CA The Interview #56 Travis Carlton
We discuss Travis' early life in California and has formative years in Lebanon, Tn. Playing in High School Bands, working in record stores, his musical mentoring by the older staff members of the store who introduced him to new artists and musical experiences.
Coming back to California to study at Musicians Institute from 2001-2003 at what was then B.I.T. (Bass) under Ernest Tibbs, Putter Smith and open office hours with Allen Hinds. (I play a little testimonial short of Allen talking about Travis during those days.)
After Graduating and working a bi as a T.A. at MI, he started on his first tours with Sara Bareilles backing Maroon 5 and later subbing in on Larry Carlton's Asia tour.
I ask him about his pedal-less Wah-Wah bass playing and how he does it.
Then the obligatory "Who are your influences" Question.
I ask Travis about his "Be the Best You" comment I'd noticed in another's online interview.
And the conversation lead into a discussion of the days of Covid; the good bad and the weird?
The connections and impact of a club like the Baked Potato on musicians and patrons alike.
And some future upcoming (and just recently past) events.
