- Marty at his emotional best singing with great sincerity this moving song. I don't know who recorded the song previously, so maybe someone out there can give some information about it's origin.
*I'm reliably informed by Herman from the Netherlands that this is an old Jimmie Davis song that dates from 1942.
Thanks for that Herman.
Marty had the most wonderful voice,so full of emotion, nobody else will ever beat it,and his songs where magnificent RIP Marty, thank God for your music.
WHAT A SONG!
What a singer..what a voice
I'm absolutely taken by Marty's voice love this man and his music
Can listen to him singing for hours
Just so beautiful can listen for hours
Just wonderful have been listening all afternoon never get enough
For me country music died with this man, he really was the best.
I agree with you Zane. It died that day for me as well. Such a loss!
Zane Starr his memory will never die
u agree the best singer ever
I knew him and there hasn't been a day since his death that I haven't missed him. He had that effect on a lot of people.
He is just THE BOSS in my opinion.
Maybe the only Country singer you could put on & listen to all day long.
I grew up listening to Marty Robbins from my pre teen years, No matter how I felt, listening to Marty sing would always cheer me up, Saw him in concert once, right after he hit the wall and busted his tail bone in a NASCAR race, I always called him Old Golden Throat, still my all time favorite country singer. A class act all the way. RIP Marty, you are sorely missed,.
This touches my heart and really stops me in my tracks. Modern country can't do this. Thanks for this video!
You were /are something else Marty , thank you for the pure joy you bring .
Just wonderful
I had an old rather scuffed 45 record of Eddy Arnold singing this song some years back that I have searched for to replace after loosing it and my whole life after a ravaging house fire that robbed me of everything I treasured so in this world. I know they were just 'things', but I miss the the life I had before that terrible day...
I first heard the song many, many years ago by Wilf Carter. And I believe it was written by Jimmie Davis, the gentleman who wrote You Are My Sunshine. But always been one of my favorite songs for as long as I can remember.
Beautiful song, wonderful man I met Marty twice.still missed ❤️ him.
Such a beautiful voice...love his songs...come from the heart and soul.
Thanks for posting this beautiful song by Marty..
As always,he nailed this one, too. Thanks,Tarquin, first time I've heard this in years.
I never saw him before lately but his wife was interviewed and it was a great lady. I just wanted to check him out and he was a great guy. Never any issues about ever getting to have scandals

Yes, tarquin45, it was written by Alberts McEnery and Jimmie Davis. Another great song by Marty. Thanks ever so much.

I was so fortunate to see this guy live at the Borehamwood Hertfordshire Civic hall in the early 90’s fantastic guy great singer ❤️😘😘😘😘
He died in December 1982.
If you saw him in the 90's that must have been some story!

Wonderful singer
I believe there was a Japanese Country singer in the 60's called Eddie Fukano who appeared in Marty's movie 'From Nashville With Music.'
Unfortunately, his appearance was cut out of the movie for some reason.
tarquin45 i
@cariboubill Hey Bill- That would be wonderful! I haven't been able to find it so far.... That old saying "I don't understand all I know about computers" is so true for me! Ha ha!
I really appreciate your time and trouble.
Thanks again
Great song life on rock
Would love to hear him singing Mississippi River Blues....think they took it off of YT
You don't blame any one, your future's, in yoyr hands
It is my pleasure to pass on the little information I know about Marty Robbins and his longest playing pedal steel player. What has always astonishes me is that not very many pedal steel players ever seem to acknowledge the tremendous input Bill Johnson gave on the Marty Robbins show. Perhaps someone knows where he went after leaving Marty's band. At any rate, it is highly instructive to watch his technique, from which I have yet a great deal to learn.
The terrifically sensitive and imaginative steel player here is Bill Johnson, who passed away in March of this year. Watch how he uses the B and C pedal when he goes into the A chord on the 17th fret and also on E at the twelfth fret. A superb player. Tim.
Tim Mercer. B.
Marty had the best backup group.
Bill Johnson by God
You are right, we've been looking for a copy of the material that was cut as well. Eddy Fukano's album was Eastside West. Also looking for Hee Haw & other tv episodes he may have been in.
Wonderful song tarquin45! Thank you so much for the post!
Does anyone have any idea where I could find the chords for this song? I can't even find the lyrics..... Pout, pout... :-)
Thanks again
@buddyzroadie / Hey, Buddy, did you ever find the chords and lyrics to this song? I have the song posted on my channel. I was singing from memory, so some of the words are different from Marty's. Give it a listen. If you still want the words, I could try to post them and try to put in the chords, too.

Dear QWZXM,
Sometimes the title of a song, if it is redolent of religious connotations, makes listeners steer clear of it.. The close ups of Bill Johnston on steel and the nice use of pedals B and C encouraged me to give it a bash. as usual, the band's balance is impeccable, something which has sadly been lost today or conferred to automatic settings. Bill Johnston's close ups opened up a whole new ball game for decyphering and transcribing.
Thanks so much for your encouraging comment.
TIM.
@buddyzroadie / Buddy I just posted the words and chords on my channel. You can find them under my post of the song. You may want to correct the words according to the version that Marty sang, If you want to transpose to the key of G
C=G,C7=G7, F=C, G7=D7. Please let me know if this works out for you. It's kind of an experiment on my part

What he done wrong Marty nothing wrong with him
Nice song in a secular sense, but wrong in a theological sense. We are all sinners, Christ does indeed listen to and answer our prayers (though obviously not always the way we want).
An unrepentant sinner perhaps -but God listens for us all (?)
Words of wisdom John
i love the tune but goddamn, thats some good ol' christian intolerance :D
