It may be allowed by the rules but that doesn't make it not stupid to watch. The penalty taker already has advantages over the keeper. I like your idea of giving the keeper the chance to leave the line as soon as a stutter happens. The keeper can't do anything to distract the penalty taker, per the rules, but the taker can dance around like an idiot all he wants.

    • @LiftandCoa

@@LiftandCoa the GK is generally allowed to do that. The rules state: The goalkeeper must not behave In a way that unfairly distracts the kicker, e.g. delay the taking of the kick or touch the goalposts, crossbar or goal net.
"Distract the kicker" could be interpreted in any number of ways by the referee. Generally, anything goes as long as it doesn't break the letter of the law, but there seem to be more restrictions on keepers than on kickers.

Hes a terrible penalty taker (for Poland that is), im confident in saying I've seen him miss at least 3 of 4 times which is... crazy. He'd been doing the same nonsense for a long time, and it works the same way everytime - absolutely terribly.
In general, in Poland Lewandowski is revered as a club player but strongly disliked as a national team player, despite playing 100+ games and scoring countless goals - because everytime he's on the pitch, the team (probably because of terrible coaches we've had for like 15 years now, our new one despite being an extreme underdog doing the opposite for once) plays terribly, because EVERY SINGLE PLAY is done to get the ball to him, doesn't matter if he's in the box or in the midfield or his own half, and let him figure it out. No wonder he scored a lot since every single play is done to pass it to him in the end. Good for his stats but CANCEROUS for the national team.
Love him as a player but I was so happy to see rhe Polish team to... lose to Netherlands 1-2 but actually PLAY WELL AND INTERESTING WITHOUT LEWA, and play actual football vs France without doing everything to pass to him every play.
It's funny since we were literally knocked out 1st from the tournament and a majority of Poles is actually very positive about the way they played for the first time since I can remember and I'm 30, all because we finally have a coach who doesn't just play everything to Lewandowski and keep calling the same old ass players again and again, and takes risks and calls young talents even If they only play in the shit Polish league or like Serie B.

I'm old enough to remember a time when the GK wasn't even allowed to move before a penalty was shot. When I took a penalty back then, I would put the ball on the spot and make a great effort to show the GK that I was going to shoot left-footed. I'd run up as if I was taking it left-footed. Then I'd alter my run-up subtly to shoot right-footed and when I would put my left foot next to the ball, the GK would usually start diving and I could then shoot into the other direction. If somehow I flubbed it, I would get to retake the penalty because the GK moved.

"the player taking the penalty kick or a team-mate offends:
feinting to kick the ball once the kicker has completed the run-up (feinting in the run-up is permitted); the referee cautions the kicker".
My interpretation of the law, as written, is that while I personally dont think either one should be allowed, Lewandowski's first stop halfway through the run up seems to be legal, while I would argue that the second time he stops was close enough to the ball to be considered "feinting to kick the ball" and therefore the penalty should not have been retaken, indirect free kick to France.
Thats my take on it, but what do I know, I'm just an amateur referee who studies the laws of the game way more closely than someone at my level (youth club and high school soccer in the US) should care to

This would actually make penalties great again. And penalties as tie breakers should be combined with the silver goal rule to promote offensive football.

It's like golf. Once you go for swing. That's it. Counts as a stroke. So penalty taken if stop = Missed pen.. Goalie should be allowed to move off line into the six yard area once the penalty taker moves towards the ball after ref whistle.

Stop = no motion, lewandowski has mastered pushing his boy forward while he “stops” so that he is still in motion, thus the reason it counts

I agree. Its stupid the goalie has to hold the line. The second the ref blows his whistle to goalie should be free to do whatever he wants. You want to charge the kick, go ahead. It would make penalties more exciting. Last i checked Toney was still perfect from the pk.

The minute I stopped picking a spot and started stuttering all my pens went in. It’s definitely a tactic to use but you need to train it. I would do it for hours till I know I’m gonna score.

My proposal: The keeper must start with at least one foot on the line. Once the taker starts their run up, the keeper can leave their line, but must stay within the 6-yard box until the ball is struck by the taker.

  • @dontwannaname

In the end, the rule makers want the penalty taker to score so the rules are weighted in their favour. The whole point of the penalty is to punish an infringement (with the exception of the penalty shootout).

It may be legal but it's not right when keepers get penalised for coming off their line. To have any real chance of saving a penalty you need to anticipate when the strike will happen otherwise If you wait it's nearly always past you before you can react. You however can't anticipate if you have to wait, infact with the two rules in play Keepers alsmot have to take a split second to ensure it's struck making a low percentage chance of saving even lower. You just can't allow both, the second a run up is stopped the line rule should go out of the window

The rules are pretty clear, Lewandowski and many others used to stop and fake out the gk.
Now they have to be in motion all the time.....and he is. He's obviously really slow on his last stutter step, but his legs are always faster than 0.0 m/s and that's playing it by the rules.

My personal problem is that the rules are unfairly balanced. It isn't the stutter rule per-se, I agree, while it's there, Strikers should take advantage.. However, it's more the level of scrutiny on the goalkeeper. GKs are pulled up for being half an inch off the line after 9 different dance moves from the taker, and I think that is unfair. How can you possibly know when you can dive, if the striker has done so many movements. Needs to be a more level playing field, as a Penalty is already stacked towards the striker anyway.
I personally would ban the stutter for "One continuous movement towards the ball." and there would likely be more penalty saves because of it. The goalie then knows when to move and it becomes a fairer contest. It still favours the striker, but not as much.
FIFA will argue, more goals = more entertainment, but I would argue that Penalty saves are just as entertaining as a penalty scored, maybe more so.

The rule says the penalty kick has to be done in a single motion and that the player is only allowed to touch the ball once, it has never been a secret
Penalties are not meant to be fair. As the name suggests, they are meant to penalize someone exactly because they, intentionally or not, took an anti-game and unfair action inside the box

    • @shimmy7169
      @shimmy7169 5 месяцев назад +1

Not to mention, stopping and starting pits the odds in the goalkeepers favour as the striker has less power on the ball due to less momentum. Notice the goalkeeper saving the penalty but sadly doing it illegally at first. If the goalie stayed on his line he would have had more reaction time to catch the ball , and due to less run up, also had even more time to predict where the ball was going.
Unfortunately on the second time, goalkeeper was very narrowly outsmarted, and that’s on the goalie and not what the player was doing.

I've been following football pundits on RUclips covering Copa America in both English and Spanish, and there's a consensus that the United States of America should not be hosting the tournament.
Our friends south of the border are feeling anger and resentment because the USA, with lots of American dollars, is hosting the CA tournament.
The display of animosity was apparent when, at the end of the game, Christian Pulisic, the captain of the American team, attempted to shake hands with the South American officials. However, they refused to shake his hand. This act was seen as despicable and disrespectful to the USA, which had graciously agreed to host the tournament after Ecuadro could not.
As a result of this incident, throughout the tournament the USMNT players were targeted by unfair one side during the tournament and punished by unfair officiting punished by our friends from south of the border.

In my opinion a penalty should be always like 80/20 and not 50/50. With adding that the gk can get closer it would make way more sense to just foul if you think it stops a shot that will most likely go in and thats probably why this rule exists. So the penalty taker has a really good chance of scoring. Also cant blame Lewandowski here for knowing the rules, if he misses the gk probably left his line if he scores, yeah I mean then he scores

They just keep taking away any tools the goalie has to save the penalty. First it was your foot has to be on the line, then it was you can't touch the crossbar bar, then it was you can't yell at the taker, then it was you can't show the taker gestures, then it was you can't dance after saves. Just get rid of the goalie entirely, move the pen spot closer or award goals for fouls in the area at this point.
