What it's like to do a Track Day on a SV650

- It's pretty rare that anyone in the top group at a track day has less power than I do on the SV650.
Being at a 40-140hp disadvantage from some of the other riders out there can be pretty painful.

Hey if you're having fun that's all that matters, 70HP is enough to get up to fun speeds. Really your only problem is being constantly passed and blocked by people you've overtaken 10 times each
It's definitely fun! When you're racing it's a bit harder because you can't just go through the pits to find clear space.
gives better skill and much more gratification when you overtake a big bike mid circuit. the straight is the only spot the sv650 struggles on that track. Still plenty of fun hitting 200
Respect to the SV riders!
Know how you feel, I ride a TRX at track days and stick to the second fastest group because with 80 HP you get blown away on anything that resembles a straight. But very satisfying rounding them up in the corners.
These days I'll just go for a quick trip through pit lane if I get stuck with riders like that, come back out in some clear space so I can go and have some fun!
Even as a novice on a Monster 797, I come up to people on "fast" bikes extremely quickly at corners. It's actually quite dangerous because they may get unsettled and change lines across me, I have to watch for that.
0:55...the other rider has half a leg! Good to see him still out there having fun.
He is an absolute legend of a human! Determination, and a hell of a lot of skill!
Oh wow. I knew they'd pull on you through the straights but damn! They literally teleported.
Yeah mate, the top speed difference at SMSP is crazy. I top out at about 220km/h, the Supersport bikes are somewhere between 240-260km/h depending on the spec and the Superbikes can do upwards of 300km/h
@@BB22Racing top speed on the sv650 is 220km/h?
@@diegoluna9211 I recently just hit 230km/h at Phillip Island, but consistent top speeds are about 220km/h.
@@BB22Racing thats about 120 mph
@Adrenalean767 no, I have a 1997 bandit 600 and a week after my test I got 130mph from her on the motorway in the uk. Speedo is in mph and inside the speedo was kmh. It was 130mph and 200kmh. So 230kmh is a bit more. Actually its 140mph 😊
This sport is not about de horse, is about the cowboy.
A teenager riding a Moto3 Championship with 50hp is SO MUCH faster than we all on ours 200 hp superbikes...
Tracking my 2nd gen. next year, can't wait.
Going to enjoy a few more track days on my track tuned R3, and then get a SV650 to shred in intermediate. 🤙🏼
That's a great plan! Learning the fundamentals and honing the skills needed to go fast on limited power is certainly well worth the effort, and rewarding!
that bmw is literally the definition of what i hate, gets upset because you overtook him and completely ego sends it up the inside next corner. some smooth riding though man! need to learn to carry more speed like you do.
BMW drivers in cars or on bikes... I guess they both drive the same 😂
Often I'd agree! But context here, I know that rider well and we have fun on track together 💪
I'm so stoned my brain can't work out if this is real or a really good graphics mod for something like Ride 4 lol
its real
That dude on the left totally flexed on you with that wheelie.
He's a pretty fast rider, we had a good laugh about it afterwards.
@@BB22Racing lol Nice
Yep... that looks familiar... 😊 That looks like an awesome track, by the way. 👍😎
Sydney Motorsport Park, previously known as Eastern Creek Raceway.
Very close to rgv250 back when , you always stay tight on turn 12 on that sucker and let em go and round up those you can out the back
Nice riding and getting past the 1000cc bikes with two or three times the power of the SV650
Thanks!
Hilarious. Love to see it.
I’ve seen good riders on SVs trounce average riders on big hp bikes. It’s all about the rider.
If you want to be humbled, watch a pro rider can do on a Kwai 300.
For us mere mortals, it’s all about just having fun.
MT07 at knockhill. Had a great time. 74bhp.
That's great! I'd love to get over to the UK to ride some of the tracks there, they're epic!
Funny to see people on 100hp+ just able to get away on straight lines! lol
Is your SV LAMS restricted?
Also Im curious as to why the SV seems so much better in corner speed than the 600's? Or are you just a fab rider?
It was a LAMS bike, but used the Woolich racing auto-tune to remove the restrictions.
I need all the corner speed I can use on the 650 as you can tell. I tend to ride a line that focuses more on corner speed. This track day was also one of the first after our lockdowns in Sydney, so I think that we were all a bit rusty.
SV has better throttle reaction so it launches like a missile at exits of every corner, it weigh less and has less amount od rotating parts
@@tomb9090 doesn't weigh less, unless been on a strict diet!
Hey mate are you still riding your SV? Be good to meet you at SMSP and get some tips from you on SV lines
Yep, I still have the Gen1 and Gen3. Prepping them for St George in a few weeks so I haven't been able to get out on track recently apart from a SWR day at SMSP South Circuit.
Yeah, come and say hi if you're around, I'm always happy to talk about bikes!
What a great track, where is this?
It's Sydney Motorsports Park! Previously known as Eastern Creek Raceway, when Grand Prix raced there. It's a great track.
Chester Cheetah needs to speed up!!
The SV just needs 1 more gear! Crazy how the SV corners, I have one for street but I have been debating on getting a 600. Any thoughts on this? The stock forks on the SV are awful but I don't want to upgrade because it can go towards a 600.. I never rode a 600 nor know anyone that has one.. I have a blast with the SV no doubt.. I'll tell you what, if someone could somehow pump another 20hp in the SV you have something going on for the straights, obviously the charm of the SV is the handling. I also heard its hard to get anymore HP from a SV besides an exhaust.
There's plenty you can do to a SV to get more power, but for big gains you're needing at least a 677 kit in it. Some of the bikes out of the UK and US are pushing 90+ hp (stock is around 72).
For starting out on track a SV is brilliant, they're nimble and forgiving. Personally I think that a supersport bike on the road isn't the best, the position is a little bit too aggressive for me
So true. Hilarious…🤣
What a nice track. Where is this?
SMSP in Sydney
What camera you use?
Go Pro Hero 7 and Hero 8. These videos were a little bit lower quality than my normal shots because of how they were set up on the bike.
your on too big of a track! go to the mountains with Busch!
do you ride the stock suspension?
No, my Gen3 has Matris shock and Matris carts and my Gen1 has Matris carts and Ohlins shock. I did race for a long time on my Gen1 with Racetech emulators in the front, but the carts were a big upgrade.
@@BB22Racing which Matris carts do you use?
@@shortreadshorts I think they're the F15S132K.
guy was a bit shit for overtaking pre corner then jamming the brakes. but great video!
This is our Super Secret test track 😉
I share your thrills, check out my vid on my bandit 600 🤘
Why not get on a REAL BIKE and ride?
Where's the fun in doing the norm? (I've had R6s and an RSV4 before, I love racing the Supertwins/Twins Cup class
