I have a 3 quart presto pressure cooker. My mom gave it to me in 1981. I have only once had to replace the lid seal and the pressure blowout seal. I love it. It makes the best beef stew EVER. I have a small insta-pot, it sucks.
This brought back great memories of my Grandma cooking with a pressure cooker. I inherited her Mirror pressure canner. I need to find a sealing ring for it....Love your channel!
Oh Linda, I bet this is so good. I have a old pressure cooker I used when I was raining my kids, had to cook for an army, lol. Montgomery Ward was one of my favorite stores back in the day, no stores compared. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed evening!
What a great idea for videos...teaching how to use a good old school pressure cooker. I haven't used mine since getting my Instant Pot but need to go back to it once in awhile so I don't forget how to use it. Looking forward to the carrot video. Thanks, Linda!
I'm 65 an my mother made her Beans in the same pressure pot when i was a child an I still cook in the same one today.. I have an instant pot but all way go back to oldie but goodie.. 😂
Thank you so much for this video. I am renting an Airbnb in Santa Marta Colombia and I found an older model pressure cooker in the cupboards. I’m a vegetarian and I love beans, but I hate soaking them for a day and then boiling them for an hour. I want to go ahead and try this pressure cooker, but I have no idea how to use it. This video gave me a great introduction. Wish me luck and thanks again.☺️
had the presto as a kid growing up.. my mom will be 102 in nov and still uses it to do roasts and such.. i have seen her cool it down running water on it.. i love the idea of using mrs wages . putting this idea in my (to do) book.. great idea.. thanks
I also have an older presto 6 quart pressure cooker. My mom gave it to us many years ago as an anniversary gift. She used hers so often and gifted one to us. I have used it a lot over the last 38 years. Great video!
Thanks for going "old school". I have an electric "instapot" type cooker, but love traditional pressure cookers & tend to forget the electric one! I have a variety of them too & recently found a pressure skillet (hadn't known they existed for quite a while). I think it's helpful for folks to know how to use the traditional stove top cookers too.
I will definitely have to try this, looks yummy/ hubby has 2 pressure cookers that he has had forever and they terrify me, always sacred one would explode. (Once you go on that call you can’t unsee it) He loves using them and refuses to try the instant pot.
Try it folks, YOU will love it! My favorite is a classic roast on a weeknight in 45 mins. Pulled pork is awesome too. So many things to make in a pressure cooker.
You can get the vintage pressure regulators on eBay for about 8$. I have the Mirro matic and love it! My Presto cookers and my canners are such work horses. I love to do a chicken in my pressure cooker for dumplings, dressing, and chicken rice. It literally falls off the bone. So tender. Wish I could find the pressure skillet. I love and use the vintage kitchenware.
Looks delicious. I have an Instant Pot but have never used it. Would like to get a stove top pressure cooker-just in case of a grid down situation. It would take less water, fuel and time to cook foods. Thanks for another great video!
I love the idea of using Mrs wages as this evening also. My old Miro canner that I always had I would make a big pot of vegetable soup in often. The other things I like to make in them were pot roast with potatoes and carrots and in those I had room enough to add some cabbage for almost like a New England boiled dinner type thing. Another was corned beef and cabbage my canner was just about the right size to use as a pressure cooker for those meals and to have more than just one meal I could have some planned leftovers which helped out a lot in those days
You inspired me to dust off my pressure cookers. Can The presto weights for the pressure canner be use with the pressure cooker? I lost mine for the pressure cooker.
Just out of curiousity why cant you can say 4 pints in it. What is the difference between a food presure canner and a canning presure canner. Always wondered that.
This pressure cooker will hold 4 quarts of liquid. A pressure canner needs to hold four actual quart jars standing up to ensure it's large enough for canning.
I've use mine to can pint jars for years. I have 2 different sizes, one holds 4, one holds six. Both owners manuals say it's OK to use for half pint and pint jar canning. I've never had problems. I use my quart jar one for quarts. Now that kids have left home we use more pint size.
Thank you! It’s so difficult to find non insta pot content on YT.

Thanks for sharing this. Great idea to use Mrs Wages. I have my mom's old pressure cooker.
I love that you’re doing this I’ve used this for years until I got an instant pot. Kids don’t know how to use these things. Keep up the good work .

I have 3 different sizes of those cookers. Love using them for meat and beans.

I love your cheery disposition, especially in days like these. Keep smiling. Be healthy, stay safe and many blessings, Morgan
Thank you.
Yummy
I love the Mrs Wages salsa mix. It smells so wonderful when you open it. I like the idea of using it as seasoning too.

Pinto beans are my favorite, I always put salt pork in mine.
At 9:16 "I'll have my Alexa" lol

I love my 6 qt. Presto. It's the reason I don't own an Instant Pot...yet.
Great video! What was the ratio of beans and Mrs. Wages mix?
I didn't measure. I'm bad and just wing it a lot. I should take measurements. But it was about a pound of beans to about 1/2 a package.
I have a stovetop pressure cooker. Mine cannot be water cooled like the old ones!
