It's so refreshing to see a dad that just accepts that his children are gonna be noisy even when he's recording. He's not freaking out, he doesn't yell at them, he doesn't go on and on about how 'annoying' they are, etc. He even interacts and includes them. It's so sweet.

Ken is such a healthy dad, him.just carrying on while his son played the recorder gave me wholesome vibes 🥺 my dad would've yelled at me and taken it within a min.

He’s just so caring and patient, something I never grew up with, something I hope to be when I have children (hopefully).

its gonna be interesting when these kids develop their own combined american-australian accent.
I have a friend who's dad worked in the US for about 6 years, so they lived in DC before moving back here to Ireland, and she picked up a bizarre Irish-American accent. She's lost it now but for the majority of what would be middle school, random words and phrases would be almost full American and then back into Irish. She'd say things like couch instead of sofa, but then hoover instead of vacuum.
I'm French and my husband is English so our kids are bilingual but not 100%. My oldest mostly speaks English but she puts a couple French words in her sentences like "look, it's a chat (cat)" 😂 or she'll speak French to me and English to her dad. I love it
Some Australians already have mixed accents with American anyway because we have a lot of American tv shows, especially the kids stuff. Speaking from personal experience as I've had people ask me if I'm American and I'm aussie born and raised. Though not a lot of people in my state have that classic Australian twinge in their accents anyway.

@@XxAsherBearxX Yeah, older people have asked me if I'm American, but I think it's cuz I watch a lot of American RUclipsrs and I sometimes say words with an unintentional American accent. Mostly happens with words that contain "R".

The issue with the vaccine in Australia is that we currently only have 2 currently approved. One has only been approved for older people, and the one that has been deemed safe for everyone is currently only produced overseas so we have only a limited supply of it. As soon as we get a higher quantity supply or a local manufacturer then we can all start getting it more confidently
The release of them has still been super slow relatively even with supply issue's
cargo being backed up probably isn't helping 😔

I am kinda invested in Raffi's eyesight. I had to wear glasses since I was 2½, because I wouldn't even recognize my parents.

He has some pretty thick lens so it seems that he has a pretty high prescription.
It's most likely to be genetic as Ken also has glasses and having eye prescription is heavily dependent on genetics.
Though having a high prescription ay such a young age is not normal though not serious either

I got my first pair of glasses at 18 months. I feel this so much.
It was the same here, I've needed glasses since I was a toddler and was farsighted for a long time until around 10-12 My eyesight went to normal and then went to severely nearsighted. I can't do anything without glasses or contacts. I hope it gets better as he ages up but even if it doesn't he's loved so so much by his parents and all the Toasty fans.
My niece was the same way. I think she had them since one. She’s almost 30 now and she can just wear contacts so she doesn’t have to wear thick glasses anymore. So hopefully he won’t have to wear huge, thick glasses his whole childhood. He looks so cute in them now but as he gets older kids may tease him.

Best of luck mate, glad to see everyone is doing well. As a Victorian it was weird to other states copping a lockdown and it finally wasn't us this time. I may be wrong on this but I thought you could get border crossing exemptions if you are moving house, rules keep changing though so who knows. Hope you have a safe trip down here and welcome to Australia :)
I’m pretty sure they would have to do a second 14 day quarantine if they came down now. It’s probably just more convenient to wait until NSW numbers are lower and the borders open again.

I am astounded with that. Anyone here can walk down to a pharmacy and get it. I wonder why the rules over there are so different? Many countries have had full access.
Would you be willing to say what the restrictions are for the lock down? Is it just the "Don't leave your home unless for necessary items"?
@@jess.0J goverment rollout is so terrible, that not only are there very few vaccinations in circulation, but the many are suspicious of the main one in circulation (astrazeneca) after the government kept lying about it and backpeddling over it in order to not lose money on their investment, making the problem much worse than if they'd just told the truth and severely damaging peoples trust. (for context, they wanted to be able to produce it here and sell it offshore, caring more about the profit they could make than its actual medical merits, and denying the advice of other countries administering it worldwide)
Its a whole shitshow, the prime minister had a conference the other day where he basically said 'we have a plan, to make a plan' without being able to confirm any dates, initiatives or timeframes.
@@tiffanyandrade2705 Yeah so you can only leave the house for "essential reasons" but people are still out anyway. The beaches where I live are all still packed because the government has said people can go out to exercise in groups no larger than 10. Face masks are mandatory everywhere and restaurants are only allowed to do take away. The frustrating thing about this lockdown is that they've decided to do it at the same time the NSW school holidays are on.

This winter has been unusually warm and sunny though. Like genuinely scary for our environment, its usually pouring rain constantly where I live and we’ve only had a few days of bad rains and winds
weather in melbourne is awesome tho from memory - actually "cold" but it is very bipolar sometimes you get all 4 seasons in a day lol i would move there but melbourne is super expensive to live in lol defs the one of the best cities tho

We in the civilized world don't really empty our pockets when having a baby. Some places, like I'm at, there is a set fee for all appointments and procedures ($40, free rest of the year after you've spent 300), other places are completely free.
Due to babies not happening on schedule most people here have their babies in public hospitals, unless they've scheduled a cesarean, so it will pretty much be free, especially since his wife is Australian. If she wasn't there would be expenses.
I'm curious to see if Ken starts to develop a bit of an Australian accent as time goes on.
Edit: My initial comment didn't accurately convey my point. It's common for us to subconsciously mimic the sounds we hear around us so it's possible Australia could have that effect on Ken.

I lived in Germany for years and I still have an American accent.

Weird question, but how did you handle moving with the dogs and the snakes? Did you relocate all the animals somewhere?
When I moved my cat and dog from germany, there were vaccination requirements and a health check they needed to pass. If not, they can either get denied access to the country or get put under a mandatory quarantine. Every country has different requirements but hopefully this can provide some kind of idea of what they possibly had to do 😊
You can only keep native snakes in Aus so a lot of the snakes wouldn't be able to be brought in.

Tip: Tell him when he's squinting. Squinting will make the eyes worse. And I know from experience.
I've worn glasses for a majority part of my life. I'd get my eyes checked, sit down in front of the TV for two weeks while squinting. Then my eyes got worse. Somehow. But, its because I was squinting. Since I've figured that out (when I was 16-18 years old), my eyes haven't worsened drastically in two weeks while waiting for my glasses. My prescription has stayed fairly consistent for the last 8-9 years of my life.

I love watching your vlogs, really wholesome and inspiring. In the next couple of years I'm gonna be doing a big move of my own, not out of country. But moving from Utah to Minnesota with some friends. But watching these help me not feel as overwhelmed about it. So thank you for being a great family and inspiration to make big choices and go with the flow.

Where I am in Australia it was -8°c when I got up this morning.
It's been low to mid 20s C where I am all week due to rain. This morning it dropped to 5C cause it's sunny, but it's creeping up. Currently 14C at 9.30am. Winter here doesn't know what it's doing
I live in south Sydney and yesterday people were swimming at the beach and lots of people were out. Winter here isn’t really even cold, it can depend where you live but most places stay pretty warm

Enjoy the almost freedom we have. I'm in Melbourne and we're functioning fairly well.
I'm going to be following in Mary's footsteps in October, moving from Melbourne to the US (Chicago, specifically) to be with my gent. Doing all the logistical stuff now is bonkers, and I don't know how you guys have retained any sanity, especially with kids involved and a baby on the way. It's hard enough with just my stuff and working around the 15 hour time difference. Many, many phonecalls between 1am-5am Melbourne time. 😴 (Tonight is one of those nights, but I'm procrastinating a little)
Hopefully you'll be allowed into Victoria soon. You might be able to get an exemption if you have proof of moving into a new home. NSW government will be really unhelpful, but try contacting VIC government at Treasury Place... Just a thought. Play the two kids and third trimester cards, and Victoria should send you the border crossing exemption.

Yeah aussie has done the teir system of vaccinatingl like new zealand. Started out with old people and health care workers. Then its in age blocks going down in age. My sister is in melbourne hoping to come back to NZ tomorrow for a holiday to visit everyone for 2 weeks, so hoping melbourne doesnt go into lockdown.

My kid is albino so we've had a lot of eye appointments. It's frustrating when you get a new Px and then your kid tells you they see better without the glasses....ugh. Here's hoping you have the smoothest transition possible. Never moved to a different country, but it sounds rough. Love you guys. ♡

the dogs most likely will be coming over but for the snakes im not sure depends on the environment people to see if they are allowed them
@@Rixxalight australia is super strict about which animals you can keep, and afaik you can’t keep any reptiles that aren’t native, because a lot were never brought to australia in the first place and we don’t need invasive species escaping and breeding and further ruining our ecosystem

Yep I think Gladys will extend it today, even with the minor drop in new case numbers yesterday, the fact that new cases are popping up a week after lockdown started I think will extend it for at least one week if not more.

Welcome to Australia!! Unfortunate that you guys arrived in the first Syd lockdown in like a year, and you can't enjoy Sydney much before you guys for Melbourne. Don't know about everyone else, but I'm excited to have one of my favourite youtubers so close to home, even though itmeans you and Buff are now doing long-distance.
