the secret to achieve Purusharthas, Vyasa teaches that through the story of a great and pious story a maha purusha. Once upon a time in the city of Kanyakubhja (today Kannauj in UP), there was a great pious Brahmana, who was a scholar of all 4 Vedas, performed all rituals following dharma, 3 times a day performed Sandhya Vandana, taught Veda to several students, extremely devoted to Srimannarayana. As a coincidence, he became rich because of his punya, but always meditated in the name of the lord. He has a son named Ajamila, because of his past life’s punya, he took birth to such a great Brahman (after Upanayana, he wore Yagnopaveta, to become Dvija, means one with two births), studied all Vedas, followed peace and dharma prescribed by Vedas, always served elders and Gurus, had mercy on all bhutas, always spoke truth, won against lobha and other arishadvargas (performed charities forgetting his security), always performed daily karmas and rituals (Nitya and Naimittika karmass) without fail, achieved many Mantra siddhis, was haven of exemplary habits, and filled his heart with Srimannarayana, married a beautiful and chaste wife, so he was in Grihastashrama. This means, he already climbed lot of steps, has all eligibilities to earn Jnana and on the verge of attaining Moksha! 2. Kapila Gita already explained how infancy, childhood and old age are worthless for Bhakti. So, only youth is the time when human has time and energy to devote his heart in Srimannarayana. Instead he wastes time and energy in seek of money, tastes, pleasures, Prithvi Vikara. Youth is like river in flood, if the banks are not bolstered, it may wash the whole village. Panchendriyas can be used for pleasures, or for serving Srimannarayana. Fly gets attracted to flame and dies (sight), hunters’ song attracts deer and falls in trap (hearing), elephant hunters arrange sharp items to attract elephant which likes to scratch to them (touch), fish in an open ocean deliberately comes and gets struck to the hook (taste), a bee gets attracted by the fragrance of a lotus and forgets to leave after drinking nectar and sleeps inside the flower that closes at sunset (smell). So Indriyas are like snakes controlled under feet, they can bit in an instance when we lose slight control, and they can throw down to even from the last step, like a huge snake which can throw down in Vaikunthapali or Paramapada Sopana (snakes and ladder). 3. One day, father asked Ajamila to go and bring kusha darbhas, flowers and few leaves for next day’s worship. Collecting darbhas, flowers and leaves is a great skill, prescribed by Vedas as Kushagra Buddhi (cutting but not killing, eg. Hanuman said I broke branches but not killed any plant/tree). On his way back to home, Ajamila heard a sound which was like drinking something and sighs of satisfaction. This sound attracted him, and turned head to see the source of that sound. There was a woman who took birth to perform extremely inferior deeds as a prostitute, she was holding a pot of alcohol, and she was naked who was repeatedly uniting with another inferior man who also was drunk. He saw this till thy left the place. This sight was struck in Ajamila’s mind. He came back to home, performed daily rituals, when he held water in palm, instead of seeing Gayatri, he saw the scene what he saw in the forest. He remembered all dharma and shlokas to control his mind, but failed to bring his conscience back, which means the control of the snakes of Indriyas took control of him; Indriya Laulya/addiction had victory over such a great and righteous Ajamila. One night, he left parents and such a beautiful and chaste wife, and reached that prostitute. She asked him to drink alcohol (rasa indriya), left Nitya karma, Sandhya vandana, Veda, shikha, Yagnopaveta, Srimannarayana worship, left old parents and wife. He did not leave his father’s aishwarya; he forcefully took all money from home and gave to that prostitute. He gave birth to 9 children with that prostitute, which means he spent so many years with her. Eventually he lost all money and finally became a thief. Totally he became bhrashta, but did just one good deed, he named 9th son, Narayana. He used to call him, Narayana.. Narayana.. Accepting patni through marriage is called dharma patni because all Indriyas are satisfied through dharma patni, which is as prescribed by Vedas. Prahlada also asked his father, you tell I won everyone, did you win your Indriyas? 56:36 enta abhutamO Potana gari yee padyam! "lOkamulanniyun gelicinADavu indriyAnIkamu cittamun geluva nEravu ninnu nibhaddu cEyu bhIshaNa shatruvulArvura prabhinnula cEsina prANikOTilO nIku virOdhi lEDokkaDu nErpuna cUDumu dAnavOttama" 4. There is one thing which never stops for anyone, howmuchever great or worst one is, it is Kaala (time). It doesn’t stop to save a great person, or runs fast to end the life of a bad person. Time has no raga-dhvesha on anyone. On the death bed, which eventually comes for everyone who takes birth, called ‘Maha Marana Kaala’, is when he cries remembering all his sins, and time he wasted without taking the name of Srimannarayana. During the time of death, 10 airs in body: Praana, Apaana, Vyaana, Udaana, Samaana, Naaga, Koorma, Krukara, Dhanajaya, and Devadatta, except Vyaana escape first, eye sight dims and gets withdrawn into the heart, so does all Indriyas. Jeeva in the heart knows that he cannot face extremely dangerous looking Dootas of Mrityu, for all the sins he did while alive, and tries to escape from any vent in the body, including hair follicles. Nobody accompanies him at that moment, and even while alive, relatives may take him out from bed and put him on floor. In such a moment, if he remembers the name and the holy feet of Srimannarayana is spared of Yama Yaatana. Nobody can do it for you, but yourself, like we have to eat to satiate out hunger, same way Bhakti also has to be self-earned. Ajamila spent all his life this way, and in the old age during his death, he was still in love with his earthly relations, in that love towards his youngest son, and in his final breath, he called him, NARAYANA! (not Srimannarayana but his son named Narayana). 5. Immediately, four great men with Divya Teja, wearing yellow silk, smiling, with four hands, holding sankha-chakra-padma in hands appreared in front of Ajamila and asked Yama Dhutas to undo their chains. Ajamila asked them, there is no other human as worse as me who left Dharma and Veda, how to I deserve your appearance, and whether untying Yama Pasha is dharma and who are you? They said, we are Vishnu Parshvadas (Vishnu Dootas), we came from Vaikunta. They said, you are talking about the sins and adharma of this janma, but we are now talking about his past 10 million lives, which all got erased because he took the name of Srimannarayana in Maha Marana Kaala. Because of Hari naama vibhuti, all sins of his past 10 million lives were burnt. 1:13:17 Potana padyam on Hari Naama Kirtana. They said, Hari Naama kirtanas is the forest fire in the forests of sins equivalent to brahma hatya (killing a brahman) pathaka. Hari Naama Kirtanas are the peacocks that can kill the snakes of sins performed towards Guru. Hari Naama Kirtanas are lions that can kill the elephants of sins madhupaana (drinking alcohol). Hari Naama Kirtanas can make a human reach the position of Brahma or beyond to get Moksha. Human do good deeds to get punya and do bad deeds to get sins, for every 1 punya, he earns 1 million sins. It is extremely difficult to equate them by following dharma alone. So the easiest detour, Tarunopaya to escape is Hari Naama Kirtana. When can you take the name of Srimannarayana? Answer is anytime, in any condition, for any intention; Draupadi called Govinda when she was rajaswala without bath or piousness, but Krishna ran to rescue her. After 1000 years of struggle with crocodile, Gajendra called Srimannarayana who ran to rescue him. Satkarma (good deeds) pleases the lord that results in Punya, whereas Naama brings Naami!
1:20:48 - kUlina cOTa koTTABaDina cOTa.. One should take the name if you slip and fall down, if you are hit by other person, in pain, in disease (maha jwara), if you fall in a stampede to earn some earthly things, in dream, if you even call your kid with name of Srimannarayana, while playing, while teasing, while reading poems or prose or stories or singing or debating. Remembering Kamala Nayana makes one Kalusha Hara! 6. Hearing to this, Yama dhutas untied their pasha and left. Vishnu Parshvadas did not take him to Vaikunta. They gave some time to Ajamila to see what he does now after coming back from death bed. Now he should reach Vaikunta, not that someone takes him. Immediately Ajamila said, I’ve been the worst human to perform several adharma and ignored Veda and forgot to hold Srimannarayana alone in my heart. He said, I took the name of Srimannarayana just once and pushed death, I will burn my sins by holding onto the great devotees who always take His name while taking and leaving a breath, and will apologise for all my sins. Satsang with those who always take the name and attribute everything to Bhagavan are inexhaustible treasures of Punya, they are gardens of flowers that lay the path to Moksha, and they are strong forts through which the group of six enemies (Arishadvarga) can infiltrate. After hearing the conversation between Yama dhutas and Vishnu dhutas, Ajamilo climbed all steps at once, which he fell down for being slave to his Indriyas, so vairagya can come in one second by repenting his mistakes, which is attaining Jnana and left to banks of Ganga in Haridwar and meditated Srimannarayana by filling his heart. Once he did this, Vishnu dhutas reappeared and took him to Vaikunta and united with Srimannarayana (Moksha)! 7. Yama dhutas asked Yamadharmaraja whether taking name of Srimannarayana can send us back. He called all dhutas and said, Prayaschitta is like washing a vessel of alcohol with Gangajal, concecrating it with all mantras, and after it, if the pot is used again to fill alcohol, the act of Prayaschitta is futile, whereas if alcohol is not refilled, the vessel can stay pure. Holding on to the name of Srimannarayana is like fire that burns all sins. Yama said, you (dhutas) can immediately bring few people: those who even for fun never take the name of Indira Ramana but talk nonsense, those who do not see the feet of Srikantha even in their dream, those who give judgements on the scriptures and Vedas, those who do not keep a step inside a temple but walk everywhere, those who do not respect Maha Bhagavatas, those and those encouraging them. But don’t bring those who are holding on to the name and meditate on the feet of Srimannarayana, even if their time of death approaches, separate them gently from their body. Ajamilopakhayana is a great Akhyana that describes the importance of Hari Naama.6. Hearing to this, Yama dhutas untied their pasha and left. Vishnu Parshvadas did not take him to Vaikunta.

I am 21 years old. I am an engineer and I strongly believe in science. But I always chant lord Narayana name (always means always, every day, every hour, literally) and yet I have doubt about god’s existence. Why do I have that? Any one in similar situation?
