    Hey Campoholics! Ever come across a Trashed Campsite? Bad Campground Etiquette? While staying at Gifford Pinchot State Park in PA, I was out doing my morning power walk and I came across a vacant site that had just been left by the previous tenant. Trash in the site parking spot caught my eye. As I looked closer into the vacant site I could easily see the camper did not care about cleaning up the site. Trash was all over the site and along the waters edge. The site tag stated that they were to check out the same day, so I figured I would give them till check out time at 3 to maybe come back and clean it up, although it was clear they had checked out. We went back at quarter till check out time and it was still not cleaned up. What's troubling is that the campground host put up the new reservation card on the post but did not inspect the site. We decided to take matters in our own hands and clean it up and report it to the Park Rangers and hopefully they will investigate further. How would you handle this? What measures would you have done to correct the issue? Have you come across bad campground etiquette? Tell us your story in the comments below. Share this video to promote awareness! Give Super Clean a try for your messes at the campground or even at home!

    As former hosts we always checked the site before a new customer came. However a site that dirty would get reported to the ranger and they would of been fined.

      That should be protocol. We were told the hosts don’t clean up sites at this park. But they could at least inspect it.

    There was a time, when we all lived in villages, when shaming a wrongdoer got results and was "the norm."
    I long for those days. People actually had Remorse back then! And taught their children to be civic-minded, moral little humans!
    Thank you both for doing your part to keep campgrounds clean. 🙂

    We just completed our 14th camping trip this season. We saw 2, only 2, camp hosts in 14 campgrounds, exit their RV while we were camped. Most are so old and feeble that it's basically a free place to live until they die. I kid you not!!

    Call her out and the lazy camp host. As being a camp host we ensure that the sites were clean. That is part of their job.

    • @TheCampoholics
      @TheCampoholics  3 года назад

      It is very upsetting. But like we mentioned, the host at this park do not pick up trash. However, if they could just get off the golf cart and inspect the site, that would be a little helpful.

    Yes, a fine should be imposed. Don't get me started. Oh no! The campground host did not do their job. Wait! When were you at Pinchot state park. I'm less the 30 minutes from there.😁 It's terrible, I've seen so many site just like that. It makes me crazy. Thanks for cleaning the site, but you should have let the host do their job. Thanks for sharing Mike and Missy. You two are awesome.

    I have arrived and found trash and dog crap in my site so many times during the past years, I can't even count them all. It's also rare to find a campground host who is concerned. The usual response from camp ground host is "If you don't like the litter and dog crap, pick it up".

    we have a 31 ft motorhome and when we pull out my wife checks the site. She walks around the whole area and picks up the smallest pieces of trash which do not belong in the wild. we just took a bunch of photos of the horrible trash around Wekiwa Springs Head Spring. I was so angry at the disrespect to the state park, nature and all there to enjoy, I was shaking I was so mad. The blairing music along with jumping and diving (both posted as do not do!) was the straw that broke the camels back. We left, 2 days in a row due to this. Not a ranger or staff member to be seen anywhere, except the kayak rental company and food vendor (both independents). Oy!

    Some people just don’t get it. We have beautiful state parks here in Pennsylvania. The camp host should be escorted to the main gate and asked to never return. Our favorite and closest is Promised Land State Park and I am happy to say that we have never seen a mess like that. Thank you for caring enough to take a few minutes to clean it up. Sit back and enjoy a cocktail of your choice and relax. You deserve it.

Thanks for watching and happy camping!

    My pop raised me to leave it better than I found it and I’m raising my kids to do the same. Last thing we do when we pack up is walk the complete site and pick up any trash, big or small. My kids know they don’t put trash on the ground and if they see any they pick it up. Hiking, fishing, camping. They pick it up.

    We would have done pretty much the same. It's getting to the point that there will have to be a post with "human trash" bags next to the "doggy poo" ones for people like us to have to clean up after the aho..s like that.

    • @TheCampoholics
      @TheCampoholics  3 года назад +1

      LOL I like the human bag idea!! Maybe the campground will have to hand out a trash bag when you check in! They do at COE parks actually, but sadly when we checked into our last COE, the firepit is littered with trash so obviously they didn’t understand how to use a trash bag 🤨 . It takes a village and You Tube to call these people out I guess!! Take care!

    • @TheCampoholics
      @TheCampoholics  3 года назад

      Hello , we have an RV fridge. There’s pros and cons of both. We opted for the RV since we do a lot of boondocking and will run off propane when we can’t or don’t want to run generator. On the cob side , it’s smaller and more fussy with the temperature, residential fridge is usually bigger and has less temperature control issues than the RV ones, with that being said , we haven’t had any issues with ours once we had the seal flap corrected that was misaligned from the factory. When it comes down to it, it’s a personal preference in my opinion! Good luck 🍀

    Really? You have no idea who trashed it in the first place. Great you picked it up (we do the same when we have time to do so) but shaming her is no bueno unless you saw the campsite before she arrived and after she left.

    One point I made to many of my former students was “if you are going to point fingers, count the number pointing back”. In today’s world, many people have not experienced positive teaching moments. Maybe, just maybe, the previous campers did not have such an experience. What happen to finding out the facts before making accusations?
    Remember, ones approach is worth a million dollars (notifying park officials). Wouldn’t it have been easier to do your good deed for the day and move on? Life is short and why blow a gasket.
    Did I hear right when a comment “people suck”? Humm
    Some RV RUclipsrs seem to be driven by drama. Yep, drama brings viewers. How about spinning such a video in a positive manner, like a teaching moment?
    Just my two cents worth.

    • @nict9790
      @nict9790 3 года назад +1

      Wow Really

    • @mischiefroadtripadventures
      @mischiefroadtripadventures 3 года назад

      Pokin', I agree with you. Unless those campers were actually seen creating the mess, it's wrong to just assume. However, if the camp hosts or Ranger were notified, maybe they could verify the facts.
      Best thing is to clean it up, report it and move on. I get what they were trying to do in the video but the point was missed that - instead of shaming without facts, helping to clean it up and showing what a different experience we can give to other campers by leaving our campsites clean is the better option.
      These other comments shaming for disagreeing with the video shaming are quite ironic and uncalled for. Sad - I'm sure you will angrily disagree with me as well.
      Again, I understand the disgust and anger at seeing trash left at a campsite. This is happening way too often. It has been compounded by the increase in RVers and campers so we will all run across it. I almost think the only way it will be curtailed is if the site is checked out on departure- if it's left a mess, charges will be assessed unless the camper leaving makes it right.
      Bottom line - see something (trash left in a campsite), say something (report it) and/ or do something (clean it up).
      It is a good reminder that we all have to be responsible.

    • @TheCampoholics
      @TheCampoholics  3 года назад +3

      Thanks for watching, we did everything you mentioned in the video, if you payed close attention to the video the moral of the story is to raise awareness and this needs to stop and if this helps then so be it! We just checked in to another campground today with the same problem, trash left in fire ring and it’s been reported again . If we keep making excuses for this behavior it will not stop unfortunately. If we really wanted to shame we would have left it AND used her full name and address in the video since she left her tag on the camp post 😉

      Seemed like teaching moment to me. You are making an excuse for a potential violator are you?
