I repurposed four 80 gallon stock tanks for my worm bins, set them at about a 20 degree slope and drilled holes on the downhill end. I sometimes open the lids when it rains to allow the water to run through the castings until I get a gallon or so of tea. Worms seem to thrive in this very wet environment so I have no hesitation about the moisture content. The holes cannot plug up with the way I have it arranged. I have very happy plants.

Nice! I agree. With proper bedding material and good drainage the bin should self regulate moister. Thanks for sharing your set-up. Cheers!

Awesome!!! I have a small worm bin. I also do this method with my piggy poop. It is not a hot manure, so I let it soak for a week or so and then dilute with water and throw in some epsom salts works great!

Are you concerned about adding the seed from your squash that has not been broken down? I ask because I had seed in my compost bin that had not been broken down and without meaning to I planted zucchini and watermelon when I used the soil from my compost bin.

I picked up a 100 gallon stock tank used for giving water to cows and horses for under 100 dollars at a local feed store and keep 5 goldfish in it. Is cheaper than an in ground and doesn't take up much space. I have it on the very small back patio of a townhouse.

In the ground, they can buried themselves deeper in the ground, unlike in a tub that’s sitting in the cold!!!

I recently purchased some Worm Castings from the garden center and added it to a new plant I was planting as well as added it to the top of some tomato plants and worked it in the soil and watered it in. I’m wondering how I can make a liquid worm tea from the bag of worm castings. The package says to use one pound of castings to 5 gallons of non-chlorinated water. I only want to make one gallon at a time. Can you help me break down the math? Also, it’s been sitting in my gallon jug for almost 8 hours and it doesn’t look very dark. I’m wondering how will chlorinated water damage the worm tea because I live in the city and have city water. My rain barrel is out of commission this year as it needs some repairs, so I made the tea with distilled water at the suggestion of my local master gardener. She said to use 6 tablespoons of castings to 1 gallon of distilled water (unless you have rain water). Will this suffice?
