We are unable to truly fathom the sacrifices that have been made on our behalf and there is no way for us to repay it without committing that sacrifice ourselves (which you are already putting yourself in that situation being in the military, thank you for that). I feel guilty every day for not serving this country in some capacity. For us average citizens, the closest we can get is to stand up and put our hands over our hearts in honor of those men and women. Its not even that we disagree with Kaps message even though some might. He can plead ignorance if he wants, but that doesn't change the disrespect associated with what he did. There is a time and place for protest and in my opinion, during the national anthem is the absolute last place for that. Especially when the entire reason we stand for the anthem is to respect/honor fallen warriors. The only thing someone is doing while kneeling is disregarding that sacrifice as unimportant (when you look at it fundamentally). I appreciate your honesty and open mindedness. We need more of that nowadays. I too can see both sides, but i am not willing to excuse the act in retrospect. This is something we used to learn in lower school. If our kids today, who look up to such celebrities, were to take on this defiance and cause against our symbols of freedom, what kind of repercussions do you think that could have when they are adults? Is it really protesting injustice?...or is it making a statement that could have been made in many other ways outside of disrespecting the dead who gave him the freedom that provided his wealth? It takes looking at all history, good and bad, knowing how we gained this freedom to choose, and teaching our future generations to respect that if we are to keep it. Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We have to fight for it, defend it, and hand it to our children with the well taught meaning we have faced. If we do not do this, we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in America when men were free. I would like to suggest you listen to one of the most brilliant speeches ever made, imo, and is more relevant today than it has ever been considering the upcoming elections. We've never been in more danger of losing freedom than we are right now. It's agonizing to see so many who don't even realize that danger coming. Look up Ronald Reagan's speech "A Time For Choosing". As he said, there is no right or left; only an up or down. He warned what would happen if we took the wrong course...and here we are about to hit that wall. Wake up, young man...help others to see what their future may be too if things don't change very soon. I would also suggest looking into the great mind of Thomas Sowell. He is literally a national treasure who has a way of capturing people's attention of those who hear or read his works. as i always say. we stand for the national anthem because our fallen cant. i was taught this by my father. thats why its disrespectful to kneel for the anthem. the anthem isnt for the government and the flag isnt the government. both are for the people and the warriors who fight to keep us free. kneeling dont do anything to the government but it dose to us people and our fallen. their is other ways to protest the government. thats all most of us were trying to say. our country is by far the best country in the world. yes we have flaws but so dose every person on the planet. no ones past is clean. every race owned slaves, every race has committed atrocities to others and every nation/country has been in wars.

The video you watched is highly inaccurate. This was NOT between the American colonies and Britain at all. This was between the United States government and Britain in the War of 1812. And it wasn't for a group of prisoners, it was for a Dr. William Beanes. And it wasn't a prisoner exchange. Beanes was being released based on testimonials that he was a good guy, many of them from British soldiers.

Ironically, later on in his life he met and married a great Japanese lady named Fusako Shindo (whose parents were killed in the bombing of Hiroshima) My Grandpa, Albert Fletcher, who was an apple farmer back home where I come from in Northern California, ended up going to Mare Island Naval Shipyard and was the chief mechanic there who repaired the many ships coming in from WW2. My Aunt Irma who was a Red Cross nurse, was there the morning of December 7th 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked. I like countless others who have had family serve our country hold strong ties to our country and what it stands for and I just don't get the younger generation who have this flagrant disregard. It's your young age and non experience of never having to face such battles like our family had to. You have it easy busy growing up playing video games and not much else. Many foreigners who have watched this video actually cried to know the history and they weren't Americans but they love America. Don't be fooled by this video! It's not historically accurate! Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner after watching the bombardment of Fort McHenry (not Fort Henry). The Battle of Baltimore occurred during the War of 1812, 30 years after the US was recognized by England as a sovereign country! Fort McHenry was a military coastal defense fortress built between 1790 and 1800, was garrisoned by 1,000 US Army troops, and mounted 20 heavy guns (18, 24, and 32 pounder cannon). There weren't "hundreds of ships", there were 19 smaller warships which represented only slightly more firepower than HMS Victory alone. There were only 28 casualties in Fort McHenry and 27 of them were on the outer earthwork battery 100 yards away from the flagpole. Besides, no one could hold up a flagpole 90 feet tall weighing around 2 tons. In a word, this video is almost complete fabrication.
Colon has nothing to bitch about. He needs to grow up. My family has bern fighting for this country since the 1700s. When Colon Kraperneck throws on a uniform and goes to war, he has something I might listen to. Man still trying to play football and nobody is going for it. His actions to this day are unforgiveable. We have detailed, contemporaneous eye-witness reports by the military commanders who were there, which are rather more reliable than a *poem* written by someone who was EIGHT MILES away (and *never visited the fort* afterwards) reinterpreted 200 years later by a rabble-rousing pastor who (to put it politely) "never let the truth get in the way of a good story". There were no 'hundreds of people in chains' on board the ships, there were no women and children in the fort, and no ultimatum was given. The fort was bombarded by FIVE ships not 'hundreds', each of which had a single long-range mortar: the fort had four times the firepower of the attacking ships. Nobody died holding up the flagpole (which would have been impossible as it was a 75 foot repurposed ship's mast, weighing over a ton). We not only know how many died, but we know their names and how they died - and *none them died holding up the flag.* Rather than celebrate fictional sacrifice, wouldn't it be better to remember the *four real patriots* who died: Artillerymen Lt Claggett and Sgt Clemm died when their cannon overturned, militiaman Charles Messinger struck while carrying water to the outer perimeter, and militiaman Thomas Beeston hit by shapnel. Speaking as a Navy veteran, we don't need to perpetuate this romanticized fiction - this is just 'stolen valor' by proxy.

My Aunt Irma who was a Red Cross nurse, was there the morning of December 7th 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked. I like countless others who have had family serve our country hold strong ties to our country and what it stands for and I just don't get the younger generation who have this flagrant disregard. It's your young age and non experience of never having to face such battles like our family had to. You have it easy busy growing up playing video games and not much else. Many foreigners who have watched this video actually cried to know the history and they weren't Americans but they love America.
Again, were a coach of any team sport and I saw anyone pull that move of kneeling towards our flag and they refused to stand with hand on their hearts, their heads would be spinning so fast and kicked off the team immediately! I don't put up with that nonsense!

Don't be fooled by this video! It's not historically accurate! Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner after watching the bombardment of Fort McHenry (not Fort Henry). The Battle of Baltimore occurred during the War of 1812, 30 years after the US was recognized by England as a sovereign country! Fort McHenry was a military coastal defense fortress built between 1790 and 1800, was garrisoned by 1,000 US Army troops, and mounted 20 heavy guns (18, 24, and 32 pounder cannon). There weren't "hundreds of ships", there were 19 smaller warships which represented only slightly more firepower than HMS Victory alone. There were only 28 casualties in Fort McHenry and 27 of them were on the outer earthwork battery 100 yards away from the flagpole. Besides, no one could hold up a flagpole 90 feet tall weighing around 2 tons.
In a word, this video is almost complete fabrication.
Colon has nothing to bitch about. He needs to grow up. My family has bern fighting for this country since the 1700s. When Colon Kraperneck throws on a uniform and goes to war, he has something I might listen to. Man still trying to play football and nobody is going for it. His actions to this day are unforgiveable. My biggest complaint. Not your uniform, not your stadium, not your tv time paid for, and the people are there to watch football, not your personal issues. You want to act disrespectful and stupid at a place, your time, your dime.

If you look at the description of the original video (channel Mona Rose) you will see they admit that it is *NOT* historically accurate.
We have detailed, contemporaneous eye-witness reports by the military commanders who were there, which are rather more reliable than a *poem* written by someone who was EIGHT MILES away (and *never visited the fort* afterwards) reinterpreted 200 years later by a rabble-rousing pastor who (to put it politely) "never let the truth get in the way of a good story".
There were no 'hundreds of people in chains' on board the ships, there were no women and children in the fort, and no ultimatum was given. The fort was bombarded by FIVE ships not 'hundreds', each of which had a single long-range mortar: the fort had four times the firepower of the attacking ships. Nobody died holding up the flagpole (which would have been impossible as it was a 75 foot repurposed ship's mast, weighing over a ton). We not only know how many died, but we know their names and how they died - and *none them died holding up the flag.* Rather than celebrate fictional sacrifice, wouldn't it be better to remember the *four real patriots* who died: Artillerymen Lt Claggett and Sgt Clemm died when their cannon overturned, militiaman Charles Messinger struck while carrying water to the outer perimeter, and militiaman Thomas Beeston hit by shapnel.
Speaking as a Navy veteran, we don't need to perpetuate this romanticized fiction - this is just 'stolen valor' by proxy.
Colin can do what he wants it’s his 1st amendment right. But it’s my right to disagree with where he chose to make that statement. It was demeaning to the millions of fallen soldiers in the conflicts over the years. We stand with our hand over our hearts or salute if you have served because we are respecting those loses. It was done during football our national sport in a major limelight. And though I give him the right to do it. It’s my right to turn of the TV and never support Colin for his in my opinion disrespect. How about he spend some time on the battlefield with some brothers and see how he feels after that!
I respect you for being in the military. thank you for standing for us, but I cannot watch this video anymore. True patriotism would not have even thought about standing behind Kaepernick for kneeling. If you want to protest do it somewhere else and damn sure don’t use the flag. Because that is one good way to piss a true patriot off no matter who you are.

Everyone had it bad at some point in history. Every race has been enslaved. This is your history and heritage. Don't let anyone take it from you. Others can say what they wish, but millions of men have given up their lives so that you and I can live free. That is why we stand for the flag. It's not about what going on today, it's the sacrifices of yesterday. Would the men of today be as brave as these men? Are they willing to make the same sacrifice for others?

Kaep kneeling was his right. Men fought and died for his right to do so. The teams also had a right not to hire him. That’s their right. I just thought he was a trash bag for the pig socks and when given a chance to tryout for teams he skipped or made crazy demands.
