I still don't get how "Look at what he accomplished" is an argument. He had and still has embarrassingly easy paths at every tournament. And still England routinely made very hard work of cannon fodder and lost to *every* *single* actually good team they played. The *only* scalp of his career is a modest win over arguably the worst German side in half a century.
This group was quite similar to England's Italia 90 group in that from 6 group games only 1 match had a winner that being England beating Egypt 1-0. The other 5 games involving England, Egypt, Ireland and Netherlands were draws. It was pretty dull.
I knew from the off Slovenia would draw all three games. They have Oblak, Sesko, and a whole bunch of nobodies. That’s a recipe for a draw against mid level teams like Denmark and Serbia, and teams that play like 11 loafs of stale bread like Southgate’s England
My grandma could have coached England to win that game. England has by far the most valueable team in the entire tournament (/France). They need to DOMINATE this group if they even perform remotely close to their abilities. But Southgate is the british Joachim Löw (im german so that comparison looks so obvious to me). The team is only successful when it starts to actively ignore the tactical advice of the manager.
I think the tiebreaker that actually decided the placing of Slovenia and Denmark was the diciplinary record (which was not the same, Slovenia had one yellow card more). If the qualifying result is the same it gets decided by FIFA rankings i think. And I think that after that it should definetly be decided. If because of some unknown reason two countries have the same FIFA ranking (which is of course not possible) maybe they just do a coin toss
As a Man Utd fan, watching England really reminds me of how we play. No creativity or risk, and just hope for a star player to do the incredible to score. The only time they start trying is when they are 1 goal down or the last 5-10 mins
At this point of the tournament the host ivory coast fires their coach after losing 2 games in the group stage, Tunisia, Algeria and ghana where knocked out😂😂
Group D should have been the later games. That group was so entertaining and good from start to finish. Austria winning that group was awesome. Had England had one of those teams in their group, I believe they don't win the group.
Actually, Denmark did have a better disciplinary record, according to what I've seen. In the Slovenia-Denmark game, the Slovenian bench got a yellow card, but that doesn't show on UEFA stats, even though it apparently counts for discipline. If I am wrong though, yeah, it didn't make a difference due to the qualifying record. And Denmark and Slovenia were in the same group there as well.
Good video. My 2 cents, same as in FM, midfield is the key. Rice is playing a different role than he is good at playing, leaving all kinds of space for opponents to abuse. When this happens and the rest of the midfield doesn't know how to play off eachother, then there are just huge gaps and they can't find good passing alternatives, loosing the ball and forcing players like Foden and Kane to drop lower to get involved. Southgate is the root cause of the issue, as he is telling these players what to do, but the things they get told to do is either wrong or they just can't do it. If they can't do it, they should be replaced with other players. If they do what they are told, then Southgate should be replaced. Everyone can see this isn't working.
Actually Denmark got second on disciplinary record. With a draw they added the staff yellow cards. So an assistant coach for Slovenia getting a yellow meant they got third.
Southgate bold strategy, reminiscent of Homer Simpson in the boxing ring. Just holding. Boring the opponent into a stupefied fug they can prod over with a set piece, penalty or tap in. Preferably against a concussed goal keeper.
Of course they can draw their way to the title! You bring up the prime example yourself: Portugal 2016. If you remember Portugal turning on the afterburners after they drew all three of their preliminary matches, you misremember. They beat Croatia 1-0 after extra time, Poland after penalties, Wales 2-0 (the only game in the entire tournament they won after 90 minutes), and France 1-0 after ET again. But in the end, it's UEFA's own fault that teams are more risk-averse overall at this tournament. With Almost all third-placed teams advancing to the round of 16, the biggest thing to avoid has become placing last, and you do that by not losing. Until 2012, you were able to tell who made it through and who didn't after the third game had been played. Now, with the early groups, you have to wait and see how many other teams manage to be a better third-placed team before you can say anything with confidence. "VAR is bad, because it delays the decisions and makes the game less spontaneous" has become the battle cry of everybody who is afraid of getting things right; but nobody seems to care that six-groups Euros do the same thing, only the delay is multiple days instead of a minute.
"has become the battle cry of everybody who is afraid of getting things right" Im not afraid of getting things right - i just dont accept waiting 5 minutes for a wrong decision. Rather have a wrong decision directly after it happened. VAR is such a good idea, but it has been mistreated so badly you have to get rid of it, because tides are certainly not turning anymore.
England, in terms of all 22 players, have by far the best outfit at the euros, no other team can brag two top first teams. Southgates done, they're too easy to figure out, watched last night's game, it could have still been going on right now and it would still be 0-0.
Slovenia did well for themselves and Hjulmand scored a banger, the rest of the story of this group is a cure for insomnia Actually Serbias last minute comeback was also great, as futile as it ultimately ended up being
To be fair, Denmark vs Slovenia was pretty entertaining. Every other game though (I didn’t watch Slovenia vs Serbia so I can’t speak on that one) was extremely boring. Edit: Qualifying record wasn’t involved in this group stage as Denmark had a -6 disciplinary record and Slovenia had -7
You've basically summed up my thoughts on how England have been playing all tournament, England right now are playing like they expect to win, where as teams like Georgia, Turkey, Austria, Hungary are all playing like they want to win So many managers want to play like Pep, Southgate is one of them, the problem is, he's not Pep
Southgate and Pep in one sentence is so immensely funny and i dont know where this is coming from 💀 As Southgates playing style is SO MUCH closer to Mourinho than it ever was to Guardiola (and i feel dirty insulting mourinho like that). I dont know where this idea of Southgate copying Pep is coming from, but it does not allign with Englands NT. Southgates top priority is defense. And he achives that by playing a 9-1-0 after LEADING. What he lacks compared to Mourinho is an actual idea how to make a team good at counter attacks and the lack of identification of his players (Players go out and would die for Mou (in the first 3 years lol), not for Garreth eh) with his idea. And he lacks everything Guardiola does. Starting from the fundamental idea of playing positive football and ending with Pep making Foden the PL POTY while Southgates makes him a foreign body in the national team.
As an England fan, it's been f******g depressing so far, only Southgate could take the bundesliga top scorer, La Liga's player of the year and the EPL player of the year and play them in a system in which they are totally ineffective. Along with leaving the EPL 2nd highest scorer on the bench for 2.5 games, Palmer looked great when he came on against Slovenia, we looked like we had half a clue again for 30 mins, bet he's back on the bench again Sunday. Said it long before the tournament, Southgate has already been in charge one tournament too long. We need someone to build a family atmosphere in the dressing room, shows a bit of passion, understands the players they have available and how to play them effectively and above all, doesn't wear grey 100% of the time
Re "you can't draw your way to the finals". My quasi conspiracy theory is that managers like this don't even mind the game going to penalties. Easiest alibi for them. Which kinda makes sense for underdogs, but not of you're England. This sounds a bit dramatic and I don't think it's literally true, but you wonder sometimes.
@@samotrebusak4231 HI! Dont worry! If you play us like England we produce similarly bad results. We cant cope with aggressive defenses. We just dont play a nice and casual 9-1-0 when leading like England does lol
Respectfully disagree - the Denmark vs England game was end to end chaos by England standards, with the clear goal of the tournament so far, and the fact that it remained only 1-1 was crazy to me.
As a Slovenia-loving Dane I'll just say, that this has been a blast. Denmark has only scored two goals, but both could be in contention for goal of the tournament. Giving away freebies is what has cost. Serbia - thankfully - was sent home in disgrace. Worst "fans" in the world and how in the heck can you not make it work with offensive talent like that??? Favourite moment from last night was then Joachim Andersen grabbed Mitrovic by the throat and told him to stop being a pussy - and then the ref almost did the same. :D Slovenia were closer to 4-1 than Denmark to 2-0 in that opener. I'm grateful we held them to a draw and I don't doubt for a second, that they can keep upsetting. Collective goes hard here, a bit like Iceland 10'ish years ago. And then England... I mean... How does a team that good keep looking that bad??? And worst part is; I still see them as odds on favourites for the entire thing along with Germany and Portugal... It was a joy to follow this group as a follower of 3 of the teams. Disappointing? Sure. Boring? Hell nah man! I was on the edge of my seat for the last 25 minutes last night. A score in either game could completely flip the script and there were chances! They might've not gone in, but all 4 teams had a shot and all but Serbia looked like they had some interest in taking it.
People complained about Ben White not wanting to play for Southgate. The fact Southgate can’t see why is pretty telling… the guy has gone beyond “ignore the haters” to “I don’t know what’s going on” It appears none of the players want to play for him either
Every England tournament run under Southgate has been the same, England getting easy draws, winning unconvincingly against lesser teams and then getting beaten by the first half decent they come up against
Least we saw a big improvement yesterday with mainoo playing and sorting out the midfield. Thought gordon looked great when he came on too and palmer had a decent 20 mins or so
Been saying it since Southgate was appointed, he's the worst manager at every tournament he's taken england to. He managed Middlesbrough, got relegated, got sacked . . Then england U21s, then england 1st team. He's tactically inept, has cowardly tactics and can NOT understand when the opposition tweaks something. We don't get knocked out when we come up agaisnt a good team, ots when we come up against a good manager. The players quality papers over the cracks.
I find it funny that a title contender like England (same with Italy and France) plays so bad that i find it more as a surprise they got through the group. No way they will win the tournament. More likely they lose immediately in the round of 16 if they continue like this.
6:12 Im not quite sure at which point this is happening but at some point the comparisons (that matter) are running out so... ultimately a coin flip will decide such a thing lol
England managing to score only 2 goals in 3 group matches tells me they will proceed to score the same number of goals as humans alive in their run to the final, which they will inevitably lose
Eh? Makes no sense what you wrote there. Denmark didn't win the group, but you're right that as Denmark face Germany next it will probably be their next game. 😂
Let’s be real though England have had some lucky draws since wc2018 - 2018 - Tunisia, Panama, Belgium (lost), Colombia (p), Sweden, Croatia (lost) 2020 - Croatia, Czech, Scotland, Germany (best win), Ukraine, Denmark, Italy (lost) WC 2022 - USA, Iran and wales, Senegal, France (lost). Euro 2024 - Denmark, Serbia, Slovenia and if Czech Republic beat turkey then I do believe England will avoid the Netherlands!

I genuinely think that Zealand could've coached England to a win in that game.
*Throws water bottle at that performance
I watched this, and just as I was finishing I got a notification Georgia scored with in the first 2 minutes against Portugal
Zealand, brother man, rocking the hell out of that suck hair look, chin up, fluids, bounce back. Already know how it goes for Comeback Z.
I Haven't Seen A Group This Bad Since Group D At AFCON 2015
I haven’t seen a group this bad since Coldplay.
Southgate to United confirmed?!?!
@LiftandCoa - That would send Mark Goldbridge to the padded room fr 🤣👍
Also, Big Up to Georgia! Congrats 🇬🇪
Banger video (I've seen 5s)
Zealandism is my religion Zealand Shannon is my lord and saviour
Actually, Denmark did have a better disciplinary record, according to what I've seen. In the Slovenia-Denmark game, the Slovenian bench got a yellow card, but that doesn't show on UEFA stats, even though it apparently counts for discipline.
If I am wrong though, yeah, it didn't make a difference due to the qualifying record. And Denmark and Slovenia were in the same group there as well.
Group E cooking as much as this group
Denmark beating Slovenia in the table is even crazier when you realise they were in the same group in qualifying... and ended up level on points
And they could play each other again in the semi final...a neverending shootout 😅
Will be very interesting as very likely England vs Netherlands. It will be which team starts to click or penalty lottery boredom.
"has become the battle cry of everybody who is afraid of getting things right"
Im not afraid of getting things right - i just dont accept waiting 5 minutes for a wrong decision.
Rather have a wrong decision directly after it happened.
VAR is such a good idea, but it has been mistreated so badly you have to get rid of it, because tides are certainly not turning anymore.
Can't wait for the group E video 😂
It was like USA 94 all over again with Italy, Ireland, Mexico and Norway all ending on 4. Only Norway missed out.
England, in terms of all 22 players, have by far the best outfit at the euros, no other team can brag two top first teams. Southgates done, they're too easy to figure out, watched last night's game, it could have still been going on right now and it would still be 0-0.
England hardly has the best 22 players, that "title" still goes to France.
I like Belgium's outfit today more. The baby blues are way better than the boring English white. Almost every country has better outfits tbh
Didn't even matter, they will be crushed by other big boys in Euro. Even Austria and Georgia have more chance to win now than England
Huh? What? Sorry, I’ve been a asleep since the England game
We have a Championship level manager, we play with a handicap every game.
Slovenia did well for themselves and Hjulmand scored a banger, the rest of the story of this group is a cure for insomnia
Actually Serbias last minute comeback was also great, as futile as it ultimately ended up being
Group C is the Big Ten West (RIP)
To be fair, Denmark vs Slovenia was pretty entertaining. Every other game though (I didn’t watch Slovenia vs Serbia so I can’t speak on that one) was extremely boring.
Edit: Qualifying record wasn’t involved in this group stage as Denmark had a -6 disciplinary record and Slovenia had -7
You've basically summed up my thoughts on how England have been playing all tournament, England right now are playing like they expect to win, where as teams like Georgia, Turkey, Austria, Hungary are all playing like they want to win
So many managers want to play like Pep, Southgate is one of them, the problem is, he's not Pep
Southgate and Pep in one sentence is so immensely funny and i dont know where this is coming from 💀
As Southgates playing style is SO MUCH closer to Mourinho than it ever was to Guardiola (and i feel dirty insulting mourinho like that).
We need someone to build a family atmosphere in the dressing room, shows a bit of passion, understands the players they have available and how to play them effectively and above all, doesn't wear grey 100% of the time
Group E was tight as well
Group E is wild every team ended with 4 points
Re "you can't draw your way to the finals". My quasi conspiracy theory is that managers like this don't even mind the game going to penalties. Easiest alibi for them. Which kinda makes sense for underdogs, but not of you're England. This sounds a bit dramatic and I don't think it's literally true, but you wonder sometimes.
9:00 Agree! Except for Scotland, they were just as painful to watch imo
Zealand: “Thank you Slovenia for Luka Jovic’s 90 min equalizer for Serbia”
I think many of us in Slovenia too will be thanking him for it, otherwise we would had a date with Germans...
@@samotrebusak4231 HI! Dont worry! If you play us like England we produce similarly bad results. We cant cope with aggressive defenses.
We just dont play a nice and casual 9-1-0 when leading like England does lol
@@LiftandCoa thanks for rating your defence so highy, but I still prefer Danes facing you rather than us.
Slovenia were closer to 4-1 than Denmark to 2-0 in that opener.
The fact Southgate can’t see why is pretty telling… the guy has gone beyond “ignore the haters” to “I don’t know what’s going on”
It appears none of the players want to play for him either
no wonder ben white doesn’t wanna play for england
Fun fact: Germany has 1 more goal than the entire group C combined
denmark actually advanced on disciplinary iirc, but yes that was a fucking snooze fest that group
I think it literally has an effect on the economy, imagine the amount of beers that would have been bought if it wasn’t so dull. It’s miserable
I find it funny that a title contender like England (same with Italy and France) plays so bad that i find it more as a surprise they got through the group. No way they will win the tournament. More likely they lose immediately in the round of 16 if they continue like this.
If the third place team we get is netherlands, then yes 100%
Olimpija! 🐉🐸💚
6:12
Im not quite sure at which point this is happening but at some point the comparisons (that matter) are running out
so... ultimately a coin flip will decide such a thing lol
England managing to score only 2 goals in 3 group matches tells me they will proceed to score the same number of goals as humans alive in their run to the final, which they will inevitably lose
Get well soon
Olimpija's captain is a Slovenia starter #10 Timi Max Elsnik.
It’s coming home
Slovenia is about to win the Euros. Mark my word
As a Danish fan, we won the group yeah, but we face germany next so it will probably be our next game 😢❤
Eh? Makes no sense what you wrote there. Denmark didn't win the group, but you're right that as Denmark face Germany next it will probably be their next game. 😂
BALLIN', But at what cost 😢
@@betman6774 getting the points we did with england, serbia, and slovenia in our current form feels like winning the group
You gotta assume that if England don't go deep into the tournament that Southgate is finish right?
Dr Disrespect is a pdf-file
Unfortunately
Jude goal against Serbia lots of respect
We umm, we're peaking late?? maybe.. Yeh nah, even the commentators over here knows Denmark have barely justified their ticket so far.
At least Denmark can only surprise against Germany😂
Let’s be real though England have had some lucky draws since wc2018 -
2018 - Tunisia, Panama, Belgium (lost), Colombia (p), Sweden, Croatia (lost)
2020 - Croatia, Czech, Scotland, Germany (best win), Ukraine, Denmark, Italy (lost)
WC 2022 - USA, Iran and wales, Senegal, France (lost).
Euro 2024 - Denmark, Serbia, Slovenia and if Czech Republic beat turkey then I do believe England will avoid the Netherlands!
belgium are getting knocked out... you heard it here
Put England in Copa America next time around. I want a 0-0 draw where the English team are getting assulted for 90 minutes.
all i have to say is that all of the countries in group c should never be in the same group again
i actualy fell asleep during england vs slovenia
