Welcome to Zhou Shen's family. FYI, all Zhou Shen's performances have not been autotuned whatsoever and he always sings with full open mic which not so many artists will do nowadays because of their abilities. To tell you a bit about Zhou Shen's background. He got bullied when he was young just because his voice didn't change when puberty came but that was not his choice and people called him names..... because of that he didn't sing in front of people for a long time and he even tried to tone down his voice when he speaks. It takes a long time for him to accept his own voice again and gets where he is now worldwide.
He has studied Dentistry in Ukraine when he was young but because of the language barriers, he changes to study Classical music there instead. His goal is to combine Classical and Pop music together to introduce to those who didn't know what Classical music is. His vocal range is very wide and his breath control is extremely good. He is a polite, funny, and humble guy. He can sing at least over 12 different languages. He can even sing 6 different voices in one song. His music has so many different genres.
If you are willing to dig into his performances, you will be amazed by his talents. A lot of music can heal people's bodies but not many can heal people,'s, souls. Zhou Shen's music is one of them that can heal your soul. Even with his high note, it will not hurt your ears, not like so many artists out there. Zhou Shen , Charlie, is a male singer. He didn't change his voice during his puberty by nature and people teased him. He had gone through a very hard time to become a singer as he loves singing very much. He is short but a humble, hard-working, talented, generous and humorous guy and finds his own way to practice and perform every song, having his own style. He leads a very simple life and puts all his time and effort in singing. Now he is very famous, appreciated and well-loved by numerous Chinese and western youtubers after hearing his songs with a lot of styles. He still has a long successful way to go in this profession.
He grew up in a remote village, almost on his own as his parents went to the town to make a living. Even when he was sick and needed to be hospitalized, he was always alone. This made him strong and independent but he is still a pious son who respects and supports his parents though they didn't support his training and singing career when he was sent to Ukraine to study dentistry according to his parents' wish. He had a hard time to learn the foreign language which now became one of his talented singing in multiple languages. His choice of training in singing instead of dentistry made him very lonely, without support for some years that he strived very hard to support his own living and vocal training in Ukraine. Every week, he had to spend 48 hours to travel back and forth from Ukraine to China to earn his livelihood and school fees. Glad that he remains strong and dedicated that we have the great chance to listen to his lovely songs and give our blessings.
Thanks for sharing the more personal side of him. I've seen documentaries on the children left behind in the villages so their parents can go to the city to earn a living. Kudos to him for his hard work for his love of the heavenly given gift to him, even when he was doing it all alone. Respect to him and more success.

Another amazing thing about Zhou Shen is that he never really professional trained until university and after he debuted. He had wanted to be voice actor but ended up as a singer.
This song is Ring the door bell and listen to myself. Composer was Gao Xiao Song. He’s well known for deep, complicate, or dark songs. For over ten years no one were able to sing this song. Even when he first give this song to Zhou Shen six or seven years ago. Zhou Shen couldn’t sing it. Till now. The composer complemented Zhou Shen, saying Zhou Shen was improving fastest singer he ever seen. This is one of my favourites from Zhou Shen. It is packed with so much that exhilarates and yet makes one squirm with the dark undertones. It's seductive, twisting and turning. The intrigue sucks you in. Apparently this is the first performance of this song. Zhou shen applied to sing it 5years prior and was turned down. But was accepted to be the first person to sing it now. This is such a rich, perfect, polished, colourful, beguiling performance. Love it. ❤️

I am subjecting you should check on Zhou Shen singing those songs in different languages. (he can sings in at least 9 to 10 languages, such as LET IT GO in 9 languages). In most recently is JUST LIKE FIRE, COMPION, THIS IS ME...... all in English lyric that you can understand. Zhou Shen is talented, humble, and young guy with good personality. To me i had never seen any one
with such angelic voice. He is a guy with natural voice between child and girl. He is not faking his voice like other singer sings

i got here following the trail of zhou shen reaction videos and i must say, yours is one of my favourites. zhou shen's music is generally more soft i'd say, he has a few songs that subverts his style/genre like the one you have just listen to.
my zhou shen recommendedations are:
1. big fish (da yu): it was the song that propelled him to into stardom
2. guang liang: another song that i feel describes zhou shen. the style leans more towards chinese aesthetic
3. dalabengba: if you want to see zhou shen stretching his singing abilities, this song is for you
4. any of zhou shen and hacken lee collaborations: the two singers were paired up together in a tv singing show. their harmonies are top notch!! my personal favourites are under mount fuji (ai qing zhuan gou), people in love (tian xia you qing ren) and half moon serenade (yue liang xiao ban qu)
In fact, before he officially became a singer, he has sung various styles of songs😂. It was only after I knew him that I found out that he was already singing many kinds of songs when he was a teenager. He recently performed a song "just like fire", in fact, he has sung similar songs in the past😄.
@@starss2263 yess, his voice is very versatile and he has sung many different types of styles, ranging from opera to english pop songs. but i think it's always best to listen to a singer's general style first as a starting off point before branching out. it gives a quick overview of artists and makes the subversion feel refreshing. at least that's how i listen to music.
I think it is the (for us English speaking) very subtle Asian tones, and in this case Chinese (mandarin?) and their unusual part tones and slides/slurs.
It makes something else for us to hear those who have been trained or brought up listening to Chinese opera and other ethnic Asian performances.
And then there is the tones that are just a part of their normal talking languages that we don’t ever hear in English or European languages. When these are sung, they are so unusually beautiful.
On top of that, there is the fact of their childhood voices being allowed to cultivate past puberty within their cultured norms. In the west, this has been lost.
I am Australian, and our borders contain the English almost exclusively, except groupings of other ethnic immigrants mostly in cities, and who generally use English in public. But I think China has many large ethnic communities, and so their multiple languages are much more common. So their musical culture is very broad. They have massive stadiums with huge crowds in Asian countries, and they seem to travel across borders for concerts. The English speakers grow up thinking our system is it, and it is quite a wake up call when we discover much more talented people than ours overseas. We have been groomed to accept very little.

You're right Dennis, there are 56 ethnic groups in China, every ethnic group have their own dialect/language, food, traditional clothes, architecture, culture, etc. (Do you know one of the 56 ethnic groups are ethnic Russians? They reside in northern China.)
no, those subtle yodels and other vocal tech are very specific to this song, it's nothing about accent tones between different languages.. If you listen more from Zhou Shen, you'll find only 3~4 songs are quite similar in terms of dark music style,

Seems like the other comments have given some backstory on the singer. Here's some backstory on this song.
It was originally composed and written by Gao Xiaosong, a mentor who took Zhou Shen under his wing when he entered the music industry. All of the songs in Zhou Shen's first album was written by him, and they originally intended to include this song as well, but at that time Zhou Shen's vocal skills were not good enough to handle the song. Later on through the years, a few other top tier singers tried out the song as well but couldn't get a handle on it either.
Finally, Zhou Shen took it out again when he was competing in the Singer 2020 show, and successfully pulled it off this time. That's where this video comes from. This version had some changes from the original in order to suit the show, especially with the lyrics, as the original version had some political metaphors that wouldn't have passed the chinese TV censors.

@Canadian Honey Badger What? Did you mean Zhou Shen? He graduated from a renowned Lviv National Musical Academy in Ukraine. His major was Bel Canto Tenor. He's the first Chinese student in Ukraine that scored a straight "A"s. His professor was a famed tenor performer.

** fangirl scream ** I was NOT expecting this one! But I am NOT disappointed! Zhou (pronounced like "Joe") Shen (you got the Shen part right) is an absolute treasure. My favorite artist at the moment. I love this song so much I'm actually working on dance choreography for it ...I feel it in my bones, my blood, my soul - so sensual - gahhh! There are so many directions to go from here with him...he has an amazing counter-tenor bel canto style that he often blends into his songs, he does a lot of stunning OST work, he has English and Ukrainian pop covers, electronica collabs, and on and on... I'm not even sure what to recommend next for him.... 《紫禁城》is one of my favorites with a more traditional Chinese aesthetic, his performance of 《平凡之路》is also gorgeous, 《Baby До свидания》has a reggae-ish vibe + he shows off his bel canto in it, Dalabengba is a wild ride with 7 voices transporting you into a video game, and "The Song Of Heaven Island" is just WOW.

You absolutely have to listen to and react to the song "Ocean" by John Butler, specifically the 2012 version he has a video of on RUclips. It is such an amazing piece!
Actual Song Title is “Listen to the Ringing of Your Doorbell “ It was written & composed by Mr. Gao Xiao-Song, musician, writer, director, host, and bibliophile and ex chairman of Alibaba Music Technology. He has composed many songs but has only allowed 2 singers to sing them to date. When he met Zhou Shen, he was most impressed and decided to sponsor and let ZS sing 10 of his compositions. Doorbell is one of the songs which He gave to ZS in 2016 or so to practice and interpret. However Mr Gao thot the ZS 1st version wasn’t good enuf and believed ZS is capable of putting far more emotions in this song. He asked ZS to send him the final version only if he himself feel he is satisfied with his final work on this song.. It took ZS at least 4 arduous years to practice to arrive at this version. After he sent the final version recorded in his iphone to Mr. Gao who promptly informed him over WeChat video that that was exactly what he was looking from from ZS. This song debutted in 2020 the Singers Show. Incidentally Mr Gao was the first person who truly believed in ZS’s uniquely creative talent, breathtakingly beautiful angelic voice, and personally invested in ZS. He invited ZS to his LAX home recording studio to record his first CD of 10 songs
I usually watch the metalreactions but I love almost all music. So since you haven't listened to that much music from Sweden I have to recommend a amazing artist that is very popular here in Scandinavia. Her name is Laleh and she makes music in both swedish and english. She has a great voice and came to Sweden as a refugee and she has won awards for not only albums and songs but also producing! Her biggest hit is probably "Some die young" but I really like a song called "Snö" which is from the soundtrack of the swedish movie Arn-Temple knight. Alhoa and enjoy!
One thing you can guarantee on every singer's performance on the Singer shows is stunning Production. Whether that is the musicianship, the backing vocals, or lighting and sound. Every singer will get the best opportunity to shine. There is nothing I can add to the wonder that is Zhou Shen other than say, try some of his English songs (like "Memory" or "Time to say goodbye"). You will know the standard, and can compare his voice, and truly beautiful English enunciation). Lovely Reaction as always. Thank you. And, more Hua Chenyu please. He did aso a fantastic version of Memory, beter than Barbra Steisand. The most crazy song he did is Dalabengba. If you want to hear a very good vocal technique you should watch Tengri - Heaven, also from the Singer competition. Tengri also did an amazing duet with Zhou Shen

I absolutely loved your reaction. Someone else has already suggested it but didn't mention the title: could you react to Zhou Shen's "Dalabengba"? Totally different style, but you're in for a big surprise. Other suggestions: his latest track "Silver Linings" & "Welcome to Paradise Lost" (also called "The Song of Heaven Island").
