As my favorite steam train is Union Pacifics 844, i have to admit British steam is pure art! Its absolutely beautiful. i always find myself coming back to this video its perfect the music the shots everything is incredibly well done 👍🏾
If the PRR T1s can reach 140 mph(224 km/h), or the S1 can hit 156 mph(249.6 km/h). Then, there is only a sentence to say, "so much for slow and weak steam locomotives".
We can only dream to see her out of retirement I was told by sombody at the NRM that it would cost almost 1 million pounds to bring her back to mainline standard and he said they dont want to risk damaging her but he never said it couldn't be done😉
This is Bittern basically steaming on behalf of all her sister a4’s and fellow steam locos and ancestor locos and saying “Up yours dr beeching!!!” You’ll never get rid of steam and it will always be king of the rails!!
Reality check here. 60 years ago, "We need more efficient, more powerful, and more economical locomotives." Then, "Absolutely, we are investing in diesel and electric." A few years later, "Glad we are rid of the steam." Now, "Gosh how we miss these magnificent machines."
well people find horse carriages, like the one that takes royal weddings to cathedrals, charming but no one wants that to be the way they go to work in the morning.
I would like to live in that age for some time... I think instead of travelling in space, I would prefer travelling in time. England is a beautiful country in 2018, but I would like to see it 1938... Hercule Poirot, ABC Murders, London - Doncaster - York - Edinburgh... Or? :D we could maintain some steam trains in regular service :)
When I get older I’m going to build a narrow gauge railway through the settlement of where I live to and I’m going to build a4 Pacifica to run the line and a couple of more steam locomotives 🚂 along with my a4s I already made my plans
0:49 For fucks sakes mate, this is the fifth fucking tomato I have ordered that you managed to fuck up and drop on the table. Don't tell me your going to go get me another tomato mate, get me your manager now!!!!!!!!
I still say a speed rocord doesn't _really_ count if you break the damn loco in the effort. Which they did. Smashed the backplate of the middle cylinder, or something like that, couldn't handle that kind of speed (of course it was like 30mph faster than it was intended to _ever_ go)
Well it does count, and the engine was not really broken, though it was designed for fast running. The middle big end overheated. They were still learning about high speed running, the steam was shut off fully in the need to slow down, this was later proved to be a mistake, though in the circumstances perhaps a necessary one. The resultant absence of cushioning steam to absorb the loadings due to inertia of the motion caused the problem. The same problem occurred elsewhere in the world too. The engine had the offending bearing re-metalled at New England shed in Peterborough. It then went to Doncaster for a full examination to be carried out and the engine was back in full service 9 days later. There was to be another attempt on the record in September 1939, the engine was expected to achieve 130 mph on the 1938 run but a speed restriction through Grantham on the day presented an unwanted obstacle. WW2 presented another to the 1939 plan.
It overheated a bearing, but still completed the trip under her own steam and didnt need to be towed. I wouldnt call that "breaking" anything. Also they did it on their literal first attempt. WW2 squashed hopes of trying again, it could have gone faster without damaging anything due to teething issues with what was still a new design if they had a few more goes at it.
LocoScrapper i suppose we should pull down tower bridge and the Westminster abbey too? there's too many people in the world, especially in the uk, shall we have a maximum age limit to help the nhs? hmm? shut up.

Steam locomotives can in fact go much faster than 125 to 126 mph.

I could only imagine the reciprocating forces on those side rods at 126
Maybe for the hundredth anniversary of that record-setting run they'll bring Mallard back into steam. Now that'll be a sight to see.

1:20 why do you put a LED on a historic steam train
To see better??????? I dont know
well I don't think you see much more with those LEDs but they look ridicilous on a steam train
they were probably originally acetylene drip torches.
