    Tip to help with practice: To tell if your movement has come to a complete stop or you're ready to shoot is to look at your gun. Your gun moves along with you and when it returns to regular position means you've stopped completely. You can rewatch his video to see his gun going to regular position as soon as he shoots.

      Also what helps is shooting error graph located in settings the video tab and it's at the bottom of stats the orange bars means you shooting accurately aka standing still and the blue means movement was incorporated when firing aka run and gun this is nice when vod reviewing your game or in a dm to see if you're counter strafing correctly having good or bad gun fight hygiene.

      "counter strafing" isnt actually in Valorant at all , atleast not in the way people think
      The entire idea of "counter strafing" in CSGO was that while strafing, pressing a movement key in the opposite direction would cause you to come to a stop /faster/ than you would have, had you simply let go of your strafe key.
      But in Valorant this mechanic is essentially non existent. Multiple people have done the actual frame counting with precise artificial movement inputs and counting frame by frame they found that there is absolutely no discernable difference in stopping speed between 'counter strafing' and simply letting go of your movement key.
      And this is the case for alot of the more intricate mechanics that are such a main staple in CS like bhopping and server tick rates.
      All these mechanics in Valorant have been purposely tuned in such a way that they are relatively easy to pick up and understand for a beginner , without the slurry of arbitrary secondary movement properties that they dont outright tell you about, and would inevitably impact your performance in the longrun.
      But as a concluding statement id just like to say that Yes, doing this in game does give you a very slight advantage in the fact that you are more consistently *on the move*
      but it does /NOT/ give you an advantage in *stopping speed*
      which is the whole reason its even called "counter strafing" at all , as you're countering the effects of strafing.
      But yea, any perceived advantage in stopping speed from practicing this sort of thing is you simply gaining experience and understanding of the games actual movement mechanic timing and being rewarded for it *because* its consistent and straightforward.

    i watched many videos, and they're all great but this is the one that really able to explain the 'why' and 'how' behind the 'is' for me. it felt like i can finally see the theory that build strafing which is great bcs then i can recognized where it is applicable, it's the basic (fundamental) understanding i've been searching for so thank you! also tried the practices today and i love how your practices gave me SOOOO much information and made me see the game in wider and more detailed perspective, i will try to stick to your routine!!!

    • @DayTripper85
      @DayTripper85 7 месяцев назад

      Haven't watched the video yet, but your comment caught my eye because I saw the word "theory" and needed to to reply.
      I am 100% with you on this! I NEED the "why" behind things before I can master them.
      "Do this. Don't do that." Ok, but why? "Just DO it."
      Nah. That don't work for me.
      I had a fucking mental epiphisplosion the first night that the "theory" behind mouse sens came to me. Everyone always said, "It's about comfort" but that's about as far as they went. Then, one night I was grinding aim training and Valo. I felt like I was dragging my crosshair through mud. In frustration, I increased my sens from .13 to .24. Suddenly I was clicking heads. My arm, eyes, and crosshair were perfectly in sync for the first time ever. That's when I realized that finding the right mouse sens IS about comfort, but more specifically it's about finding what makes your movements in game feel natural and connected to your eyes and arm. What sens requires the least amount of thought and effort IOT to get your crosshair on target? The right mouse sens will make your crosshair feel like an extension of your arm.
      Additionally, the right mouse sens can change based on your hand-eye coordination. As my reactions and coordination have improved, I have experimented with all kinds of different mouse sensitivities. Sometimes it's been a detriment because I've gotten lost in the weeds, but overall it has been an effective and important journey. I now have a "range" that I shift between depending on how I'm feeling at the time.
      Anyway...that was a lot just to say I love to know I'm not the only one who's mind works this way!

  • @tyborg314
    @tyborg314 2 года назад +47

    not sure if this was addressed in the video but counte-strafing in CSGO is important because when you lift off the movement key, theres a short period of deceleration that occurs in which you are inaccurate. If you press the opposite key or "counter" strafe, you are making the acceleration of your character in that moment 0 (zero). If you master counter strafing in CS, you can be accurate while seemingly never stopping, and this is because you are taking advantage of that brief period of time inbetween strafes in which your acceleration is 0. In valorant this doesn't matter at all because the second you lift off the strafe key your acceleration is zero and so you can just lift off the key and have instant accuracy. It can be used, however, in valorant if you want to continually move back and forth instead of stopping, but you can also just lift off key, shoot, strafe again, lift off key, shoot etc.

    • @hoozwastaken
      @hoozwastaken 2 года назад +3

      iirc in csgo if u don’t counter strafe the character is still moving for 24 frames but in valorant without counter strafe it’s only 8 frames that’s why there are the for ways of “counter strafing” he mentions at the end of the vid

    Hey low-mid immortal player here. This is the one concept I’ve been missing and I haven’t seen anyone make content on it. Everyone says good aim comes with good movement and vice versa but no one explains it like this. I feel if you incorporate this into your gameplay you can easily become more consistent since 90% of your shots are easier to hit.
    I’ve been spamming a and d and strafing left to right when I could’ve been implementing this and I climbed pretty high with the a and d strat. I just feel with this in my tool kit I would be much more consistent with the a and d spamming

    • @Hareyex
      @Hareyex 2 года назад +4

      Yeah, I find that players with CSGO backgrounds will most likely already know about counterstrafing. At least to me, it seems that most of the VALORANT community don't really give much exposure to this important fundamental. Perhaps it's due to the fact that counterstrafing is much more important in CSGO due to the higher movement speed, while in VALORANT, it is able to be compensated by raw aim due to lower movement speed or compensated by the use of abilities. At higher ranks, counterstrafing will definitely up your game so I highly recommend that you spend time to improve it.

    Letting go vs pressing opposite key shows esentially there is no actual advantage to counter strafing,
    if you bind your shoot key to the counter strafe you plan to do, you will see that you can't shoot straight cause you dont yet have accuracy so you need to either press the counter strafe a split second later and you also time that with your shot you press them simultaneusly or
    counter strafe wait a split second and then shoot , you are never getting an advantage, so that 50ms is gonna be taken from you either when you let go , or when you decide to do the counter strafe
    example lets say we move to the left:
    there are 3 ways to shoot:
    WITHOUT COUNTERSTRAFING:
    A[pressed] + A[released] + [50ms] + MOUSE1(shooting)
    WITH COUNTER STRAFING:
    A[pressed] + A[released] + [50ms] + D[TAP] + MOUSE1(shooting)
    in this case you can time the shooting with the moment you press D, but you are waiting just like you do without counterstrafing so i dont even think there is a value to this
    Now here raises another question do you hold the counter strafe key or you just tap and release it. So for that 50ms you tap and relase or hold then shoot.
    A[pressed] + A[released] + D[TAP] + [50ms] + MOUSE1(shooting)
    In this case you wait a little before you shoot so you shoot, is there an advatnage to without counterstrafging nobody knows.

    My personal tip is to create a secondary account. Play competitive whilst practising counterstrafing or anything you need to work on. The reason is to remove the presure of messing up and you can focus on developing your mechanics. I do not think this would be smurfing as your secondary account would be placed 1-2 rank below your main, play your placements correctly.

    1. means just shoot 1 bullet at the apex of your standstill in between a and d, best gun to use is guardian cause it has lowest spread (you can't use jett knives cause it defeats the whole purpose :D cause they are perfect irrespective of movement)
    2.means don't move your mouse at all but in reality you have to use your mouse to switch and position yourself correctly and also you have to use your mouse to adjust if you are not head level meaning you can adjust vertically the mouse but not horizontally.
    But after doing this you can create a routine that incorporates this same exercise but this time you use your mouse to microadjust.
    TBH this secret tip is kind of useless and annoying and not helpful microadjusting with mouse makes this a much more fun and useful exercise.

    But yea, any perceived advantage in stopping speed from practicing this sort of thing is you simply gaining experience and understanding of the games actual movement mechanic timing and being rewarded for it *because* its consistent and straightforward.

    to do the controlling aim with movement, for example if we strafe to left, hold A on keyboard right? so to stop its better release the a button, or hold a and d (a+d) together?

      Better to release the button. Way easier and it does the same thing.

    Great video, thanks a lot! In the video you mention that as you reach the enemy with movement you start “decelerating”. Factually speaking in terms of keys, what does it mean, do you start walking “Shift”? Thanks

    also keep in mind that counter strafing helps but is not necessary, simply letting go of the key is already plenty effective.

    One of my main questions about the idea that "stopping first to aim before shooting is wasting time you could use to aim while moving, so why not just use this opportunity to keep moving" is what to do when continuing to move compromises your position when isolating angles and forces you to take another bad fight afterwards. If I build my aiming technique around continuing to move until I'm confident my crosshair is on their head, then there's a real possibility that in the time it takes to do that I've now committed significantly harder to the fight than may be necessary and put myself in a much worse position to execute on the percentage play. With movement like that, even if my odds of winning the first fight I take on an angle go up, my odds of getting traded by a nearby teammate rise exponentially, right? Or am I missing something.

      "use this opportunity to keep moving" can include: peekingwhile aiming to take a shot, and as soon as you shoot to start moving again. during this time you adjust your aim. however lets say that you don't want to stay in the open anymore? use that movement to get back behind cover. Essentially, he is talking about counter strafing and you are talking about peeking/positioning/gun fight strategy. He's just having you build skills for a separate concept, and the others are still necessary to improve. Good aim doesn't teach you how to not die during gun fights...

    Suppose i wanna counter strafe side to side while taking a fight. Do i
    A) hold A and D keys alternatively or B) Do i hold A then tap D to stop, then hold D again and tap A to stop?
    I think the correct method is option B but it seems really slow? I want to do quick side to side movements

    Question, 4k cs hours here. In cs with counter strafing, you are taught/learn that you need to cancel out the movement to do correct counter strafing. As in if you hid D to strafe you need to tap A to cancel out the motion faster. I didn't notice if you mentioned it here. Just looking for clarification if you should cancel momentum out the same way in Valorant? Or is it just a release D-to-stop type of motion?

    • @royalgftw
      @royalgftw  2 года назад +1

      You cancel momentum the same way, not as much for the frame advantage but for the physical cue to connect the timing to muscle memory
