Thank you for watching and for the kind words! - Van
Been watching this channel for many years and they certainly deserve more subs!
Appreciate you watching and the kind words. - Van
Oooh man bringing the gear reviews the riders really need appreciate you 🤟
We are proud to be a part of this community. Thank you for watching! - Van
Thank you for the detailed information.
Would love to know more about the 15 situations in which they deployed. Thank you again.
All of our deployments were on the race track spread over various crashes. Neither of us ride without and airbag. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Thank you for the update and glad to hear y'all have been protected. Keep riding safe.
Hey Van! Thinking about picking one of these up. Would you mind showing how to use the app…. There are quite a few bad reviews on how the app work is in conjunction with updating the vests firmware that I’m a bit scepticsl on spending the 600 some odd dollars if it is truly difficult to connect and update.
I still prefer the air tech 5 because it has a better coverage around shoulder and collarbone. Also I don’t need worry too much about ripping the fabric since it’s protected by jacket as well.
yes but it suffer from being to heavy and stuffy im currently running the dainese smart jacket ls its similar to this lets not forget the best protection is the you wear the tech 5 good as it is its simply to heavy and stuffy for me to use everyday and i tested them both before i made my choice the dainese is lighter more comfortable better breathing and sure the protection is not as great but being easier to move aorund in also better then being harder to move
If protection is your priority the Tech Air 5 is the best option. - Van
Hi great video I have an alpinestars textile jacket with a thin foam back proctor in it, after seeing your video I’ve just bought the tech air 3 would you recommend adding the additional back protector? And if yes which one fits it? Thank you in advance kindest regards from the UK
Yes you should have a back insert in the jacket as well. Below is a link to them on our site:
www.sportbiketrackgear.com/alpinestars-body-armor-protection/?_bc_fsnf=1&Product=Back+Protector+Insert
hey! Thanks for this great video! Do u know how many inflators are inside? I think i saw 1 Gaspatrone? or are there, like in the race -e 2 Inflators?
I think this device uses a single canister. - Van
Awesome review. Everyone reviews the black one. Even alpine stars model shots are all the black or blue one. Is the high vis one ugly as sin?
I have never seen the hi viz model in person. - Van
Hi, how would you compare the protection between the tech air 5 under a jacket and the Sabre RST jacket? Personally I much prefer the RST because the airbag is already fitted in the jacket but I can’t find much information on internet. Thanks
I have not seen the Sabre airbag jacket but it does use the same system as the race suit which we sell and Max races in. IMO having the airbag fully integrated into the garment makes the experience better. Like anything there are pros and cons. When the airbag is integrated into the garment you can not use it with other suits or jackets. In the event the garment is damaged in a crash you have to replace it and can not take the airbag out and use it with another.
The cost of the RST gear is less than some of the larger brands which is also a benefit. - Van
curious to see how this would be in the summer. it doesn't seem to have any ventilation between the bladder tubes
There are some perforations between the tubes to allow for as much airflow as you could get without compromising the airbag. End of the day this adds a layer and will have some negative impact on the airflow for sure. IMO the additional safety is worth the tradeoffs. - Van
Nice review! How is compared to the dainese smart jacket?
I have not seen the Dainese vest. We have had excellent results with the Tech Air Race, Tech Air 5 and the 3. - Van
You both are so good damn!
Thank you for watching! - Van
Dang, Max is all grown up now!
Thanks for the vid, the naming convention is super confusing, why is this one no. 3 which is newer than no. 5!?
He is not getting any smaller that is for sure. I am not sure what is up with the names they are using. We started with the Tech Air Race and Street, then the 5, then the 10 and now the 3. - Van
Hi, great video as always, the technology looks very interesting. But I still don’t quite get what makes the jacket deploy. Are there built in sensors or something that sense that the rider is in the midst of a fall and make it deploy while rider is in the air? Or the sensors make it deploy as soon as any part of the jacket makes contact with the pavement? If you can please clarify so that I can understand the tech better, that would be great. PS, I also left a question in an older video you posted about Driven handgrips install on a ninja 400, if you have a chance, please take a look, thanks a lot!
The vest contains sensors that collect data as well as a module that interprets the data to determine if it needs to deploy. If you have a crash this device deploys before the rider impacts something. We have been using the Tech Air Race for 4 years now and have tested it many times. - Van
My question is how did you deploy in this video? Cheers
This might be the answer to my gear issue. I have a new mesh alpinestars jacket that will fit the airbag underneath. But I have a leather jacket and a full suite that it wouldn't fit underneath. So I might actually be able to use this on all my gear.. both over and under. One question is I do have a alpinstars back protector... would this fit into the air 3 pocket?
It has a pocket to accept an Alpinestars insert. Check out the Alpinestar armor section on our site, here is a link: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/alpinestars-body-armor-protection/?_bc_fsnf=1&Product=Back+Protector+Insert
I like the idea that it can be rolled up and stored while off the bike since it relies on the back protector of your riding jacket. I don't like where they put the controller and air canister as this seems like a serious potential hazard if you fall (hope the air bag deploys and is between the entire unit and the rider so rider's back isn't injured when hitting pavement.
The airbag is between the hardware and the rider. - Van
Having to send it back after a deployment is a massive pain. I wish they would do one like helite where you can just buy the cannisters and recharge yourself. I do think argon is better though with faster deployment time
User repacks are not something I expect to see from Alpinestars. With that said there is talk of having select dealers that will be able to repack the Tech Air 3. - Van
Nice review.
Is ok to put TA3 into steam closet like LG styler?
I would reach out to Alpinestars directly with this question. - Van
Thanks, and happy Dragon new year
Quick question, Does this vest have protection on the ribs like the tech air 5 has? Or is this solely back and chest? By the way- Great videos!
The 3 does not wrap around the side of the ribs like the 5 does. I believe this was done to allow this to fit well over the jacket and be comfortable. IMO the protection offered by the 3 will still be a game changer as compared to just a back protector. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear for sure! This technology is unbelievable! Thanks for the response
Hi , advice on this or the inamotion devices fitted to RST or other European brands? It seems the inamotion seem to protect the neck more than the alpinestars.
My Son Max had a crash in his RST V4.1 Race Suit with the in&motion airbag a few weeks ago and said the airbag was amazing. He rode in the Astars for the previous 4 seasons until we switched to RST this year. We highly recommend the RST suits with the in&motion airbags. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Cheers mate! I guess both are good then 👍 Also love your channel even though I'm English and unfortunately can't order from u guys, otherwise I would.
Will the control box impede me from using my backrest?
It will not hurt the box. Whether you feel it or not will depend on the height and shape of your back rest. You can order one, try it on the bike without riding the bike or registering the unit to make sure you are happy with the fit on the bike. If you are not you can return it. - Van
Thanks for the informative video. I've got a Alpinestars Tech Air 5 and I cannot get it underneath my track suit, due to the large module on the back. It interferes with the rear hump of my Dainese suit. So, when I saw this new Tech Air 3, looking so slim and lovely, my first thought was, "wow, this would be great under my tracksuit! But apparently it is not designed for track. :-(.
Realistically, is there a good reason why I could not wear this under my track suit on a track day and expect good protection?
I suspect the reason is the deployment algorithm is not designed for track forces but more for street (meaning, I suspect the Tech Air 3 is more sensitive and may have an unwanted deployment on the track?).
Would love more info on the possibility of wearing this under a track suit for a track day! Thank you guys!
You are correct it does not have the proper algorithm for the race track. I know some riders who have used the Klim street vest on the track who suffered multiple false deployments which would deter me from recommending this one on the track. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Thanks Brian- I appreciate it---will you be carrying the RST airbag track suits in the future?
Will this work if your jacket has a speed hump.
The back of the vest has a couple of expansion panels that will help the vest to contour around the hump when you zip it up. - Van
My boi Max just as tall as you dad!!! #letsgooo
He has really grown up. Max is working in our sales department now. Shoot him a call or an email next time you need something. MaxVan@sportbiketrackgear.com or 888.784.4327 ext 248 - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear post screenshotted thanks Van!!
I have yet to see a video where someone inflates this under a slim fitting “tech air ready” jacket in the same size. My new astars jacket is supposedly compatible, but it doesn’t really feel like it has extra room or stretch for an airbag to go off under…
The Tech Air 3 is designed to be worn over the jacket. If you want to go with an airbag designed to be worn under the jacket check out the Alpinestars Tech Air 5 Vest. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Alpinestars states on their website and in the owner’s manual that the Tech Air 3 is “designed to be worn over or under the motorcycle jacket.” Not sure where you are getting this information.
I know you said not to go swimming in it. But, would it work as a life vest in the rare event that you crash and land in a body of water?
If it has deployed during the crash and you end up in the lake after it has inflated it would double as a life vest. - Van
It is Kazakhstan Coast Guard approved.
I’m guessing the Febreeze Stock will go up if you by this , cause there’s an awful lot of Crap that has to be done to fully disassemble and clean this liner. 🤦🏻 and people don’t have that much patience.
I have a Tech-5, and febeeze is my friend 👍👃🏻
LOL, Max and I have never even bothered to do that to our airbag vests. He has a lot of time on his over the past 4 years. Safe to say they do not smell amazing. - Van
Will it keep the helmet in place?
When it has deployed it will help prevent the helmet from impacting the collarbone during a tumble. While it will not hold the helmet in place, it will limit the range of motion. - Van
Why did Max stop using the Corsair X? Did the Shoei perform better for him?
There is more than one reason for the change. Reason #1 is Shoei makes a great helmet which fits Max very well. Reason #2 is Arai started selling helmets directly to Revzilla and Cycle Gear without offering a similar opportunity to us. I took that as a lack of respect for our partnership. To be clear I would never put Max in something I did not believe in 100%. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear I’ve been following you guys for a while, I’ll make sure my next helmet is not an Arai. That’s not how they should conduct business.
What about the tech street?
That system was discontinued a while ago. - Van
I'm just here to watch Max's face when it goes off lol
He is our official crash test dummy! - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear as a medic and a rider I will say I see nothing but awesome benefits of this. I will be ordering one soon!
Can you do wheelie with this west
No reason you can not. It is designed to deploy during a crash, not a wheelie. - Van
I noticed On the back side its not equal level
www.sportbiketrackgear.com/alpinestars-tech-air-3-airbag-system/
If you use this link and check out the pics we have on the site with the airbag deployed you will see the outer tube on the right side is a little shorter than the outer on the left. Not sure the reason for this. - Van
Sizing?
Order the same size you would wear in a t shirt. The vest is sized to go over your riding jacket so all you need to do is order the same size you would wear in a t shirt etc... - Van
Max is almost a grown ass man now!
Time flies by for sure. Thanks for watching. - Van
Not bad, but the Helite has more, better protection.
What I miss by ALL airbags: What is with nec ? The weakest zone of the body in accidence.
The airbags inflate over the shoulders and prevent the helmet from contacting the collarbone. Broken collarbone is the most common road race injury. - Van
I could be wrong but this looks inferior to helite turtle as far as neck protection
We do not offer the Helite product so I am not very familiar with it. From the images I see on their site it looks pretty similar to the Tech Air 3 unit. For the neck this has more than enough coverage to limit the range of motion for the helmet in a crash. The main purpose for that is to prevent the helmet from contacting the collarbone and breaking it. This unit also looks to have more coverage for the chest and the back than the Helite. - Van
if that's important to you Yes...lollll, hilarious 😃
Thanks for watching! - Van
15:20 😁
I am just happy Max is the one who has to do that part now. - Van
15:22 🤣
LOL I am not sure anyone could keep a straight face during a deployment. I am just glad Max has to be the one now. - Van
imma be real i dont think that thing is going to prevent much of anything but that's just me
From a position of first hand experience I can tell you the airbag is a game changer in a crash. I have had one deployment and Max has had several over the past 4 years and we will not ride without it. - Van
I.m a skeptic. Too many things for the Human Form to come to a sudden stop against on the street.
We have been using the Astars airbags since they came out and I will say with confidence they have prevented injury during that period. - Van
