Honestly I strongly felt the same way but more towards gaming afterwards. We had the first successful CD based game console going head to head with the last successful cartridge based game console. Both consoles has many advantages over each other. We are still getting games ported from both systems to this day. Personally I have to go with PS1 for a few key reasons. Overall better audio, more variety of games, better controllers and a more unique memory unit aka memory cards.
"Sony ALWAYS wins, baby! You can't beat Sony! Sony ALWAYS wins!" -Chad Warden. In the 80s and 90s, the ARCADES are where you went to experience cutting edge tech. So in a twisted hilarious way, we actually DO have Sega (and their arcade rivals like Namco and even ATARI) to thank for the existence of PlayStation!
N64 was a big let down for a lot of people at the time. Has about 12 great first party games and a bunch of bullshit. The PS1 library was stacked so heavy that it got most of my playtime in the 90's and into the 2000s...
I’m 34 years old and while I have a ps5 and my gf has a switch, I spend 90% of my gaming time playing ps2 and GameCube games. Between the 2 there are way too many quality bangers to count, modern games can’t hold a candle to that period of time
It's funny how the N64 had better graphics (64 bits) and power but the cartridges was a huge bottleneck and the the PS1 had lesser graphics (32 bits) and power but the CDs made it possible for Sony to take advantage of bigger games and FMV (full motion video)
I was born in 2000, but my gaming life started with the Nintendo 64 and the SEGA Dreamcast. Although I didn't play many video games, I did play some titles like Super Mario 64, the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Donkey Kong 64, Mario Kart 64, Hydro Thunder, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and Resident Evil Code Veronica.
12:55 Not true. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was on GameCube in 2004, and many FF and other Square games were on GBA, DS, 3DS before 2019. Sony just apparently got exclusive console rights to many mainline Final Fantasy titles after 6. I don't think Square was ever beefing with Nintendo, it's just that their business interests aligned with Sony's.
Yes it was more business and Sony making a deal with Square Enix for exclusivity. But that has ended recently due to low sales. Square should had broken that deal years ago. Now they will go multiplatform
Excellent take imo. I feel like ps1 and n64 are a tie in the post generation. N64 has the big N titles, but PS1 was home to the second half of the jrpg golden age.
Great vid! But to be honest, it's hard to make a case for why the N64 is better that isn't basically just saying "it's better because it has Nintendo games." Which isn't too compelling when the PS1 had so many more games of equal quality and influence (and also had undeniably much more variety to its library).
Me the Dreamcast kid just vibing on the side. Oh the Dreamcast was my older cousin's, the 1st console I ever played on. Awesome games by Sega and others for sure. But the 1st console i owned myself was an 8bit one, like only played Atari games. In the early 2000s. I don't remember where it came from either lol.

@Nonantement Yes that is true, I just mentioned the PS1 since that was the bigger focus of the video. But of course the PS2 was also dominating in the early 2000s.

Waverace and smash 64 are cool though, but thats it
Mario party as a series is the most boring shit of all time, pokemon is... well it's pokemon LMAO that shit dosent work.
The ps1 has metal gear solid and symphony of the night, I dont have to say shit about the ps1 my beloved and saturn has the best versions of capcom's vs games, so it's better than n64 by default.
Not trying to change your mind, the gamecube is a top 2 console for me, I love nintendo. i just fucking loathe the n64. One of if not the worst console I've ever played/own
the saturn prolly needs its own video dedicated to it tbh lol
