      Kevin O’Leary was always my favorite shark.
      In high school we had to do face drawings in art class. We had to draw half of a famous persons face. I chose Kevin O’Leary and damn I spent weeks on that thing. In the end it actually looked really nice... but my teacher had no idea who he was...😥

    Having been concerned about finances throughout my entire adulthood, it's captivating to observe this video and realize that one can achieve alot if goals are set right. Experiencing the freedom of not being preoccupied with the financial concerns that consumed me for numerous years is truly liberating. I suppose this is the result of putting in diligent effort for the future.

      It has to do with a lot. It's political correctness that fucks up everything. Bad decisions are made, so politicians look good and get re-elected. Remember, it's all a shit show, or a political reality show. If someone tells it how it is, he will be painted as a loser, or whatever else, and he doesn't get elected. But that kind of game has long term negative consequences.

His family had video camera in the 50's or 60's that means they were rich. Getting 10,000 loan from mommy should reap its gains.

I'm what happens to people who dedicate their life to the guitar, instead of business. Meanwhile, he has his cake and can eat it too. There is nothing stopping him from playing guitar. This was pretty inspirational. Maybe I can start my own business now and still do well

      The problem is often the fact that you have something that you are passionate about, but that does not necessarily bring in money, but which makes you really happy. On the other hand, there are tons of opportunities out there that will make you really rich but can ultimately make you really miserable as well. If you can find the balance by doing something you love while making good money simultaneously, you have succeeded in life imo. Sure, Kevin has made a lot of money, but do you really want to be a ruthless bastard like him? Is he truly happy in life?
      Look, I've lived a selfish life and I've lived a selfless life and I can guarantee that the latter feels MUCH better! Unfortunately, living selflessly often leaves you broke. It's a sad world folks, but please continue to invest in what makes you happy. The world does not give two shits about you, so you might as well just be happy.

    Everybody who thinks money is nothing is an idiot. Sure you can have happiness without all that money, but you're going to be working some stupid day job making your life a complete hell. People who say money isn't happiness has never had real money. Its like he says, money is freedom. Hell never have to worry about where his next meal comes from or if his electricity will be shut off. He can go off the grid and never show his face again without any worries. And deep down, freedom and security is what EVERYONE wants, I defy you to tell me otherwise. I would take his money over being a kid with a guitar and dreams of being a rockstar any day.

    • @GenerationX1984
      @GenerationX1984 9 лет назад +21

      largec It depends on what you do with it. If you're an evil person then money is evil. People who have the attitude that money is evil will never be rich. I'm kind of on the poor side now but money gravitates to people who have a good attitude toward saving and investing and becoming rich themselves.
      The Wall Street criminals who ruined the economy don't deserve money. They deserve to be killed for the good of humanity.

    • @GenerationX1984
      @GenerationX1984 9 лет назад +25

      Oh, and the love of money is not evil. People are evil. Money is just a tool. If somebody gets beat to death with a hammer is the hammer evil? I don't think so. It's merely a tool. You can love a hammer as long as you use it to build things instead of destroy. Same goes for the love of money.

      But woe to you who are rich,

      Being nice and helpful is a certain way to get rich my friend. You need to help other people in order to help yourself and you obviously can not be a jackass about it! Think of life as a game that you play to your best abilities. You go after what you are worth and you wear the right kind of mask in the right kind of situations. Life is short, opportunities are few so play the game to the best of your abilities and try to not take anything personally. Oh and, do NOT give a shite about what anyone thinks, only what you WANT them to think! Master these skills and no one can ever stop you!
      Now go get it!

    POWERFUL! I don't hear arrogance at all.......I hear a man that only needed to experience the painful feeling of being powerless just once in his life. That moment he was fired hurt him to the core....and his life's mission from that point was to insulate himself from ever having that feeling again. I think great things can happen for anyone when they learn to harness all of their pain and redirect that energy into growth.

  • @gambitboard5021

    I think the most telling part about this clip is the fact that NONE of his family bothered to take part in it. Not wife/ex-wife/wife, not his kids, not his siblings. His step-Dad did, which is fitting because that man is the only reason Kevin isn't a homeless burnout musician.
    His claim about never working for someone else again is false claim, certainly. He has been fired from several positions for incompetence. Mattel. EnGlobe. Companies that imploded under his 'guidance'. He has this knack of decimating the stock price of companies he works at. Mattel sat at around $42 when TLC was bought - a year later $9.36 due exclusively to the failure of the acquisition. EnGlobe, in ONE year of his leadership, drop from $4 shares to a share value of (and this is NOT a misprint) $0.035.
    A 99% loss.
    He didn't invent anything, not even in the beginning. He hired a programmer and rode his coat tails. He didn't create Reader Rabbit, or Carmen San Diego either. He bought them from true inventors with money he didn't own, rode them, and then burned them to the ground with crippling debt.
    And the $4 billion deal he brags about CONSTANTLY? Kevin pocketed a measly $6mil on the total sale (0.15% of total sale price), then lorded over Mattel Interactive as they burned through another billion dollars trying to fix his mistakes, and wound up selling at a 99.5% LOSS to GTG a year later, when he was fired for incompetence, and then sued for misleading shareholders about the health of TLC. THAT lawsuit cost Mattel another $110million to settle. Mattel wishes they had never HEARD of Kevin O'Leary.
    His is a great name to forget.
    A fail-upwards corporate raider whose only talent is fashioning golden parachutes for himself as the companies he controls burn down around him, and lining those parachutes with the retirement funds and stock value of employees he was supposed to lead and protect.
    A nothing-burger. A bozo. A scam artist. Every negative thing he has ever called prospective pitches on Dragon's Den and Shark Tank seems to be a projection of his true self.

    • @fionarofl
      @fionarofl 4 года назад

      this was filmed a few years before kevin left dragon's den. they did an expose on each of the dragons at the time. kevin wasnt the only dragon who didnt have family members appear in the profile (only arlene and robert did if i recall). kevin's mother died, which is why you only see his step-dad in the video. his kids also studied in waterloo -- there could be many factors as to why they werent featured in the clip. the fact that none of his family members decided to appear on the special could mean they want to keep their private lives private as well (at that point in their lives, kevin was starting shark tank and it was only building).
      kevin mentions the mattel incident in his autobiography in case you are interested in reading his side of the story. but the fact that he sold it and only made $6 mil is new to me. he sold a lot of his equity. and that explains why he doesnt talk about that deal so much, cause if he made a lot, he would be tooting that horn lol.
      i have a feeling kevin's wealth was amplified by becoming a television persona. he took whatever backstory he had ($4bil valued company, met steve jobs etc) and turned himself into a very polarizing, cold but funny tv personality which producers would love.
      many negative things hes said on DD/ST are probably lessons he had to learn the hard way, delivered with shock value. hes a very dynamic cast member, and turning him into a 'villian' makes interactions with the other sharks/dragons way more interesting.
      they are trying the same formula with Vincenzo Guzzo on dragon's den, whose taken the role of Kevin (lol). vince calls himself mr. sunshine, and is what you would get if you wanted a toned down version of kevin. tbh, i find him dull, and doesnt provide any meaningful insights into the entrepreneur's business outside of usual talking head points (like jim, daymond or barbara).
      tl;dr - i agree with you that kevin exaggerates his 4 bil mattel deal and tries to conflate it with the size of his wealth. i disagree with your characterization of his offscreen character. hes used everything he's built for himself and crafted a very strong and marketable brand which is even more valuable after his largest business was sold.

    Man, I'm pretty shocked. My "origin" story is very similar to Kevin's. I too got fired because my boss was an ass.
    That was the moment when I realized that I'll never work for anyone but myself again.
    I'm just too much of an alpha to be working for someone else. My boss always tried to reaffirm his "authority over" me until I couldn't take it anymore and told him what I thought about him.
    Best decision I ever made. You'll always be a slave to the system if you work for other people.
    Unlike for others in the comment section my decision turned out to be very beneficial. I've met a plethora of successful and inspiring people and even befriended some of them (like e.g. Martin Shkreli). The reason why is because I understood the importance of networking, self development and personal branding. I will probably even write a book about it (the system that I personally set in place to achieve my goals).

      As Bill Gates put it (though paraphrasingly): anyone who's smart enough is smart enough to not run for president

      The last person you want in charge of public service is a guy who doesn't care about people when it comes to personal finance.

    Congrats Kevin...I worked for a woman, I was painting a wall while talking to the electrician that was working on a light fixture next to me...she came over to me and told me that she was paying me to paint not to talk...that night I packed up all my gear, pack up my van, and on the road...from that moment on I will never work for anyone again...
    Peace of Mind is the best revenge!!!

    I too have made the decision to never work for anyone else just like Kevin. No one will ever tell me what to do. I realize that in our society, the guys at the bottom of the job chain will always get screwed over while the guy at the top gets filthy rich. This happens in every company. Anything from the cashiers of Mcdonald's to the engineers of software companies. Sure the engineers get payed 100k a year but that is only a small fraction of the money that they are making for their CEO. I decide not to be a part of the system and I will succeed
