    I had the fortune of being selected to test the Catalyst for about a year now and one of the best comments I have heard was in a conversation on Speed Secrets Pod Cast. It was based on a statement from Henry Ford that if he would have asked the customer what they wanted for transportation they would have replied a Better/Faster Horse so he gave them a car. The customer did not know what they wanted but Ford as an innovator did. Garmin has done the same with this product after using AIM, VBOX, Phone Apps, GM Cosworth, Porsche Track Precision, Apex, Action Camera's..... I really wanted a system that encompassed the best features of all the units, IE a Faster Horse. What they gave me was a Automobile because in reality the key is to gather the right data and process it quickly so I could spend less time on data and more on improving. Hopefully the Good, Better, Best ideology of Garmin will find its way to the Catalyst and we see even more innovation with product soon!

    Very useful details about a product it wasn't so clear what it could do.

      Believe it, my friend! At AppliedSpeed.com we have had seven drivers buy this product thus far and everyone has improved from .9 seconds to a full 2 second a lap.

    Just received my Catalyst and will be taking it to Sonoma Raceway Sept. 26 & 27. I'm looking forward to seeing how much faster it makes me.

      @@InstructorSummit The answer to: "did I improve my lap times at Sonoma Raceway" is not a simple one. Yes, I set a new personal best - was 1:51.96 now 1:50.07, so almost 2 seconds faster. However, that was in the 5th lap of the 1st session and before I was getting input from the Catalyst. From that point on, the track conditions began to get less favorable (HOT). Later that day and particularly on Sunday I was getting what I deem to be good input from the Catalyst. While I didn't beat my Saturday morning best time, I think I still improved by at least 1 second. I'm basing this on my performance relative to others driving in the same sessions. I'm a believer that the Catalyst has and will continue to improve my abilities.
      Next stop is Road Atlanta October 24 and 25, I'm less familiar with that track, I've only been on it for one weekend last February. There is no doubt in my mind that the Catalyst will improve my times on that track.

    Amazing amazing video. I currently use the RaceBox pro
    Once garmin can stream line point to point sprint for autox I’ll buy one, because the RaceBox can create custom maps anywhere in the world

    Hey guys, thanks for the review. We do alot of endurance racing of 16hr & 24 hr races , with multiple drivers. How big is the memory in this unit and will it save each of our drivers ,1 to 2hr sessions each per day ? Does it stop automatically when we come into the pits and do a quick driver change, then the next driver just has to hit start again.
    Appreciate your time and imput.
    Cheers Chris

    At appliedspeed.com we are amazed at the Catalyst. 2021 will see many lap records fall because of this tool. We are also looking at carrying the off-road Garmin products for off-roaders and racers.

    So it will show me my best key hole / segment not necessarily the optimum one, correct?

    • @InstructorSummit
      @InstructorSummit  4 года назад

      So that's a question that I think you could rephrase a bit. If you flew into the keyhole at 110 mph and crashed into the tire wall you could SEGMENT that portion and it would count as a really fast (low time) entry. Then you pair that with a normal, great exit segment and you have two bogus segments that can't really exist. The Garmin will weave a bunch of driveable areas on the track together and tell you what to do.

    • @nr27_IP_M3.
      @nr27_IP_M3. 4 года назад +1

      Instructor Summit that’s not my question. I will show me the best and fastest line that I took on one of my laps. That still might not be the optima one though. In other words is it putting together my virtual best lap based on all my (mini) segments. However, in all my laps someone as Peter Krause might say well you really need a different line here because ..... I think it is probably a great tool for people who do not want to the analysis work on their computer but it will not replace that as a better tool.

      JanN Corvette C7 Grand Sport You are correct when u say mini segments. Yes

      @@nr27_IP_M3. HI Jan. I understand you. I think you use the word "optimum" in place of "fastest possible". You can only find the "optimum" line by trial and error. You could also copy the line a faster driver uses, how you can do that I am not sure. You could try following him, or if you are really good friends with him or her you could trade Catalysts for a few laps. The Catalyst will show you the best line you have laid down but practice and trying new lines will get you closer to the optimum line. If you need some help with your Catalyst give us a shout on APPLIEDSPEED.com

    $1k and they couldnt at least add brake and throttle input? Thats the deal breaker.

      @@TheSandman121212 I think the point is with this you don't need to read the throttle or brake sensor. The unit will infer it from GPS i.e. slowing, speeding up and lateral G's from the camera.

    • @mschacht69

      You get brake metrics, for your ride, as well as the best throretical lap. It is very easy to get mph at any point on the track. You really need to try one top appreciate it. I have used the Catalyst for 10 sessions, my only comment, "They aren't charging enough for the Catalyst." I have been dicking around with AiM Race Studio for years, great data if you can get to it in a timely manner. Not the case with Catalyst.

    • @jeangenibrel2358
      @jeangenibrel2358 3 года назад

      That would have been superfluous information. The device will tell you if you applied too much or not enough brake or throttle by its speed.
