    Dr. Lynch, which 23&me test should I get for the Strategene? Just the Ancestry or the Health + Ancestry?

    Dr. Lynch - Are you aware of any doctors / practitioners in the Cincinnati area who routinely use stratagene along with 23andMe?

    Nothing against it, but you do a Genetic Test exactly to obtain the genetic info with is what your doctor doesn’t have. To me sounds like the epigenetic data would be in much better hands if collected and interpreted by the client’s personal doctor- one with whom he confides- instead of a trained assistant at the test clinic, papers to fill in or a computer.
    So its a bit silly to say that one would pay for a Genetic Test and not have a doctor to help reading the results and pointing the treatment way later. The real question is the quality/capacity of ones doctor...

    Is Strategene only for AFTER I have taken any kind of genetic test (doesnt mattee which company I use) or does Strategene also do generic testing? Just wondering..thank you!

    I tested with 23andMe and was told that my sample failed. So I have recently just resubmitted another sample. If this one fails I don't know what to try next?
    I have read that the swab test may collect more DNA than the spit test. So I am looking for a company that uses the swab test for genetic mutations. Can you recommend a company who uses this type of testing?
    My doctor wanted me to have the DNA test done because blood genetic tests showed I had active mutations on Factor 2 G20210A, MTHFR 1298C and Apo-E E2/E4 markers. She wants to see if I have any other mutations that could be active. Thank you for your help, it is greatly appreciated.

      Lyanna Stark 23andme claim that some people just don't have enough DNA in their saliva. I followed the instructions to a tee, so I don't believe I contaminated my sample. With that being said I resummited and did get my DNA coded. However, the ancestry was not as revealing as I had hoped in my native American great grandmother. It did even show this connection. So I question the accuracy on ancestry.

    • @annberry8149
      @annberry8149 7 лет назад

      Same here. The reason was, I didn't read the instructions and get the sample correctly. It looks simple but no, you have to read how to obtain the sample correctly. I was embarrassed I goofed 2 times.

      Native American origins: The ancestors of Native Americans likely hailed from Siberia, trekking across the Bering Strait to Alaska ... Or, maybe Southeast Asians traveling by boat may have reached North America some 20,000 years ago. Or, It could be that Europeans traversed ice sheets covering the North Atlantic during the last glacial maximum. Or all these routes were taken. Taking that into account, yes, my native ancestry was shown by 23andMe in that there are Southeast Asian origins... My genes got here by boat, maybe.

      pls watch this video - ruclips.net/video/Tkemqns2GkQ/видео.html - it has to do with how the gene speeds up or slows down typically. One needs to understand if they want to speed it up or slow it down - takes time to learn.

    Doctor, you're speech style and physical presentation is very accessible. You need to explain the terms you use that are totally scientific and not understandable by the general population. What the heck is a polymorphism? It would be SO EASY for you to take the time to explain that. Every time you use a scientific word, please translate!!!

      @@DrBenLynch Right, all one can do is make best educated guesstimates from our experiences and sincere, honest research (not to presume its always valid and reliable, depending on one's motives). It's what solution-driven people have been endeavoring to do since forever. Are there "snake oil salesman" (like Dr Fauci) among us, putting profit over people with their "sales pitches (e.g., C19 injections)?" For sure.
      Or we can wait for "perfect research" to be conducted, like some of these commenters seem to want, which isn't likely to happen since research is conducted by motive-driven people, e.g., most these days are focused more on profits/status/tenure than on people's wellbeing/health. I've learned to venture out to experience life with all its inevitable ups and downs; to follow the actual science instead of govt narratives about it. Hey, life's a risk; live and learn.

    Some of the recommendations are correct though?? Often most doctors do not believe in ANY vitamins at all, just BIG PHARMA...either that or zero help at all.. Vitamins are not that expensive compared to BIG PHARMA drugs, any Prescription, or a doctor appointment, nothing wrong with vitamins & being healthier.

    • @DrBenLynch
      @DrBenLynch  7 лет назад +12

      I'm all for vitamins and supplements - absolutely. Heck - I own a supplement company. My issue is how they do it. It is not possible to do this: SNP X = Supplement Y. SNP B = Supplement A. Now it is ok to suggest various considerations for a particular gene or SNP - but not without lifestyle, dietary and environmental recommendations as well. Epigenetics are too powerful to think we can modify gene expression solely through a singular nutrient. It's also ridiculous to think that we can swallow a nutrient and think we are targeting that particular SNP in isolation. No way. We are impacting the entire system. Think of dominos. If you knock over the first domino, the entire chain will fall. However, if there is something blocking the second domino from falling, the entire chain won't fall. Most reporting companies don't address this. StrateGene does.

      I think the skepticism with vitamins comes from the fact (or maybe nonfact im not sure) that absorption rates are often low, eg theres vitamins in the pills, but those do not necessarily end up in your blood stream. So a supplement could be less effective than just eating healthy, which is what most doctors prefer you to do.

      Krat: MDs are taught almost NOTHING about nutrition. The pharmaceutical companies give money to the medical schools and control what is taught. Therefore, physicians are taught to only use prescription medicine--even with a clear-cut condition like pernicious anemia, my Mother's physician still refused to give B12, despite the fact that untreated pernicious anemia KILLS. It has nothing to do with absorption levels--better made pills and capsules are more easily absorbed. Many nutrients, like B12, can also be given by injection or IV. Vitamins and natural supplements can not be patented, and so are less lucrative. The answer is very simple: MONEY.
