Absolutely loved this!! You gave me the inspiration to redo the old planners I couldn't throw away!! And it's so fun knowing it was almost trash and you revived it! How fun!!
I used a disk punch with recycled paper for 3/4 of 2024 for my sketchjournal. I started out with a selection of my favourite papers from my stash - ranging from watercolour, to scrapbook papers, to recycled paper bags. I "shopped my stash" to beef it up, and then I added or removed as I figured out what I loved most. I mostly loved recycled bags and cardstock for drawing, scrapbooking and everything else for journaling. However there was a massive crossover when I just used what I had available. Especially while I travelled. My sketchjournal lean towards junk journaling as well, so it made it easy to add those items and pages.
That’s brilliant I love building my own journals too & creating on a wide variety of papers it helps to expand creativity & improve learning curve on how various mediums work in various substrates with the bonus of being more economical & more eco friendly too 😍😍
I love the way you reinforced the holes. I’ve done that forever and never have seen anyone else doing it. I’ve also used bright colored and designed hole protectors
Same here, that "just right" calendar/planner/journal (or calendarS/plannerS/journalS, lol) for the year. I've been making glue books from my old planners and wall calendars and loving that--getting to keep those favorites we so painstakingly picked out and loved up for the year...
These are lovely, especially love the two page spread! Definitely going to try this, I have SO many old planners I couldn’t bring myself to part with, now they can have a new life!!
Thank you for such a delightful tutorial. Iwas tickled to see you do a lot of the same things as myself . Also loved how you showed the three different styles of planners ❤❤ .
I am so glad that your video popped up on my feed. I do the same thing! Several years ago my stamping and card making crafts pivoted to add more mixed media into the mix. This made my supplies more versatile snd allowed for creativity. On a separate matter, I have always loved planners. I have had them my whole life. However, i never had the discipline to stick to it and year after year my planners sat mostly unused. Untill.....I discovered hthe Happy Planner System. I especially loved the vertical layout inthe mini size. This was absolutely perfect for my lifestyle as a busy mom of 3 very busy and active daughters. I did miss my gorgeous leather boujie planners, however the utilitarian and practicality of the HP made me actually use it. I have been super faithful every day since. Every year around the holidays all the stores have their planners (all brands and styles)super clearanced out since the year was ending. I always snag some of the ones that I think are pretty and in my style. As long as they are spiral or disc bound, I'll pick it up. These are only used for art journaling. With the spiral ones, I uncoil them, remove all the tabbed pages and combine several book together to make a BIG FAT CHUNKY Book using my Cinch Machine. (Sometime I cut off the spiral holes and repunch with my DISC punch to use my HP rings With my used HP disc bound, I purchased the special punch and giant discs to do the same concept. So basically my art journals are nothing but a bunch of repurposed planners.
Awhhh thank you .. I’m happy I popped up on your feed too 😍😍 … yes like yourself I have tried many planners & not so good at sticking to them .. great you have now found what works for you. & completely love that you have repurposed them into journals .. it’s such a good way of expanding creativity & being eco friendly too xx
Great use of your books from the planner graveyard 😮! I want also retain some of the information in these old planners as it can be kind of mixture of art journaling and memories ❤ Thanks live the 💡 ideas
Great video. I have several JMC stamps and papers and had decided to use one of my old Happy Planners as art journals. So your video has come at just the right time to inspire me! Tfs and Happy New year xx
I have my 2024 Josephine Wall 12×12 calendar and a Maia Toll one that I just took apart to save for either my 12x12 scrapbook or cutting or taring to use in my reading journal. The art is so pretty might as well get more use of it.
Wow i needed this video just not in the zone at the moment and taking a social media break however the ideas are snap crackle and popping as i look across at my part used journals xx I too love the back stories of the villains and was so surprised at how pink and girlie Red had been your new collection looks amazing I will definitely be keeping an eye out in store for that one. Happy New Year McNeill family and Julia thank you for this video ❤❤❤❤
Thank you … if you have no planners anything works old notepads or books do the same job what is quite nice is that you are never starting with a blank page xx
Loved this tutorial….my favourite page was the beautiful tree…looks very Japanese 💖….still trying to get my head around an art journal….I bought one and have one page created….I’m struggling with the purpose…but that’s just me 🤣🤣🤣
I was the same when I started .. I could see the usefulness of cards as it was something to give to someone or sell although I never did much of it scrapbooking collated memories so it took me a while to get into journaling but when I did I loved it. It’s creating just for you so it’s freeing, it’s a place to experiment, learn grow it doesn’t need to be perfect as it just for you & no one needs to see it & often ideas that are born from in an art journal become craft projects that maybe seem like they have more of an obvious purpose xx
I have an old journal I can repurpose. I Bullet Journal in a blank book, and planners, though lovely, do not work for me and usually end up empty at the end of a year.
Yeah I’m not the best at keeping up with planners yet I still buy them every year in the hope I may eventually get organised…. At least they getting plenty use now as Art Journals 😂
What a great idea about using old planners 💗 I have 5 I just couldn’t bear to throw out and now I have a purpose for them! TFS 😘
Yaaay I’m so glad .. I think there are so many of us that hang onto our pretty planners this is such a great way of enjoying them all over again xx
Absolutely loved this!! You gave me the inspiration to redo the old planners I couldn't throw away!! And it's so fun knowing it was almost trash and you revived it! How fun!!

I love the way you reinforced the holes. I’ve done that forever and never have seen anyone else doing it. I’ve also used bright colored and designed hole protectors
Thank you .. yes the brightly coloured hole protectors would give a really fun element to the page .. I will have to give that a try xx

My journal that I use at the moment is an old diary from 2023 which is ring bound so I can add pages, its the one and only journal I've ever owned 😊
That’s awesome I love a bit of repurposing xx

Definitely nice to have personal memories on the backgrounds of your pages xx
GREAT ideas here, I'll be doing some of these for sure.
Glad you enjoyed xx
You can use a hole punch and scissors to make the slots for Happy Planner discs
Ooooh thanks for that suggestion that’s just saved me money 😍😍 xx
@JuliaMcNeillCrafts takes a little more time but I just can't see spending $30 on one of those if I can do it with what I already have😉
@ absolutely I would rather save my money and spend it on pretty art supplies instead 😆😆 xx
