I rode both KX and CR500s in the late 80s-early 90s. Loved the CR for massive punch right off the bottom. But the KX was King of the Desert and was Spooky Fast. It was so smooth you didn't realize how fast it was because it just got to speed without any dips in power, almost electric, silky smooth powerband. I just drove 2 states away to pick up a KX500 and live the dream again.
My older buddy had a KX500 .he would bring it down to the beach and ride at low tide on the sand bars .DAMN THAT THING POUNDED SAND !! Wicked Rooster Tails.us younger dudes would just laugh and were impressed for sure.at the time I had a Suzuki 100. Keep up the good work guy's.
Fantastic 91 Kawasaki KX500 I love watching your old videos just to really appreciate the bikes that pass though your shop absolutely amazing great family & friends Ken Sr & Jr with the Wizard & son.. KX500💚😍🇺🇸👍🏻
You guys are making America great again !!! Dude - from the gold chain to the new plastics or original- these are machines - dimepeces- the passion you guys put in is impeccable 🇺🇸👍🏻🇯🇵🙌🏻💪🏻🤝
Dude I had no idea you have your own show on Discovery "Kaplan America" and for those that have never seen it should check it out. I have a ton of respect for you sir you are a true American badass in all you do brother...go big or go home!!!
You guys should double check that VIN! Other than that seat cover (which someone could have replaced) it looks just like my 93 (same swing arm graphics). This would be significant info, in that 1993 was the last 500 national season... which Mike LaRocco won, on a Kawasaki.
Stunning bike, used to have a 92 which looked almost identical. Nice to see a low hours 500., not many of these left now and certainly not in this condition.
And God help you boy hopefully you mean still in this world or can you really take him with you I'm 70 and knock knock knocking on heaven's door the Mama Don't Take these guns away from me as I do need them Evermore
Love my '97. Ive noticed, riding it back to back with my '96 CR500, that it revs slower, vibrates a bit more, and doesnt turn quite as sharp as the CR. Still, its an excellent weapon for nearly any situation. The stock rear shock will overheat if pushed hard though. Ohlins has a fix for that..
The day was sad when KX and Cr's was changed to four strokes. CC for CC two stokes are superior. I owned a 89 kx 500 a 93 kx 250 and a 84 kx 125 all was scary AF.. My friend let me ride his new kx 450 it was nice and smooth but felt weak on bottom end compared to my kx 500.... Loved the Cr's as well my late father could never afford to buy me a new bike but always looked for me a kx or cr we would rebuild them and they would blow my friends new bikes away!!! Wished I had kept all the bikes he got me as a young man the 89 kx 500 tried to kill me numerous times he ported and polished the top end and it would do 4-5 gear wheelies it was an amazing bike. Hats off to amazing dads!!!
one day ill own a beast like this but untill then ill settle for pulling maxims and secas out of my local junkyard......... the guy i had bought my last bike from had one of these in a barn but he will not part with it love the way you guys really show all of these bikes in action cant wait till things return to normal i would love to road trip out to the museum
Kaplan america is a beast, he just rips it up everywhere he goes, riding dirt bikes with this guy is a dream day for me,then I'll just stare at his wicked machines for hours as well ha ha ha ha 🇦🇺🤗👍❤️
These low hour bike finds are amazing! My first bike I got in 99 it was a 1974 CB 200 it was a small road bike but I drove it on the old rail road tracks it only had 1,000 miles on it. I bought it from an older gentleman for 500 bucks he bought it brand new in 1974 he put 1,000 miles on it the first year and then he kept it in the garage and never drove it again he just would clean it, change the oil, drain the gas and put new gas in every year, start it up a few times a year. The gas tank had no rust in it, it was original down to the tires and spark plugs the only thing that was changed was the battery. After a month or so driving it on the old rail road bed and trails i had all the lights smashed off, dents in the tank, dents in exhaust, burned the clutch out I ruined that bike. Even though I trashed the bike I was able to sell it for 500 bucks. It’s too bad I didn’t keep the bike in good shape I was young and stupid lol the old owner kept such good care of it and I ruined it.
Kawi has always had the best amateur racing program. Love the kawi bucks. I stepped away five years ago after a spinal injury. This channel is making want to get back on a bike. Just got to get past the ego.
In the day before buying a big bore smoker I tried them all out..but the one I chose that stood out was the 1991 model KTM 540 DXC because it was the meanest scariest and fastest in my opinion..A few hundred cheaper also helped..Wish I kept the beast.
The 90s and those color schemes just bug me....pink?? The 80s big bores much easier to look at imo. You guys have the sweetest bikes in the USA though!
@@D.M.Designs cool! yep im only 15 min from aoaa matter of fact you'll drive right past my place to get there and i'm surrounded by rac land have fun and be careful!
On my old 87 CR500 depending on the track and the tracks starting gate area I always started out in 2nd or 3rd gears ! Pulled holeshots in 3rd gear starts several times ! The ported and polished head with a moose heavyweight flywheel definitely helped out too 😂💪👍 TELL JR. for me that UNLIKE A KX NOTHING TURNS LIKE A HONDA 😆👍💪

There is a place called Staunton Indiana that's about an hour's Drive West of Indianapolis on Old us 40 where they mined out the first layer of coal back when they were steam powered drag lines and shovel loaders so nature head pretty much taken over the old Parts as a mine and of course we had our favorite Hill called the wall on the side of the pit walls of the strip pits and piles of dirt Rock and clay after digging the pits so stacked on the pit laws was the tailings to give you a hill have a good 150 foot high from the bottom of the pit to the top of the spoil piles and my dirt bike at the time with a street-legal 305 Honda scrambler that weigh 365 lb I remember that because my dream machine at that time with a 650 Triumph Bonneville that weighed the same as a 305 Honda scrambler of 365 lb am I beyond dream cycle what is the Triumph 650 TT...it was 1973 and a guy from where i was working had his mx360 for sale as he wanted the all new 1973 mx500 so i bought his mx360 and hoped on the 1st ever two stroke real race bike i ever threw a leg over as all the seasoned riders stood around me to see happen as jack my co-worker is explaining to me about race tuned two strokes being a bit pipy and keeping it revved while easing out the clutch and blap i killed it ..first try and the circle of riders all around us are high fiving and passing one dollar bills back and forth..2nd try same thing and more one dollar bills are trading hands again with more riders coming up to join the circle of spectators to now my manhood depends on this 3rd time in a row braaaap pow i pop the clutch (wrong) and found myself on my back on the amax coal mine haul road with a mx360 riding me instead of vs versa with other riders rolling around beside me holding their guts like punched in their belly with one dollar bills float down beside them ...later after i finally got the hang of it Terry McCullough who could ride his husky 250 idling in low gear out of the pit still on the back wheel turn onto the Hall Road and go through all five gears still in a wheelie around the Big Ben and out of sight and top out his two stroke 250 Husqvarna in a 5th gear wheelie down the strip mine Haul road at about what 80 85 miles an hour on a new husky 250 back then whatever was very impressive to me. Terry says to me one day you're not too bad on that 360 these days why don't you come with us to the Terre Haute competition Riders motocross track and race with us. I said why not let's do it so at age 23 years old on my first ever real dirt bike I want of the craziest badass motherfukers I enter they open glass for the first time on the line as back then there was no a B or C Class it was all Pros run what you brung open class do or die and I had never been one lap on a motocross track that very soon was to be a very valuable lesson to never ever ever start out your beginner Rider with open Pros on the baddest ass bike you can ever try to race. the gate drops and I get the whole shot thinking hell this aint bad and before im even half a lap I didn't walk the track Before the Race and misjudged one of the downhills thinking on the upside it was level on top but that wasn't till the next one and as I'm gaining altitude A-list MX360 on the pipe I noticed the spectators with their heads laid-back are all staring up in the sky at me with eyes wide open and jaw dropped as I expected to land on the back wheel pin the throttle into the next berm but sadly there was only sky with no Earth under me as my trustee Yamaha ran out of momentum like an Express Elevator from hell going down Wile E coyote Style next thing I remember some Farmers got his red handkerchief over my face with ice from his cooler as my nose is laying on the side of my cheek from bending the crossbar of my handlebars as I scored a dnf for my very first Moto as Back Then There Were Three Moto's per day so after I left the Band-Aid station with a roll of gauze wrapped around my face and head like the Invisible Man but showing blood stains of The Red Badge of Courage I remount my steed up to the gate for Moto number 2 pull a holeshot again like holy Terror and back way off this time for the downhill into the hollow as the Pierre karsmakers go flying over me so I finally got smart and tucked in behind them to find out what this track was like as I had never seen all of it yet while still conscious and it's been awhile and too many Knocks but I do remember finishing 7th place overall for a 3 moto average score and freaking hooked worse than dope cuz just between all pals here i have turned down a lid to buy a piston ring and still have a few bucks left for sunday morning sign up besides some one always had a lit rolled up left hander with a bud to wash it down back in the pit area camped next to the woods
Partial to big red are ya? Haha straight from the peanut gallery, me too I barely choose red Over green in the day. However we know this Kawasaki is a brute, very clean machine as always.👍

This guy I did some boiler work for had one all taken apart sitting on a shelf. Bored out and wedge ported. Said he rode after he got it back from the machine shop and took it apart after that. Too scared to ride it and didnt want to sell it. Sad day.

Pulls an instant wheelie at the flick of the throttle wow. Great big bore king of the woods in the '90s the Kawasaki KX500!
Rode the 91 KX 500 for 5 years all over the deserts out here, preferred CR 500 for track. Very clean build!

Ken, I have to agree with your son on the bike. As a long time vet rider at 59 he is spot on. I owned one for 13 years. They are the ultimate weapon.
I just rode one yesterday. I had forgot how hard a 500 2 Stroke pulls, Holy F. 😁😁😁
Just moments ago got on my buddies 02 CR 125, I lobe the sound of a 500 and 125.

89 cr’s are the best looking dirtbikes in history imo I have an 89 cr250 im doing now and looking for a 500 to match

Such a mean bike. Definitely one of a kind
Ah, this particular model I flipped and did a rotator-cuff injury in my right shoulder! Fricked it real good! What a bike tho! It was worth it! 😜

The real mvp is the person cutting your grass.
Everyone talks about the CR500 but this, Kawasaki KX500 is the king of the 500's. Power valve makes these bikes fat better than a CR
Partial to big red are ya? Haha straight from the peanut gallery, me too I barely choose red Over green in the day. However we know this Kawasaki is a brute, very clean machine as always.👍
I do like the kx but really like my restored 86 cr500. I think these kx500s will be an investment very soon👍
