    On Dec. 11th, I took my longtime friend out to dinner for her birthday and surprised her by going to Bon Secour Arena here in Greenville, SC and when she saw the sign "Pentatonix" she nearly fell to her knees, LOL. We had a great time and the concert was AWESOME! When "Kiss From a Rose" came on Pam got so excited I thought she was going to tear my arm off. Pam, could not stop thanking me for that night, she said it was her best birthday even Christmas gift she ever had. Great reaction guys, hope to see you soon.

    One of PTX’s best covers I think. Deserves a Grammy award in of itself!

      Agree, but then so was the Wonka Winter mashup and O Holy Night. They spoiled us in late 2023!

    I know this is far outside what many expect from pentatonix, but personally I hope this is a style they dip their toe in to more often in the future because PHEW! Amazing!

    From what I know, Kevin is doing some looping on the equipment down by his feet which explains the multiple noises all at once. This is live. If you watch Kirstin and Mitch when Scott belts in at the beginning of the song, you will see them simultaneously reaching up to adjust their earpieces and protect their ear drums. Kinda cute 😊

    • @alfredh3071
      @alfredh3071 7 месяцев назад +2

      They’re listening to a click track through their earpieces, it’s so they stay in rhythm with each other. Unfortunately humans haven’t yet figured out a way to keep those little devils in the ear, hence the adjustment.

    • @loriculver7282
      @loriculver7282 7 месяцев назад +2

      @alfredh3071 I know about the click track. But, it is clearly a reaction to Scott's belt when you see them both reach for their earpiece at exactly the same time, and in clear response to Scott's belt. Most definitely connected.

    drums & cymbal crashes by the amazing Kevin! The "floor piece" is used to turn his cello sound from a "regular" cello to a more "electronic" sound. There's no looping - they don't use that. They made it a group requirement back when they first started that they would NEVER cover/create a song that they could not fully perform on their own, live and sound the same way - and they've never broken that rule.

    Kirstie - All right boys...voices and cello up,
    Mitch - LoOove remains - MiniMitchSlap
    Scott - Blue Eyed Soul Dragon Drive-by
    Matt - Renames song 'Falsetto from a Bass'
    Kevin - "Hold my bow".. "BaaaaBYY!!!!"....
    Note all of the members except Kevin just might have a greater connection with this song than they know....we would have to ask their parents. This was some serious baby making music in the 90s....

    The first video was performed in a VEVO Live studio. VEVO is the company that distributes a lot of content to FaceBook (and blocks your reactions). They also do original content, including inviting artists to record their music in one of the multi-million-dollar state-of-the -art VEVO Live studios. There are over 1,000 VEVO Live videos on YT, but I think the two PTX has recently posted are PTX's first. There is the capacity for a lot of sound engineering and post-production, so although this is recorded live there is some processing. Also, as you noticed there appear to be some extra string sounds so either they are using a pre-recorded track or Kevin has some sounds programmed into his cello strings.

    • @Gwennedd
      @Gwennedd 7 месяцев назад +7

      Most likely Kevin has extra sounds programmed. He switches to another program on the pedal when he goes to play his solo piece. And the bass sounds that he noted were done on the cello. I remember seeing Kevin doing those "bounce strokes" on the cello at the beginning in the Vevo edition.

    I watched it when it first dropped. I’m still trying to get my brains back in my head. The only difference between the second live, one was that the vocals were louder. If you go back and watch the other one, you will hear them in the background when Kevin is playing his solo.

    Kevin is celloboxing and Matt and Scott are adding bits of bass as needed. Did you see both Kirsty and Mitch needing to adjust their earpieces when Scott did his rock god entrance?

    Please note that Kevin's cello is routed through an effects pedal board. It doesn't take away from the performance.

    Live is always different. It’s not canned. Sometimes one’s instrument (their voice) is impacted by the travel and the others pick up. Sometimes everyone is on top of their game and the live is way better than the official due to fab riffs etc. They’ve talked about it. Who picks up for eom, how things change daily.

  • @jenchem42
    @jenchem42 7 месяцев назад +1

    In the second video, I could barely hear Kirstie, even during her solo... the sound was so unbalanced in that recording, but I think it really depends on where the person recording is sitting within the audience, and also what the phone recording can pick up. When I saw them on Dec 3 in Baltimore, we were in the 5th row and directly in front of Mitch - but I could barely hear him throughout the whole concert. However, people much farther back reported that the sound was more balanced for them and they could hear Mitch just fine.... I think it must have to do with the location of the speakers within the arena. 😕
    That said, I'm so glad you reacted to both! Each version in these two videos was slightly different from their recorded studio version, so it's obvious that it's not only live, but that they really enjoy (especially Scott) changing things up and doing different riffs and runs within the song.
    I haven't seen any of your PTX reactions in a little while, so I'd better go catch up!
